I just registered by calling the Spring Valley Pro Shop at (281) 351-8628 and giving them my info and CC#.
Current registration count is at about 15 players so far, but Ryan says that he is getting more calls each day about it.
Get registered folks! (I know, I know, it would be a lot more convenient if it was up on TitleDisc, but it isn't...) Just call the number above and tell 'em you want to register for the tournament. Give them your credit card number and that's it!
The good thing about calling is there is no fee attached. - Please note the LSDGA page is WRONG right now. This event is the 14th not 28th - I'll email Gary tonight :)
Mike has decided to have a free Keg of Beer for after the tournament for everyone, so this is shaping up to be a great day!!!
Chartering trick sandwiches from the woodlands will be available for $5 each as well as plenty of water Gatorade and soft drinks.
Mike added 20 more types of new Disc, Bags, lights, and other miso. Stuff bringing his total inventory to over 100 unique types of items that you can pick from if you cash, or for purchase from the pro shop.
Remember, all you have to do to register is call the pro shop with a credit card there are no fees attached. Also, PLEASE NOTE THAT IF YOU TRY TO SIGN UP THE DAY OF THE EVENT, WE HAVE A VERY EARLY CUT OFF TIME.
Please dont miss out on this rare opportunity to compete on a great private course in a sanctioned event!
One last bump - shaping up to be a nice field. Remember, if you are signing up in the morning you have to be there earlier than a normal LSS event...

In case no one heard, this was Gimps last tournament. He sold to another golfer who is taking over next week.
I know he's have a lot of personal stuff going on, but to go out like that, all I can say is your lucky and I'm glad it was your last event. After the crap you pulled I don't think you would be seeing big crowds at your events anyway.
Just so you know, I get to play 3 maybe 4 events a year. If you advertise 2 rounds and a final nine, and I pay and drive from Austin for 2 rounds and a final nine, then sack up and get it done. I don't want to hear any excuses. Not that you were offering any other than "this is my last event". Which is another way of saying, I don't care, and go away. Your a meaty chud, chocolate dragon eating slug. It was 4 in the afternoon, I don't care that you had too much to drink (which was obvious), lets play the final nine. $60 for a one day event and you cancel the final nine, your a disappointment. A weak, pathetic, chud eating loser of a TD. If you ever run another event, don't expect to see me there. What a way to go out.
Wow - do I even know you? I am sure your mother would be so proud of you right now
Sorry you were disappointed; I thought the event went off well. Mike the owner was kind enough to let us use the facilities and we wanted to get some ball golfers out onto the course. I am sure that you will make it past this, obviously one of, the greatest disappointments in your life.
BTW - two and one half beers is not out of line imo. Now Scott, he may have been out of line :)
I hope some other folks had fun.

:) Great tournament...bad golf :( - my life story :D
It's obvious that Spring Valley earns most of its operating revenue from ball golf. I assumed this was the main reason for axing the final 9. It might have been communicated to the players a bit earlier & posted for all to see before the second round...several of us were looking forward to playing the extra holes. I for one was not aware of the change & still thought I had a chance to catch up. (after tying Matt to the back of a cart & dragging him through the woods for awhile). Of course some of us played 9 more anyway!
Thanks to Mike & staff for all the work they did preparing the course & allowing us to take over the property for the day...Ya think grooming the course, creating & placing signage to clearly allow the players to navigate the 2 courses, marking the 10 meter circle around each pin, and then letting us toss discs around all day helped his bottom line more then doing none of these things and opening as usual for the ball golfers who PAY 2 PLAY?
Thanks gimp for your organizing this tourney.

You were not in the final 9 anyways.
I am the one who should be upset since I was only 4 strokes off of Matt, and open should pay top 1/3 not top 1/2.
I think that is something that should be stated at the players meeting and since I was told it was at 9:30 to 9:45 I wasn't there so I don't know if they stated that or not.

I might but if not there is an event at Moffitt.
Pretty sure that tourney staff did not tell you 9:30 for the players meeting when we were taking reg's through 8:00.
Nice to see zero people having my back after that uncalled for personal attack.
It is ok to have a problem and say something about it. It is NOT ok to be a total a--hole! about it. Karma will come back to bite you in the #$*&$! Kris.

I will take Gimp's back on this one.
To the people that are ripping the TDs, did you not have every opportunity to directly discuss these concerns with Gimp and Nesbitt at the tournament? How about a phone call, e-mail or private message to get your questions answered, did you try that?!?
Coming back and chastising the TDs after the fact on the message board instead of contacting them directly, while making accusations that he had too much to drink, smoke, etc. is about as classless as it gets.
Scores are up: http://www.pdga.com/tournament/tournament_results.php?TournID=6252&year=2006&includeRatings=1#Open
Looks like Kris must be the mouthpiece for someone else on this one. You were not even close to the final 9 if we had one... Yea, I am a REAL big smoker at least get your smack right moron It is a shame to go out with this clown slamming me.
Thank you to everyone who has supported the series over the years. It has been a fun ride!
Be sure to support Rick now that he is taking over. He is planning bigger and better things for all of us! And yes, I am still going to play. Maybe even a little better now lmfao :D
Next LSS event is Moffitt on the 28th. I hope to see you all there! :p

Many thanks Gimp! I've played a lot of your events over the years and only had issues at a few of them! :D
I really liked playing my first outing at Spring Valley. I will be going back again...well after the flood waters subside maybe...but I'll go back in a minute!
I sure hope that Mike continues to allow the "known" disc golfers to use those carts. What a civilized way to play disc golf! He had an outstanding disc selection in the Pro Shop too! I was really surprised to see that.
I will continue to support Rick as he embarks on the new LSS.

Gimp,
Thanks a ton for what you've done for Houston Disc Golf the past few years. I can remember the emails that we used to exchange several years back on the lack of Houston tournaments (minus States of course). Then you stepped up and did something about it. Hats off man. I could always count on your events to be well organized, well attended (even if the pro division was light), and a ton of fun. My wife enjoyed how you ran your events as well (I remember going to one of your tournaments in Port Arthur and still being home by 5:30 pm!!). As far as the Kris guy goes, don't sweat it. He obviously hates his life and is looking to take it out on somebody. Oh, and one other thing, Kris is lucky that Robbie and I were attending a different event out of state otherwise he would have had two more golfers kicking his butt.

Hey, 995 rated golf may not have faired that well at the USDGC but it would have been enough to have taken down Mr. Hartely at Spring Valley by 15 strokes or so... :D
the_kid
Oct 17 2006, 09:55 AM
Yeah this tournament was great IMO and GIMP did announce that there would be no final nine before the 2nd round started. Gimp does run awesome events which is why I have attended pretty much every one over the past few years. The only negative thing I have to say about this event is that the 2nd round ratings seem low because I felt the setup was tougher in the afternoon and figured I played about the same quality golf. Then again for the event my ratings estimate was only three points off so it worked out. :p

Dont take it personal, didnt mean for it to come off that way. The comment about this being your last tourney ticked me off.-bad
Dido alexs comments about the circles and the course looking great!
JD-find something better to do with you time other than pointing out that you had a 995 rated round at USDGC.
Hey everybody did you hear JD had a 9 trillion.who cares! The fact that you figured out that you would have beaten this 920 something rated player by 15 strokes shows you need something more than golf in your life. Get some help, maybe we should start a golfers anonymous hotline or a support group or somethingIll take the first shift.

Man oh man, are you trying to impersonate Jeff Hellman?
Don't take things personally? Every comment you've made here just illustrates what a good sportsman you must be.
Sometimes, and it is just sometimes, the karma you carry on the course is reflected in your game. Your karma must have been sucked out of your carcus before the start of your rounds, and obviously you still haven't found it.

Gimp and Fatboy ---
I've always enjoyed your events, and have supported them the best that I could because I felt that you brought a hugh net positive to the sport.
I've always considered you a good friend, so I'm sad to hear about your retirement from the TD scene. But I hope to still get to play on a card with you sometime in the near-future.
Best of luck, and thanks again for a truck-load of great disc golf memories.

I'm not sure who this ProDonater character is, but GIMP definately runs the best tourneys I've ever played. Best example is Conroe tournements in December and January last year or so. Gimp ran one and someone else ran the other. Gimps was hands down better. Not that the other guys failed, Gimps was just better!
I think the real question is why your even playing PRO. I tied you for the day and I'm in intermediate, and honestly, I played like #$*&$!. OH WAIT, sorry, I forgot your the ProDonater, good job!
I'm glad Gimp is retiring, cause I cant beat him in a tourney if he doesnt play.
