I recently got a 2003 One Disc Challenge disc by Discraft. Does anyone know what this disc is or if it was put into production? It doesn't look like any of the discs that I know.

Ray-
I think this years disc is a retooled MRV named the Torq if I'm not mistaken. Check the Ask Keith thread for more info...
The 03 was definately a breeze.

Kozak,
You and DSpro will have to work out some type of avatar-sharing program. I see his avatar, your name, head spins, insults get sent to the wrong player.....

Disc is very flippy. Although i aced with it. I would not see it going in the bag
BTw. Most of the people in my group agreed that the powder blue disc with the multi - colored stamp was more stable then the others.

I don't think that the disc is a breeze. The breeze has a blunt type nose, and this one comes down to more of a point.
The front of the disc says One Disc Challenge (as is not Ace Race). The date on the back is 4/30/03 with "Discraft One Disc Challenge Prototype Mid-Range). The disc is yellow and weighs 176g.

2002 was a buzzz
2003 was a glide
2004 was a breeze
2005 was a banger gt or slipstream-gt, depending on when in the year the ace race was

I thought you meant ace race disc. Ace race and 1-disc challenge is not the same. The 2003 One Disc CHallenge disc was a prototype, distributed to Ann Arbor Area members to play a whole round with only that disc. It is similar to a glide or squall, but the actual mold never made it into production. I would guess it got retooled into either the glide or squall. Other 1-disc challenge prototypes from the past few years include the avenger, predator, cryztal 150 XS, and ultra grip Z surge.

Thank you for helping out. I guess I won't try throwing it too much since it didn't make production, but I am glad to know what it is.

Very true. But few One Disc Challenge discs made it into production without a retool.
2002- Predator (proto)
2003- Glide/Squall (proto)
2004- Cryztal 150 XS
2005- X Avenger (possibly a proto, I don't know if it got retooled before production)
2006- Ultra Grip Z Surge
played 2006 ace race in springfield, il.
disc is an understable pig.
if you had to ask me - i would say a challenger/buzz hybrid.
imagine a buzz being re-tooled on the rim with a challenger mold compressed.
useful for weaker arms or uphill shots
i can see some ppl using this to putt from 100feet

2003 Ace disc WAS the Breeze. I have a stack of them. 2004 was the Glide, 2005 was the Slip stream...I have all of them.

Agreed. It has plenty of stability if thrown correctly. I threw one pin high on hole #14 at The Vet....423 feet.

You must be one of the "weaker" arms the disc would be good for. ;)

What is the timeline from ace race to production of the previous years?
Also, do these come PDGA approved or would it be illegal to throw in a tourny?
my_hero
Sep 09 2006, 09:54 PM
It usually takes a month or two before it's submitted to the PDGA for testing. So far all of the previous years ace race discs have been approved and are PDGA legal.
You can use it in mini's, but i'd stay away from using it at a PDGA function until you hear from the PDGA or Discraft that it's been approved. It won't be long.

So does that mean that once a proto disc becomes approved that the original proto is also approved? Ie, if this years one disc ace race disc goes into production as a "Discraft Elephant" would the actual disc used at the ace race become legal?

Many players are still using the original Glide Ace Race disc. Some have compared this new one to a Roc.

Funny you would say that as I do carry an original "proto" Glide. I find it is more predictably understable than the Z-Glide. Fantastic disc.
On a seperate note, I am glad Discraft went back to a mid for this year's Ace Race. The GT from last year was a bit tough on aces. Maybe this year will prove different. :D

Reports indicate that this one is much more predictable than last years.
