Matt, for the rest of the disc throwing world, we head to Moody's for our friends, the celebration and a bit of golf thrown in. Given the fact that you are still a minor, maybe you should look elsewhere for a better payout. That will be one spot available for some of us old folks, who just love the Moody experience.

I understand Mitch took this on kinda last minute and I wish the best for him on this tourney.

What I don't understand is why such a high entry fee? There are no ammenities, there is no free food, maybe 1 keg of beer if were lucky,no music unless somebody turns up their jam box,no games to play while you get drunk unless you play night golf. From what I've seen in the past, is a bunch of people in clicks, drinking and talking chit on other people! I'm not paying $70.00 for that experience!

I'm not bashing on Mitch, it's not his fault that he loves that course so much that he couldn't bear to see Octoberfest dissapate into the wind. (not being sarcastic)
I just wish he woulda dropped the fees down a bit.

2003 Entry Form (http://www.pdga.com/msgboard/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=111558&page=&view=&sb=5&o=&fpart=1&vc=1)

This year's entry is exactly the same as last year, and if you check it out, you'll see it's pretty much been the same since 2003 (not bad since the overall expense of EVERYTHING has increased since then).

I found this post while looking back.......

<font color="blue">Told you not to get all up in a hype Mark, just wanna see you get in more cool tourneys and remember why your in this sport to have some FUN!!
just seems since the short time I've known you your all about making a living off the sport (which is all well and good if you can) instead of having FUN with it.
</font>

It seems as though the tables have turned for this person.

Besides....if the entry was lower, the payout would be too...you can't have it both ways.

Just because things haven't been announced, doesn't mean there aren't more things in the works.

Oktoberfest will be as fun as ever this year....Dave, you're gonna have to call in sick and PLAY! oh...I hope your boss doesn't read this board

:D

Sep 22 2006, 03:21 PM

You can't play any B-tier for less than $50 so what is the difference between $50 and $70 except the fact that the pay out will be higher with the $70 entry fee.

Fair enough Patty, I'll pay the $150 for K-T and I to go and play. I just hope you guys realize that in the PAST this tourney has proven to be a subpar event! It says OctoberFEST but has not been treated as such! I guess if it proves to be the same or worse than any other year then I will not attend another Octoberfest. DG in this area quite honestly SUCKS! TD's say this will be better than last years, or we have a lot planned for this year, or we've got all this added money, and then you go and play the event and it is bland; no extra money like people boasted about, no extras for your fees, no trophies except if you go to Outlaws, not really any structure, paint and flags going in all over the place. Does anybody really know what a players package is for? Now adays it's considered part of payout? Now TD's think they are doing something because a players package isn't costing the players? The **** things are supposed to be free, that's what you get for entering the tournament. It's not about the payout for me, I've been getting my ***** handed to me longer than most of the tourney players around here have been playing! It's about having some flavor in these events that make it worth it to me. Your right you can't have it both ways, but that looks like what is going on with this event.

Sep 22 2006, 03:38 PM
The players package comming out of the entry fees is thanks to the PDGA a few years ago. Don't blame the TD's for following the PDGA guidlines. Blame TD's like me that take the players package out of the sponsorship money. I don't like the fact that the PDGA forces TD's to give a players package.

Sorry, this really should be discussed inthe PDGA section. Waterloo will run a good tournament. Q cooks GREAT food. The atmosfear of the tournament is what you make of it.

Tru Dat! Sanctioned events are for the competitive players. It's tournament golf, not a disc golf social service. These forced players packs full with mostly worthless items (coupons, pro/dx plastic no one ever uses, etc...) have got to go. I want to play for a larger purse...especially now that the PDGA has flat payout scales.

mitchjustice
Sep 22 2006, 07:51 PM
There is a $10 "Greens Fee" included in all entry amounts...so the MPO entry is $60 (not $70)...as far as the players pack for Ams that is required, let me quote myself from this thread...

"$25 Players Pack(including a $10 voucher to the pro shop)...with $0 taken out of payout"

so for a $40 MA1 entry the payout will be on $37($3 goes to the PDGA)...and with a $10 voucher to the proshop that all ams will receive, the total am payout will be $47 per $40 entry

The MPO entry is $60($3 of which goes to the PDGA)...there is $250 added cash(so far)...which using last years pro turnout(22)is adding over $11 per entry...or a payout of $68 per entry...last year the payout was $66 per entry

I am looking for more sponsors to make these numbers larger...and with the club focused on The 29th Waterloo and fundraising efforts for that event(of which I am helping with as well)I could use anyones help that has the time...I do have a few in the works

and if you feel Moody ran sub-par events in the past, then maybe you should think about doing something else that weekend anyway...and leave the "fun" to the real pros

disctance00
Sep 23 2006, 01:34 PM
As far as Moody's events go YES here the last few HAVE been subpar!! I'm NOT the only one that feels that way, just last night I had people agree with me on that specific issue! Either play or don't play, it's that easy.

It is sad to see someone express their opinion with such nastiness and lack of gratitude for those making sure this event even happens this year.

Must be your game's in the crapper, and all this hate is your way to let the world know you're just a miserable person. I hope that things improve in your world.

This event is going to be about fun and taking care of the players

$250 added to the Pro payout(sponsored by Waterloo)

$25 Players Pack(including a $10 voucher to the pro shop)...with $0 taken out of payout

Pick your own payout for Am's

While the player's pack part of this could be read either way, I believe it means that only the ams are getting player's packs. The pros are getting cash added to their purse.

While I bet that pros like player's packs, if it comes to the choice of a pack or added cash, most seem to prefer the added cash.

As far as the am packs go, this is mandated by the pdga. IF there is enough sponsorship cash to cover the cost of buying stuff for these packs (and that can be a very big IF when the pack includes a tournament disc, especially a good one), then it doesn't have to be taken out of the entry fee / payout. If there is not enough sponsorship cash, then the entry fee / payout is where it has to come from.

Also, sponsorship cash has to cover a lot of tournament expenses too, not just player pack stuff. Good tournaments aren't cheap to hold.

I know that Mitch is going to run a GREAT OKTOBERFEST. He is already working his butt off to make it a really fun and rewarding tournament for everyone.

Thanks for the insult!!! I give him more ******* in one day than you probably have gotten in the last 5 years, but I guess this means that I will not be welcome at Lago either...

You know, at least Jeff has the guts to say how he feels about something to the people that can make a difference, and not behind their backs like most golfers. Trust me, he isn't the only one that feels that way, he just apparently is the only one that can say it on a "discussion" board, where something can be done about it whether he gets bashed or not. Props to him for speaking his mind, and not complaining to others, or after the event, or where it really doesn't matter. Props to him for speaking his mind to try and get things to change. You might not always agree with what he has to say, but guess what? That's okay, everyone is entitled to their opinion, no matter how different it is. It's not right or wrong. it's just an opinion. Jeff has lived many places and been involved in many clubs. He's used to clubs that take care of their members, their players, their courses, and their events. They make it worth it to come out and play their event. For the most part, Texas is not like that. All he is trying to do is give his input into making the Texas scene better. Is he so wrong for that? Just because we are together doesn't mean that we will always on agree with things, but guess what? He has his opinions and I have mine. He doesn't play certain courses because he doesn't like them, but that doesn't mean I can't play them. And vice versa. We don't always have the same opinions when it comes to disc golf, but that's okay.

suemac
Sep 27 2006, 05:55 PM
KT, giving opinions about payout, players packs and such is NOT the problem. He should keep his comments along those lines, as I know there are insulting things that we can say about each and every one of us. But that isn't constructive or respectful. In order to get respect you've got to give it first, and on that level, he flunks in my book, plain and simple.

Your friend, the tent hopper.

Events should fill.....I just hope its a pro/am event and not an am only event.
Something we T.D.'s need to start doing is limiting the divisions.

20 all advance spots
20 int
30 all pro spots
20 misc. divisions
or run division only events

Oktoberfest this weekend out at Dave Moodys ranch in Red Rock (just east of Austin) still has just a very few spots available. Also, we could use just one or two more people to help staff. If you are interested in playing or staffing, call Mitch on his cell phone: 830-392-6060. The full tournament info and flyer can be found at the clubs website: www.austindiscgolf.org (http://www.austindiscgolf.org) or further up on this thread.

OK.....MJ should have scores up by tonight...tomorrow morning at the latest so just take a deep breath, remember the situation, and be thankful there was an Oktoberfest at all.

I don't think that's really his rating. Look at the ratings for the Corpus Christi Open (http://www.pdga.com/tournament/tournament_results.php?TournID=6094&year=2006&include_ratings=1#Recreational) . All of the recs outplayed the MA2s if those are correct. It probably needs a 2nd layout to show they played from different tees if that's the case.
