2006 Rookie is based on the whole 2006 performance which isn't over yet. It's just that any player who turned pro right before Am Worlds is included for potential ROY this year and they missed out on up to 6 months of events while playing as an Am earlier this year.

The best time to turn pro is anywhere from right after Am Worlds until the first event you play in the next year so you get a whole year of events if you think you have a shot at ROY.

The more I look at it the tighter I think it will be. Kim has cashed in all of his events and Adam has missed two I think and I believe Kim has made more $$$ per event then Adam. Also a 1008 rating helpa. I guess the one thing Adam definantly has on Kim besides the A-tier is that he has beaten me this year. :D
adogg187420
Sep 27 2006, 09:17 PM
I might be a little tighter than I first thought, but in all of Kim's wins, he only played against a handful of players 970 or higher, and none higher than 992. Adam plays against tough fields every weekend. I think the A-tier win locks it up for sure, and he also won the 22nd Waterloo Open a couple weeks ago against a field including Yeti and Heeren.
MTL21676
Sep 27 2006, 09:35 PM
However, AO lost to me here (http://www.pdga.com/tournament/tournament_results.php?TournID=5601&year=2006&include_ratings=1#Open) and here (http://www.pdga.com/tournament/tournament_results.php?TournID=5550&year=2006&include_ratings=1#Open)
That could significantly hurt his chances

which is why we have a rating system!
I've been at some of the tournaments Kim has won, and while the fields are definitely lacking, that just meant that hes crushed them and walked away with a very easy win. Clearly his level of play is still the same regardless of whether its a C tier, or a NT.

In the latest World Rankings to be posted hopefully by tomorrow: KSW 54th and AO 98th. USDGC and December ratings updates will determine the final yearend rankings. In addition to how they do at the upcoming USDGC, AO will be penalized in the rankings because he didn't play Pro Worlds. So he'll probably have to make up for that by passing KSW in the December ratings to get closer in the final rankings.

Even though Geoff has done very well this year there is no way he can compete with Adam after his win at the Telemark Open...........At this point I think its between AO and Kim Scott-Wood for 2006 ROY and if AO beats or places close to Kim Scott this week he will win with no problem!!!

Geoff currently holding strong at 20th... He's a player that I've noticed play better and better at a course as he learns the lines, I wouldn't be surprised to see him shoot better than that -4 as this tournament rolls on... You never know, lots of wild factors... but if you look at it if not for a ridiculous and uncharacteristic 5 on hole 3 (which I believe half the field seems to get a 2 on) he would have been at that -4 in round one as well...
So KSW might still be ahead, but Geoff is making it interesting :)

By a one and then a two stroke margin...I don't think that'll be enough to bump Bennett past KSW for ROY. Kim has played well at enough big tournaments to have earned the honours!

I've heard tell of him putting it under the basket on holes 580 feet away... And I've witnessed him throw a low line drive/basket high golf shot on a 410+ foot hole without effort... So I'm prone to believing it.

I'm wondering if there is a current set of criteria to qualify for the rookie of the year.
Well Kent, maybe it's different for the men than it is the women, but if last year sets any precedent, here's how it's going to go- the top 4 money earners will be nominated, and the criteria will be announced based on the stats of those 4 candidates. Then, a fifth candidate mysteriously appears on the ballot- the 8th or 9th money earner, who happens to be married to a member of the BoD. And SURPRISE! That person will win. But like I said, maybe it's different for the men. Maybe for the men the criteria and the nominations are based on merit, rather than arbitrary favoritism. I dunno.
My advice to any aspiring Rookies out there is not to bother busting your butt, foolishly thinking that earning a Touring Player Card will boost your chances for the Obelisk. Stats obviously play no part in this achievement award.
