Come on Innova, what does Des Reading have to do to get her own disc? In the last three years playing Open Women she has played 65 sancation event which she has won 48 times gotten 2nd 10 times, 3rd 4 times, 4th twice and 5th once. Tell me another disc golf player who has done the same.
If you believe Des should have disc with her name on it like the other Innova World Champs do then please post here to help send the message to INNOVA :D

What about Peter Shive, Annie Kreml, Dr. Rick and Sylvia? There are marketing considerations for Innova in addition to a player winning multiple World titles. I'm thinking maybe they will offer Des a disc for the EDGE program at some point, possibly a Shark?

You are correct Chuck.
There are many multiple world champions on team Innova. Dr Rick has 5 World Championships, Peter Shive has 7, Dave Greenwell has 4 and Stan McDaniel has 3. It is not possible to give every repeat champion a disc and how could anyone decide that Des deserves a Signature disc more than 7 time Peter Shive or 5 time Dr. Rick, who is also in the Hall of Fame?
Let me point out that Des is not more deserving than these other guys with more world titles, maybe people will get the hint. Des only beat 24 people to get her title, Dr. Rick beat 51 people this year and 55 when he won his 4th World Championship last year.
Please don't get me wrong. I think Des is a awesome player.

how many world titles did JULIANA win before she got her first disc?
or did she only get a signature disc from discraft and not innova? i know there's a jk aviar putter but not sure if its from a world championship. anybody

That's why the EDGE disc makes sense considering her dedication to that program and its potential to get many more girls in the sport.

OK, here's a can of worms but Open Women is also protected just like Master or Grandmaster and those guys play at a higher skill level. The top Open Women scores typically beat the Sr GM, Legends and the older women. However, that's more than half the population so it's a great achievement in a pool of potential disc customers second in size only to Open.

Can anyone tell me who won the Senior US Open this year without looking it up?
Now, can anyone tell me who won the Ladies US Open this year?
I know the answer to the second question but I have no clue about the first.
It's a great accomplishment to win any "old person" division but it's too bad no one remembers who the winner was? Open Women and Open Men deserve more accolade's then any other division, saying that I believe Des is our sports premier female player and deserves everything if not more than what Juliana received for her world championships.
I will say this, Rick Voakes and Dave Greenwell are pimp disc golfers!

Worlds nuggets:
I counted 8 titles for Monroe in decent size divisions. I'm surprised that the largest field of Open Women ever was at Tulsa back in 1985 with 32. Barry isn't the first Pro World champ from Wisconsin. Wonder if she's still playing? They didn't break the tie in 1984 between Johnny Roberts and Steady Ed for the first Sr GM title.

It makes me wonder what it's going to take to get people in this sport interested in expanding our player base to include more women, young children, and minorities. I'm sick of seeing all these fat, old, white dudes on the course :D
Seriously, not only has Des earned a disc through her tournament play, work with EDGE, and positive public presence as an ambassador of the sport, but also it would help her sponsor reach out to potential new players of the female gender.
This is not to say that any of the other players mentioned are undeserving of a disc.

It gets back to marketing and potential sales. Which of the aforementioned players has the best chance to incrementally increase the sales of an Innova disc? Des is on the road promoting the sport as much as anyone, especially with the EDGE program. An EDGE disc for her is a natural, not that it wouldn't also sell in the mainstream market, too. None of the other multiple winners sponsored by Innova, other than the guys who already have a disc, is really out on the national stage communicating with a large pool of potential new customers. Wonder if Dr. Rick gives out signature minis to his patients instead of suckers? :)

If any 70-year old guy beat Des or Juliana in 6 rounds, would that be an accomplishment? All you're doing is judging which protections are more meaningful than others, not the fact that they are protected divisions at all. The Open Women champion has beaten more than half the population. On the other hand the Open Master champ has beaten tougher competition in maybe 1/3 the population.
I don't think you can rank which is more important since each title is important to its constituency. And the constituency represents the baseline potential market for those signature discs should they be produced. And Des market segment is the largest of the ones we're discussing with the most potential for expansion so her disc makes the most sense from that standpoint.
Maybe it seems like the long way around but I'm all for the Des disc whatever it may be. Go Des!

I love my 3x JK-Pro Aviars. They're the only putters I carry.
Facts: This sport needs more participation from women. This sport needs more representatives of the highest caliber. This sport stands to greatly benefit from public figures who are not only Champions, but excellent examples of what it means to be a good sport and a role model.
My Opinion: Des is all of the above. I've met Jay and Des a few times over the past few years, and they're in the select few who embody what I think of as a DG representative. I've met juliana as well, and I think she also has a lot to offer the DG community. My point is that if any of our current champions deserves her name on a disc, it is Des.
Julliana got her own disc after 3 championships. Des has 3 (plus some dubs titles, yes?). Des is a role model for the women in our sport, and is the type of person to draw more participation from men and women alike. What's the problem?

The point is no one "deserves" a signed disc, even Kenny, unless discs signed by the player increase sales for the manufacturer. Then it's a good business decision, not some 'right" based on a player's performance. From our peanut gallery here, it looks like a Des disc would make marketing sense for Innova only partly due to her championships but as much for her leadership roles as an ambassador and educator thru EDGE.

I couldn't agree more, except that "deserve" is exactly the right word. The marketing makes sense. Disc Golfers of both sexes admire and respect her. She has done a lot for the sport and made quite a name for herself. By her wins and all her other DG-related works, she is the biggest female name in the sport. She has earned her own disc. It's not pure luck that has made her a marketable name. It's skill, hard work, and the admiration of others. If anyone "deserves" a disc with their name on it, Des does.

How about taking a peak into all of the world champion golf bags and finding the most common disc amongst them all and stamping all of their names on the most common disc circumferentially about the disc?!
I remember the old GCL 165 gram Frisbee Brand ultimate disc with multiple signatures stamped on it. One of the names was Scott Zimmerman.
Win win!

You don't know what goes on behind sponsor doors....except of course what you sponsor does for you.
It seems like you have been the vocal point of sponsorship and other players....etc.
My suggestion to you is to worry about yourself and not worry what other sponsors or players are deserving. Making statements when you don't know all the facts....is like peeing in the wind......you get pee on you

If you want a Des Reading disc that badly there were 100 star wraiths made with her name on them. There are still a couple left on ebay for $80. Thankfully I got a dyed one a few months back and only had to pay $30. If Innova makes 3-timers I'll buy a bunch. Congrats on the third Des!!!!
