More than 365 days older than the date of your most recently rated round. It's different for everyone based on the date of their most recently rated round. If you don't play a new rated round, no old rounds ever drop and your rating remains the same.

This is the official 2006 yearend update that includes all rateable events in 2006 (yes, we finally got all of them :)) thru the end of December and no events in January. We have 51 events in this update but I'm not sure how many players will get updates, maybe 1500-2000 (51 events times 30-40 players who didn't have a rated round in an earlier event in the update)?

You'll know in less than 6 hours.

I will wager on 983. I bet you went up 3 points. Tupelo 2005 drops off and is replaced by Tupelo 2006. You shot almost identical ratings in both, but 2006 will be double weighted.

Since September, the remaining small boost factor that had finally dropped to just about 1 point, that was in place to offset the change from dropping 15% to now about 2%, has now gone. The doubling of your most recent 25% of your rounds is still in place and no changes in the individual rating calc are expected this year.

MTL21676
Jan 29 2007, 03:29 PM
question

One of my 8 recent rounds was thrown out.

Does this mean that the 4th round of the tournament before is double weighted or only 7 of mine are double weighted?

ck34
Jan 29 2007, 03:38 PM
It's my understanding that Roger determines which of your rounds will be doubled before doing the calculation that drops low rounds. If one of your rounds to be doubled ends being dropped, another round does not replace it to be doubled.

If anything, we would maybe raise it to a level like 1100 which would be virtually impossible for anyone with even 2 rounds to achieve in a ratings update. I don't think it's a ratings group decision as much as a request you make to the PDGA Board via sending a note to the staff at PDGA HQ.

If we were told exactly where that EXTRA money went, It would be fine by me....I haven't renewed yet this year...neither has my brother....I love the IDEA of the PDGA, I just dont understand where all the $ goes....The Td's and players a taxed per player for every PDGA event...and on top of that you pay 75$ for a magazine(i dont want) and a player rating...I mean cmon...Is it really harder to produce those then it was last year....ps...not a hater...I would just like to know....

ck34
Jan 30 2007, 06:49 PM
We always have a yearend final ratings that includes the few events after Thanksgiving and all of the reports from earlier in 2006 that were tardy. It's a small update that only includes 51 events compared with close to 200 in some of the others. No events in 2007 are included. These ratings show your final number for 2006.

I'm not Chuck, but I do know the answer. The January update is solely for those events that were left out of the December update, so it truly gives you your year-end 2006 rating. The December update deadline was Dec. 4th I believe, so any events that occurred after that deadline (or TDs who didn't get there stuff in until after that) will go in and close out the 2006 ratings.

Hope that helps.

Interesting...while I like the ratings for a general idea of a players skill over a perio of time, I'm perplexed that my rating has gone up 4 points (my highest).
In the 21 tourney rounds I've played since World's, I've averaged a rating of 934...a full 50 points lower then my new rating and exactly the average of my last 28 rounds when including the 7 rounds at Augusta.
Does this seem correct? Are all my 930 & 940 rounds not factored in? Perhaps my calculations are incorrect?

ck34
Feb 06 2007, 03:07 PM
If this is really Alex Hughes posting, only 4 of your 39 rounds in your rating are under 952 (with the 890 being thrown out) and your most recent 10 rounds are double weighted, which includes 4 over 1000.

The TD report showed a 9 and 18 hole layout separately instead of combining them into 27. So the ratings are based on a gruesome 18-hole course with an SSA over 82 where each throw is worth less than 3 pts!! We'll get that fixed to 27 holes. Thanks.

As the sport of disc golf grows, maybe we should change the rating system to accomodate the skill increase. What is the rating of an advanced player, 915 to 950 or something like that, maybe it should be some where closer to 935 to 975? Are there any changes in the future to the rating system?

ck34
Mar 03 2007, 09:06 PM
We're discussing whether to or how to insert another level above Advanced potentially called Expert. There's no question that there is a problem with 915 to 1000 currently being too wide of a ratings range.

Why don't you just start handicapping AMS and let them compete by giving or taking strokes?

ck34

There's already a place to do that: www.discgolfunited.com (http://www.discgolfunited.com)

If we went handicapping, we would do it for everyone and have one big division. All of those new players with improving games would love winning events like the Memorial with $2000 in prizes while Ken and Barry end up with a few hundy trying to beat their negative handicaps to finish 10th or lower. (whoops, better put a smiley :))

Mar 05 2007, 11:08 AM
If we do it at all, my preference would be to switch to our color divisions and scrap our names that are connected with am divisions. But if that's too radical, Expert would work for the time being. Pros would just be experts who actually make a living at the sport, not that we have too many of those yet.

Colors would be good because it is hard to think of three or four words less than Recreational to name the divisions for amateur women and junior players. Numbers would work too. A lot of people already use Am 1, 2 and 3. Add 0, 4 and 5 and you're there.

If it happens, it will be announced as a proposal sometime after the April Summit meeting. The idea is to hash out a variety of ideas in the Competition Committee, present them to the Board at the Summit with recommendations and let members know soon afterwards so they can comment over the following months. Any items that need to be further reviewed or tweaked would be presented for final Board approval in the September Summit. Some proposals might be put in action during 2008 and some are being discussed for 2009.
