keeping this thread open.... news from the
CDGC...

News Flash !!! The Charlotte Open , Oct 7&8, will have an added perk this year. There will be a spot up for grabs to the US Disc Golf Championships in Rock Hill, the week following the Charlotte Open. The player posting the best score at Hornet's Nest ,(the best score of a player who has not qualified for the USDGC), will be awarded that spot in the Championship. The player will need to make a commitment at the awards ceremony or the spot will go to the player who posted the next best score. This perk does not include entree fee to the Championship, just a spot in the Championship. NOTE : The field at Hornet's Nest is limited to 72 players. Sign up now or you may get left out. There are a lot of Am's here who are going to play at the Nest just to get a crack at the Championship. Pro's, you need to sign up soon to make sure you get to play. Check out our website at http://charlottedgc.com/
Hope to see you on the course, your friend, Stan

I emailed their ringleader from last year, Hans Tegeback, and he said that some of them are coming into town very late Friday night, and others of them are coming over the weekend. He said something about many of them running out of vacation time. Seems like Europeans get boatloads of vacation time but even so, you can never have enough vacation time to spend!

Pass the word about a spot into the USDGC up for grabs at the Charlotte Open this year. This is a CDGC Sponsors Exemption spot. Most all the best players will be qualified, so come and play and perhaps you will get that spot. That way you won't have to worry about Monday qualifying. Good luck !!

Just a reminder that we are limiting the field at Hornet's Nest to 72 players. That will include all pro divisions. So, if you know someone who wants to try to get that spot into the USDGC, tell them to preregister as soon as possible. We are about half filled up at Hornet's Nest at this time. Also, CDGC got 7 tee pads poured yesterday on the par 70 long layout, "Charlotte's Web".That layout will be played during doubles on Friday.

For those who are planning on playing our Friday Doubles on October the 6th, here are some stats on our new par 70 layout at Hornet's Nest called Charlotte's Web, or "The Web". We will not be playing this layout during the Charlotte Open on October the 7th and 8th., just the original layout. I measured with a 300' tape to calculate the overall length of Charlotte's Web and it totals 9,242'. About 4900' on the front and 4300' on the back. It plays something like this ; 1-546' , 2-688' , 3-710' , 4-554' , 5-580' , 6-410' , 7-578' , 8-598' , 9-253' , 10-486' , 11-507' , 12-638' , 13-622' , 14-239' , 15-320' , 16-712' , 17-582' , 18-219'.

Wit - As of right now, there are 53 Pro's signed up ( The Pre-Registration List (http://www.pdga.com/tournament/tournament_results.php?TournID=5527#Open) was just updated 5 minutes ago). We are capped at 72, so there are 19 spots still available.

There are 46 registered out of 90 for Amateurs, so 44 spots remain at Reedy Creek.

Chances are very good that the event will fill and several procrastinators will be left out of the fun.

I already had it X-rayed at the hospital. They suspect that a line they saw on my lower leg bone might be a fracture. That is why I have to see the specialist tomorrow. I am really hoping he says it is not a fracture, but if it is I am mentally prepared for the worst.

If you think that you may have broken your ankle, don't wait until Fri. to get an x-ray. If it is broken, they won't just reduce (set) it, they'll have to rebrake it, then reduce it.

I already had it X-rayed at the hospital. They suspect that a line they saw on my lower leg bone might be a fracture. That is why I have to see the specialist tomorrow. I am really hoping he says it is not a fracture, but if it is I am mentally prepared for the worst.

Does anyone know if the TD checks his email regularly?

Bummer.....and ouch! How did you break it? End of tee pad, hole in ground, kicking ground in frustration (I need to stop doing that!), jumping over an obstacle?

Your $90 refund was mailed yesterday, FYI.

Thanks for the refund.

As to how I actually broke it is quite comical I guess, my buddy laughed really hard until he saw me not get up right away.

We were throwing distance shots, warming up, in a grass field. I was attempting my 5th throw from this spot, so there was nothing apparently questionable about the footing. As I planted my right foot and started to pull through my chest my right foot slipped. The momentum turned me around and took my legs out from under me. I basically did a horizontal flip and came down onto the side of my left foot. I heard two very loud pops as I collasped on top of my leg. My buddy was laughing at this point because basically I shanked a distance shot 300ft with extreme hyzer. Then he saw I was hurt. At the time I was in such extreme pain, my initial thoughts were that I dislocated either my ankle or knee since I heard the second pop near the knee area (hindsight dictates it was resonance). My buddy then stops laughing and realizes I was hurt when I ripped the grass out of the ground, he then says the worst thing you could say with "don't get up". I thought it confirmed my worst fear, but thankfully that was not true.

So while all you guys are out having fun playing the Nest, I will be stuck in my 4th story apartment (w/o elevator).

Have a blast guys, I already miss this game.

I had the last WEB basket (that was not installed yet) powder coated WHITE, like the other exclusive Web baskets. I went to attach it to the pole I dug in and concreted in this past week,,,,and guess what??? The pole was too big....., the chain assembly and basket would not fit over the pole. Dang it. I used the wrong pole for the hardware that I had. So, I called on the #2 Mule (Sam Nicholson) and THE Burro (Bill Jacobsen) to help me make right my wrong. The correct pole is now in the ground and the hardware will be installed tomorrow. Doubles on Friday the 6th at 4 p.m. Random seeded doubles. Should be fun to do doubles on the Web.
