We finally got our DVD! And I've decided that the 2007 DVD needs to include an expose on the Schwebby cough. :D

If I come and volunteer, does Mitch still have to pay $1000 for me to camp with him? Since moving it up a week, it's no longer right when classes start, and I'm thinking of travelling with Mitch and helping out the tournament however I can.

Jan 04 2007, 12:51 PM
Players and volunteers can camp at Pyramids. We would love to have ya! And Mitch will probably need some help with his mental game due to those quadruplets.

12 folks signed up so far (I think). It looks like the Pro GMs are going to sell out first this year!

Settle down Francis. Everyone that registers can get their money back (less a 5% processing fee :D) until July 15th. That is when we order the coolest shirts in town.

Tell all your pre-qualified friends to register before March 1st or their reserved spot is lost. In mid February, we will start contacting any of these folks that have not yet registered, so the more of them that register, the less work we have to do.

you seem desperate to get in. Why not talk to the people who RUN the events out there and get THEM to contact the MSDGC folks about qualifying. I think you should probably look to a big event liek the Minnesota Majestic which is a little closer, but still a haul. Or you could come for the 5 spots qualifier, which I think may actually be a few more than 5 spots this year.

Well worth the trip even if you don't get in.

Steve, I will likely be one of the top few of the 5-spots (I know what I'm doing April 1st), but I also might have a HUGE professional obligation (opportunity) the weekend of MSDGC). If I get on the 5-spots, can I still withdraw (whether or not I get picked ot make the tourney)? And when can I?

I obviously don't want to miss the tourney, but should I have to, it would be for an extremely greater good...

My votes: <ul type="square"> Lost Sailor India Pale Ale. An English IPA, this is their flagship beer and an excellent session beer. It's got a relatively low alcohol content (5.5% ABV) and high hops character. The beer for when you're having more than one.
Imperial Stout. A Russian Imperial Stout, 8.5% ABV. This is one of the most drinkable Imperial Stouts out there.
Raspberry Strong Ale. An American Strong Ale, this beer clocks in at 9.0% ABV. The raspberry taste is not overpowing as in some other fruit beers. [/list]

Hello Race Fans!

(That was the best Steve Dodge impression you'll never hear.)

Any of you fans of the MSDGC who live in areas served by community or public access TV should give me a shout if you're interested in bringing the MSDGC and Disc Golf Live video magazine to your station for broadcast.

The current episode includes some MSDGC bits, along with some Am Nats and USDGC material. The shows are free to broadcast partners, and its easy to make up a tape to bring to the station. There are a bunch of stations across the country (and huge numbers in the North East region) and most are friendly and eager to accomodate your broadcast request.

Its great to hear folks say "I saw disc golf on TV last night!" Contact your local station and see what it'll take to submit a show, then give me a shout.

Joe

If you are not currently registered:

http://www.msdgc.com/players_players.html

Then there are four ways to get in:

1. Sign up for the Five Spots tourney nice and early. This will serve as our waiting list. If a qualified player does not claim their spot, then their spot will be given to the first player on the Five Spots registration. (registration for the Five Spots tourney opens on April 1).

2. Win a spot at an MSDGC Qualifier. The complete list of events, dates and locations can be found here: http://www.msdgc.com/qualifiers_events.html

3. Be one of the top 20 ranked players in the world. You must register while you are in the top 20. The current world rankings can be found here: http://www.marshallstreetdiscgolf.com/discgolfinfo_ranking_2007.html

4. Win a spot at the Five Spots tournament. This event is held the Friday morning before the tourney and is held on the Pyramids Silver course. More info on the Five Spots is here: http://www.msdgc.com/index_5spots.html

Central Mass Visitors Bureau has given us some money!

So we have adjusted the payout:

http://www.msdgc.com/players_payout.html

Is it just me or does the payouts look a little skewed in Open? The second place finisher wins over $2500 less than the winner, which is over half, and the third place finisher less than 1/3 of what the winner takes in. That's a very disproportionate amount of money for what could be one stroke difference between each of the top 3 finishers. This is something touring players have moaned about for years: if they finish just one place or one stroke better and suddenly they're not eating popcorn for dinner that week.

May 18 2007, 05:37 PM
You are right Jeff. We added $1000 to the ladies straight up. We added the money to MPO top heavy. All of the top folks are getting more money than previously, but the top finisher got more for the big check photo-op effect. We're talking with the visitors bureau about getting more publicity and local folks involved.

On a side note, I'm hoping the 5th place finisher can eat some good popcorn for their $1,000+.

ck34
May 18 2007, 05:48 PM
Considering that the likely winner will have played in Skins, it skews their overall payout even higher. But since it's not PDGA the payout's whatever MS wants to do. Perhaps the CVB specified their contribution should only go to the Open Men and Women Champs?

hey, how close to the courses are the motels listed on the event website? any of those better than the others?

too lazy to see whats listed but last year I stayed at the Hampton Inn which was about 20 minutes from the courses and definitely the most comfortable hotel bed I've ever slept in.

If you didn't get a camping spot at Pyramids I think you can camp at Maple Hill which is a short walk from Pyramids....contact Steve Dodge.

We have reached an epiphany. This will be the last MSDGC. This realization, however temporary, allows us to throw caution to the wind, especially in terms of camping.

Jason realized something important. Maple Hill has limited camping according to its Special Permit issued by the Leicester Zoning Board of Appeals. Pyramids doesn't have limited camping according to their special permit. The complicating factor is that Maple Hills special permit doesnt allow for pedestrian traffic between the courses. If too many people camp at Maple Hill theyll be walking down the street to join the festivities. Its not the best way to make friends in the neighborhood. Trust me on this one.

Besides, we have festivities planned, and we dont want people to miss them.

Camp at Pyramids if youre in the tournament or on staff. Here are the rules:

1) Please dont put glass in the fire
2) Please dont litter; butts are litter
3) Please dont drive on the DDC Court
4) Please dont bring friends, caddies, sisters, brothers, mothers, fathers, children, dogs or hangers-on to camp at Pyramids. By all means, however, bring them to the party Saturday night, except for the dogs. (We have our own dogs, and they get jealous.) If youre with other non-tourney people, camp at Maple Hill. Its much quieter there, and the camping possibilities are various; you may get eaten.
5) Please dont bite Pierre, and dont let him pat you

In general, however, we're calling Woodstock Rools. Whos driving to Duncan Donuts? Its just down the street. Youll be our hero.

There are other stooped rules, but theyre not worth naming cause they dont apply after 8 p.m.

$370
$240
$200
$160
$130
$110
$90
$70
$50 Since the Marshall Street Poker Table is added to the first place prize, the payouts will be a little bit flatter than traditional poker tournaments thus meaning that if you make the final table, you will be getting paid for your accomplishments :D

I remember a glow round Wednesday(?) night last year a big group of us played, I played with a Flashlight(one of the light up Frisbees) and shot better than I did my final round of the tournament, in the light w/ my whole bag of actual golf discs.

also- any recommendations for courses to play on the way to or from MSDGC? I live in western, NY. I was thinking of hitting Wickam on monday after the tournament, then maybe Warwick(never played there) on tuesday.

You'd be better off hitting warwick on monday, then jumping on 84 and hitting wick on tues. Maybe hit campgaw in between.. its in the short layout right now, but its still worth a play.

there was a 9 or 10 - some who played a late night round last night. One Man- Unit did not make it for all 18 holes.

weird having only 3 FriZZaks here.

completely new Maple Hill #12,and #18 is longer from golds now. I would guess it will make the course play 2 strokes tougher(12 is now a sorta easy par-5).

Southwick's Zoo (http://www.southwickszoo.com/) may be just down the round in Mendon, Ma, but they don't have anything on the collection of Frisbee freaks on hand at the properties of Jason and Tom Southwick in Leicester, MA for the 2007 Marshall Street Disc Golf Championships!

I arrived yesterday evening to find the party in full swing, with spirited rounds of Frisbeer, Double Disc Court, putting, glow in the dark golf and just about every other frisbee related activity you can imagine going on, not to mention several poker tournaments. With four rounds of disc golf on two world caliber courses, awesome player's package, filming for an annual DVD, a pig roast / barbeque, Pool Ball, poker tournaments, pie-eating contest, 6 kegs of beer (five different flavors) a pool, a hot tub, slushies, and head-shaving, there's just nothing like it.

Along with my partner in crime and Co-Director of Scoring, Andrew "Big Dog" Sweeton, we'll be on hand to provide live scoring and blogging throughout the weekend. We'll try to keep you all regularly updated as best we can.

There is the MSDGC, and then there is every other disc golf tournament.

About midnight last night a front blew through and dropped over an inch of rain. We awoke this morning with sunny skies and temperatures only in the high 50s! There's moderate breezes up to 20 mph with occasional 30 mph gusts that have already messed with some player's drives on hole 18 at Pyramids, resulting in several OB shots. It is expected to warm up "greatly" :Dto a high of 71 degrees, with the same on Sunday, so other than the gusty winds, one could not ask for more perfect conditions for a weekend of disc golf.

completely new Maple Hill #12,and #18 is longer from golds now. I would guess it will make the course play 2 strokes tougher(12 is now a sorta easy par-5).

I wouldn't say it's easy. The first thing I did when I arrived yesterday was play a round of golf on the Maple Hill Airplanes course. Again, I was awestruck. There's not many courses in the world that I would qualify as stunningly beautiful, but Maple Hill is certainly one of them. The combination of hardwood forest, Christmas trees, water hazards, huge elevation changes, and the idyllic setting next to 5 separate ponds make for a course that takes my breath away on every teepad. In fact, I would say that when you're down by the water on holes 5,8,9 or 14 it's one of the most picturesque spots on any disc golf course on the planet.

Back to hole#12: This new 730' pro par 5 is simply a masterpiece! The tee shot travels straight through a wide fairway in heavy hardwood forest for a distance of about 330 feet to the landing zone, at which point the fairway doglegs right. From there it's then about 250 feet to clear the woods, where it opens up. However, the basket is perched uphill another 150 feet or so amongst a tall group of Christmas trees. The drive is critical, as any error will result in a pitch-out shot to the dogleg. From there, throwing a shot that makes it out of the remainder of the wooded fairway and all the way up to the polehole is challenging. The christmas trees around the polehole are the tallest of any found on the property, and definitely come into play. (You can easily throw over them on holes 1,11, and 13.) Conservative fairway shots will probably net the birdie four for most competitors on hole#12, but aggressiveness may result in some bogeys or worse. I do expect at least one top Open golfer to eagle 3 it.

Has Pyramids Silver been changed? Cuz I believe I shot a 43 in 05 and a 45 in 06....but if the course has changed a new record must be set :D:D

If I only played that course my Marshall St World ranking would be much higher ;)

Courtney says that 65 on Maple Gold is going down next year ;)

**** I know everyone is having the time of their life there.... :D

Kev,

I just checked with Jason Southwick, and no tees or polehole positions on the Pyaramids Silver course have been changed. Your 43 is indeed the course record! The information will be passed on to Steve Dodge and the website adjusted in due time. Sorry, Kev.

We just lost power! Apparently seven towns in the neighboring area are without power which reportedly won't be restored until at least late afternoon. We pulled a truck up to house and connected the modem &amp; router to a converter on the truck car battery, but the internet company apparently lost power too and we're not getting a signal.

Thankfully, Co-Director of Scoring Andrew "Big Dog" Sweeton has a aircard-equipped laptop and we can still connect to the internet. Hopefully live scoring will then proceed without interruption for the rest of the day.

In her bid to win a fourth consecutive MSDGC title, it looks like Des Reading has opened a 4-stroke lead on her closest cardmate through 13 holes of play. However, don't count out Angela Tschiggfrie, who is making a move from the second Women's card.

Scott Papa just got his drive stuck somehow against the telephone pole on hole#18 at Pyramids! It's one of the most hilarious shots I've ever seen in disc golf, and it was most appropriate that it was thrown by the purple-haired wonder from the Pac Northwest. No 2m rule in effect, safely in-bounds, and we have the pics to prove it. :D

It was surprising to see Cale Leiviska on the third card after the first round of play, but he's made his move in the second round by going up by 4 strokes on his nearest cardmate through 16 holes of play.

Angela Tschiggfrie continues her hot play, as she's now up by 5 on her nearest cardmate through 15 holes of play.

In Grandmasters, Jim O'Hara and Davis Johnson were tied after the first round at Maple Hill. However, Jim moved 3 strokes clear of Davis with a stellar round of 57 on the Pyramids Gold course.
