From Fry @ Clay in Katy, go north on Fry 8.3 miles and you'll see a big "Bridgeland" sign on the left. Turn left and the course is one mile on the right.
When you pull into the parking lot, you'll see a pavilion and a wooden bridge to the right of it. The first tee is just across the bridge.

Tournament HQ will be at the pavillion. Parking may be an issue so stay tuned for more info on that as it becomes available.

The tournanment structure is different that what we usually expect, but there will be many perks for the players. And entry fees are very low and include a player's package! Pro entry fees are structured to encourage Advanced players to step up and try their game at the top level if they would like.

The disc golf tournament is in coordination with the Grand Opening of the new Bridgeland community so there will be several things happening at the same time. Ring of Fire, Meet the Champs, a distance demonstration and canine demos will all happen at the Shores Park Model Home area located across the lake from the disc golf course.

Bridgeland has been gracious enough to want to host a disc golf tournament during this very important grand opening event to showcase not only the community, but the new dg course and the sport. Please come, play and help demonstrate what a great game disc golf is.

I wrote to Ben about it still not being listed on TitleDisc...hope he gets it up there soon! :D

No kiddin folks...this course is very good and very challenging. It's good enough that you will want to start considering moving to this community just to be close to this course. I hope we get a good enough turn-out here to get a good WCP value for it.

I'll probably step up to make a donation to the Pro Master division! :D

Hands down though folks...it is my favorite course in Houston. And, this is the first of its kind in Houston. It has been laid out on a fabulous piece of property. Come register for this one and see what all of the buzz around town is all about. Every local I've spoken with thinks this course is the bomb!

Okay - Ben got it up on TitleDisc last night. You can register for this tournament by clicking here! (http://www.titledisc.com/Events/Bridgeland_DGC.php)

Cheap entry fees for Pro divisions...I decided to play up in Masters. :D

I met Lou out at the Oak Meadow course this afternoon and we played a round.

Lou reports that a number of his buddies in Austin are thinking about coming in to check this new course out. If you are one of them, then please pre-register through TitleDisc or by mailing your entry directly to Andi as listed in her post. But I would advise you to get them sent in right away. This is rapidly becoming the most popular course in Houston and I know many locals are wanting to play in this event.

I'm sure Lou will provide a course report when he gets back online again, but in speaking with him after the round, he seemed to really like the course. We both left a handful of strokes out there that we want some revenge for... :D

Thanks for the grand tour, Larry.

The open holes are very long and the water comes into play on a few of them. Crushers will love these. The rough on the wooded holes looked very thick but the fairways were well defined and mowed down. It's a very good course for a tournament. The risk/reward factor should create some good score separations.

The mosquitos were huge and vicious. Everyone that's planning on playing should take plenty of repellant. Carry it with you cause you'll need to reapply during the round too.

Some of the creek crossing are a little wet. Be prepared to walk through 2-3 inches of water.

If we stay dry as expected, that water should be a thing of the past. As we play out there most days without the water, the skeeters, well, they are an ongoing issue. We recommend the 100% deet as the best bet.

We hope to see lots of out of town folks here that weekend as we have two one day events on sweet courses. (considered some of the best these days!)

The mosquitoes are a non issue when it is dry out there. They can be quite intense after a big rain that leaves standing water, but once they've run their cycle and it stays dry, they are virtually non-existent. We'll post mosquitoe reports as the weekend draws near. It will all depend on the amount of rain we receive between now and then and when. This weeks entire forcast is unseasonably hot and dry.

We're working on a plan if there is any water in the swail along hole #6 on the day of the tournament.

Best case sceniero: dry weather, no mosquitoes and no water...

Glad you enjoyed your Houston golf experience at Oak Meadow Lou!

What is with the $27 entry fee for open?

Do you have like $500 added or something?

I don't have the definitive answer, andi, gimp or nez will, but my understanding is that the developer is sponsoring the tournament. Andi has made it clear that the developer really cares about the success of this course and a donation to this event makes sense.

Even wet and mosquito plauged, this course is a must play for Houston. That said, if it rains don't leave the deet in the car, you'll regret it. I saw Larry and Lou and as bad as the mosquitos were, it was still pretty good compared to what you can see out there. They only had the small variety yesterday. There's a big one that comes out in the second cycle. We refer to them as blood sucking humming birds. It's worth the trip just to see them and to be able to brag about playing a round with them.

LOL

Michael does have a point, and we all know that Texans are in the habit of larger than life storytelling.

Compared to West Guth in CC, this course is a cakewalk when comparing annoying bugs and such. I hope that some of the above comments don't discourage folks from coming out. Do remember that we might see a bit of cooler weather as we move into the fall months, and that slows those critters down a bit. LOL

Personally I have played out there more than a handful of times and only experienced really bad bugs on one outing. And that was still nothing in comparision to Corpus Christi or Port Arthur.

A course that must be played! You might even forget you're in Houston!

All this whining about a few skeeters!

When I was a kid the skeeters would pick up your discs and drop them in the basket for you, you needed stitches to close the bites, you needed to turn on the windshield wipers to drive down to the bayou... and we liked it!

Having grown up in skeeter alley (Houston) I am more likely to become unnerved by snakes (especially when you step on them!)

When comparing the long term effect, chigger bites are still more annoying and stick around long after that little skeeter bite is history. Or how about those pesky ticks? One of the gifts we got playing the Mohawk courses at Worlds.

And Michael, didn't you grow up in some place like MIchigan? /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif LOL

Anyone who doesn't come 'cause of skeeters... well, they're just a chickin' and its their loss. Now the cotton mouth I saw down there last weekend, that's a differn't story. Nigh onto 4 foot long and it was eatin' a small deer. Then this big ol' gator comes out'n the pond bites that snake in half. Too bad I left my camera in my car.

Course I don' believe them stories about all the beautiful egrets and cormorants that live on the ponds there, or the stories about the concrete tee pads and the well groomed fairways. Tha's make believe.

Come out for a great weekend of golf in Houston!!!!

Oct 03 2006, 01:05 AM
ROTFLMAO! Last weekend was the first time I've even seen a mosquito out there since before the tee pads went in! On a 1:10 scale, they were probably about a 2 maybe a 3.

Crossing the ditch without getting your toes wet on #6 was tricky but doable...but crossing over the spillway brick road-way wasn't possible without getting your toes wet.

Seems like every time I go out there, I find another new improvement to the park. Bathrooms aren't quite done yet, but they will be very soon.

The only real problem area I see is the basket area for hole #6 is a swamp for a week after a rain. Andi told me that dirt is supposed to be dumped around it, but that probably won't fix the problem unless a mound gets built around it and the basket raised accordingly. In the meantime, I can live with one swampy hole out of 18! :D

This is the sweetest course we have in Houston! If we could only get another 18 hole course installed there, we'd probably consider moving Texas States out there!

With this tourney following the Spring Valley gig which is on Saturday, it should be a great weekend for some good disc golf in H-town. Bring your "A" game or bring your bandaids and Neosporin! :D

Matt,

have you played it yet? Just curious.

I agree with Larry, with a second similar course we could consider a TS out there. I definitely think the location would help with the draw. On that note, have you ever walked along the pond beyone #8 blue? There is a lot of territory over there....

I played the course today with a couple of old time HFDS members - Ed Morgan and Jim Hudson and had a blast!

Hud dropped a 55 from the slabs on the first round but blew up big on the second round from the blues. (We both lost drives on #8 crossing the water!)

The course is in good shape and all of the tee signs have been installed on the White (intermediate) tees. There are few benches and trashcans on the walking trail, but none are close to a tee box!

There was water in the ditch between #6 and #12 fairways and water still surrounding the #6 basket. :(

If the weather next weekend is anything close to today's weather, it will be perfect disc golfing conditions.

Come on out for this one folks...this is turning into the best course in Houston.

Well...we could've had better weather. :(

65 players braved the crappy weather to turn out for the Grand Opening tournament for Oak Meadows.

Alex Hughes won the Open division with 109 throws over Matt Hall with 115 throws, and Robby Hendrick with 117 throws.

Yours truly took Masters with 134 throws over Mr Ed Morgan at 136 throws! Holy cow! Can you believe it??? I couldn't...I declined the cash but kept the trophy! :D

Local Danny Berry took MM1, Eric Soete won advanced, co-course designer Don Young won Intermediate and Cody Smith won Recreational.

In the Women's advanced field, Bridget McDonald won top honors with local Susan Macaluso taking 2nd place.

Great course, good time, crappy weather pretty much summed up the day!

Many many thanks go out to all of the locals that supported this inaugural event on Houston's newest (and probably best) course!

I dunno Tony...we might have to agree to disagree about that one.

At Oak Meadow, the distance (from the Blue tees) is similar, there are more terrain features to work with, water hazards are lakes versus ponds and during an early morning round, you can hear birds and occasionally see a deer instead of just hearing the roar of traffic from 288! :D The tighter fairways will improve my game a ton.

Oak Meadow will never be the facility for hosting something like Texas States that Bass will be though...but if they ever put another 18 in up there, then it'll be in contention!

And at Oak Meadow, righties never have to throw a true anhyzer.

Not to say the holes are bad (only #4 is a bad hole IMO), but there is ZERO balance of left and right holes. It's a collection of good holes that when they're put together hurt the overall design of the course.

It's an OK course on a great piece of property.
