Am I the only one driving with a Champion Starfire-L? Let me hear from you if you are using one too. I have tried to replace it with a Wraith but can't see why.

I bought one and I was very excited about throwing it, especially since it cost $25. It felt a little strange in my hand, and when I got home I found out why. It weighed 178g! If you have a totally clear CFR Starfire, it is probably illegal. They did not weight up without another agent added to the plastic that made them a little cloudy or totally pearlescent. Innova should have scrapped the whole run, but instead they are being sold for a premium price. In fact, I have found that the vast majority of Innova's max weight discs in Champion plastic that feature and "L" bottom are horribly overweight. Beast retool's are among the worst offenders, it is very difficult to find one that actually weighs 174-175g without getting one that weighs 177-178g. C'mon Innova, disc golfers trust you to put legal discs in their hands!

i got a ch. sl when they first came out and loved it. then got a Star SL because i like the plastic and they are awesome drivers.
the star sl starts out overstable compared to the ch. because they have an extra flashing of plastic on the bottom. remove that and they fly just like the ch. sl

Been throwing CFR SL's as my main driver for over a year. Really liked the Pro Starfire, but it beat up way too fast. Also carry a Star SL, it is much more overstable. Also carry a Champ Starfire (not SL) at 165g for my main long distance hyzer disc.
I have also wondered why more aren't throwing the CFR SL, everyone seems to ask about mine. I guess it is because they are not readily available except over the internet. It basically flies like a newish Pro Starfire, and does not change its flight pattern much over time.
Have any SL lovers tried the new Sirius Orion LS? I'm curious about that one...

How does one do that?

rub it on the carpet to creat some heat friction. Works really good on putters too, so they wont feel so new. I do this on the bottom and side of the rims of almost all my disc.

Can't comment on the weight problems, but I have a few champ SL's and they are really nice distance drivers. I generally pull mine out when I want a straighter line than a wraith. I think they compare to a brand new Pro Starfire, even after getting beat in a bit.

I got to throw my Ch SL last night at doubles. What a fantastic disc!!
I threw it on a lot of different holes and found it to fly further than my Ch Orcs but with less low speed turn...just like th Innova website says!! I am very pleased.
I'm glad others are throwing this disc I thought I was nuts. Because I'm the only one I ever see using it. I think that it is very underrated.

Anyone know if Discraft/Gateway etc make something with a similar flight pattern?
What about something similar to the regular Starfire?

Well...the closest thing Gateway I could think of that would be similar to a Champ Starfire-L would be an Inferno. As for discraft...not sure. The Roge from DGA is similar to a Champ Starfire-L in my opinion at least.

Thanks.
My wife always gets me a disc or two for christmas. What I do is talk to the owner at the local pro shop before she arrives. The owner then directs her to the disc I want. It is a good system that she doesn't yet know about.
Inferno...Rogue...
Anyone else?

I'm pretty sure the Orion LS is derived from the starfire-L mold.

would love to see the Orion LS in Q (Champion) plastic...
is the rim of the Orion as wide as the Starfire?

I might be wrong and am too lazy to try to look that far back, but I thought that Dave D said that it was based on the Sidewinder, not the SL. I do know that he did answer it in the "ask Dave D" thread somewhere between a year and a year and a half ago.

Not even close. It is close to a Firebird in width. It really is like a straighter/more stable Sidewinder. Definetely not as fast as the SL. It is more of a super fairway driver/control distance driver. The DGA Rogue is the closest thing to the SL that Discraft makes, but it is definetely faster and longer.

Ya, I throw both the SL (Star or Champion CFR) and the Orion (Sirius plastic). The Orion is a bit slower, more for longer distance straight control drives. The SL is faster, more for max distance with a left finish.
You could probably get away with one or the other, but they both have sublte strengths.
BTW, I have thrown the Rougue, and I do find it sorta similar to the Orion, but perhaps just a tad faster.
All these discs are definitely in the same "genre". They all can help intermediate ams get more distance!

I heard a rumour that the Champ SL was going into regular production.
Anyone know anything about this?
