For the last year when I reached for a disc to thumber I grabbed a 168gm champion monster. I understand we all have our own choices when it comes to disc selection. This disc gave me atleast 97% predictability in where it was going as a thumber regardless of wind. I am not sure if it was the weight or if it was beat in so well it did what I wanted. Unfortunately, I lost this disc last week and am trying to replace it. I have better than average booming power when it comes to thumbers. I always loved how fast the disc flipped back and forth. Two part question... does anyone know where to get a 168 champ monster (everyone I have found online starts at 170gm (anyone have one to sell?)) and what does everyone else throw with the most predictability?

Obviously, the best thumber disc is the one you feel most comfortable throwing. I throw a bunch of thumbers depending on the course and I have always loved firebirds for a thumber disc, for predictability, behavior in the wind, and for distance...It seems to be the most popular for people who throw thumbers a lot, so definitely worth giving it a try before you switch back to monsters (although I doubt you will! :)) Some people mix up pro and champion firebirds for thumbers to cover more situations. Maybe Schweb will post on this, he's the man when it comes to thumbers...

KC or Champion Banshee. Farthest thumber disc for me.

Champion Banshee great for accurate medium-long ones. Champion Firebird great for pretty accurate very long ones. STAR Max great for wide-open very very very long ones.

just get a 170 monster, the 168 g. that you had probly weighed 170 anyways. throw what your used to.
The max only comes in max weight but might be worth a try cause it feels just like a monster.

The Star Max I got is 172, but Mark at discgolfvalues said that was the lightest that they had. It basically seems to fly like a cross between a Firebird and a Monster, but longer them both. I found this true for backhand and thumbers both.

Infin, Definitely stick with what you are confident with. I Throw most of my Thumbers with Champion Firebirds.(max weight) I would suggest Trying a 170 gram ar even higher, a couple grams will not make that much difference, but do not go Max weight unless you want to.
I am lloking forward to trying out this Max disc hopefully I will be geTTing mine inda mail soon.

For sheer reliability I don't think anything can beat a max-weight champ eagle. I have a pair of them that I can place on just about any shot within 240 feet, and I've had more than one person ask me why I don't use the shot on every semi-open 250 or less shot... and if not for issues with my elbow I would.
SUPER reliable line. 175g Champ Eagle.

For short to medium distances, I throw a heavy S-Demon. And if I need a little more distance I will grab either a heavy E-Blaze or E-Hybrid. All three of these discs are very comfortable thumber discs to me.

Really like Z-Flicks (~165g) for thumbers!

I haven't found a better thumber disc than the Pro-D Venom. Unfortunately, they take a pounding and need to be replaced fairly often.

My thoughts exactly. I switched to a Z Pred sometime ago and that seemmed to do the trick, but I really had to huck it.
I have sinced switched to a Tsunami and am getting a lot more glide/distance out of it than the Pred.

Use a Z Xtreme for <300, Z Pred or a Z Flick for >300

I always found the Z Flick to have a strange flight path with thumbers. It would go straight for a longer time than most other discs would, and then take a very quick turn and drop. Much more up-and-down than the other discs I have used.
I used to throw ~165g Champion Eagles for thumbers, but have been using a heavier CE Firebird FL for a while now. I was throwing longer with the Eagle, but I'm more accurate with the FL. Heavier discs feel better on my arm also.
