So Des is a 3 timer now and as far as I know there is not a disc with her name on it. Am I correct?

A while back I heard a rumor that her name was going on the Orc?

I think Juliana won 1 or 2 Worlds before coming over to Innova. That's before my time, so I am not sure. But there were definitely 3 time JK Aviars, not sure if there were ever 3 time Valks.

Whatever Des threw FOUR HUNDRED THIRTY EIGHT feet in distance, give her that! That's awesome, Des!

I am holding my champ beast right now and it has Barry Schultz on it. He has won worlds twice. He has also won USDGC twice, but as far as the disc is concerned it only say 2 time disc golf world champion, which means 3 for Des is definatly enough. As long as they dont put her name on the Aviar. I cant handle another different aviar to choose from.

I agree though it is time to try at least a couple and see if we can't come up with something. But as far as Barry is concerned even though I am fairly new to this it is my understanding Schultz was so well liked and respected it was almost like everyone was waiting on the first major just to justify a Schultz signature disc.

Des is one of the most liked people involved with disc golf, and has done as much or more than anyone else in recent times, not only for the games growth, but also its image.

Des and Yeti are pillars of the disc golf community.

She deserves alot more than some signature disc they are basically giving away to everyone else. Juliana has 2 molds, Des deserves at least one.

I must be like the worst message board poster in the world it seems everytime I say something on here it kind of comes out wrong. I was not trying to take anything at all away from Des, I totally agree she deserves a signature disc or two, from what little I have seen she is almost always smiling and a very friendly and accesible ambasador to the sport and I don't know of anyone male or female in any sport that finishes consistintly in the top three the way she does. I think my problem was trying to make two points in the same post without a good break in between them. I was just talking about Barry because it seemed like everyone was pulling for Barry to get a World Champion in my 2003 video.

Why is it so important to automatically make a Des disc ?

Let me mention that there are many multiple world champions on team Innova.

Dr Rick , for one ,has 5 World Championships, Peter Shive has 7, Dave Greenwell has 4 and Stan McDaniel has 3.

It is not possible to give every repeat champion a disc and how could anyone decide that Des deserves a Signature disc more than 7 time Peter Shive or 5 time Dr. Rick, who is also in the Hall of Fame?

HALL OF FAME !!!!!! HALL OF FAME !!!!!

Please let me point out that Des is not more deserving than these other guys with more world titles.

I hope people will get the hint.

Des only beat 24 people to get her title, Dr. Rick beat 51 people this year and 55 when he won his 4th World Championship last year.

Hope this sheds some light on the subject.

Let it Go !!!!! :p

THE MOST IMPROTANT THING IN DISC GOLF ( imo ) is getting women involved in sanctioned play. Des Reading is a perfect role model for all the aspiring you disc-golf-her's. JK
seems to have fallen off the scene, why not allow the female contingency to have somebody to look up to, and let them be able to throw their plastic. From a marketing perspective, it is a brilliant idea...... She stays in the spotlight........ The newcomer to disc golf is not going to know the Dr. Ricks and Peter Shives in the world. They will see the male and female open players first, then learn whom the other's are later. Why not focus on what is hot right now.
Possibly you could hang you Dr Rick disc, next to your Scotty Pippen Nike High Tops. I will keep my KC and JK plastic ( hopefully someday Des plastic ) right next to my AIR JORDANS.

THINK ABOUT IT ! Or would you prefer disc golf remain in the dark ages forever?

gnduke
Aug 24 2006, 06:03 PM
The arguments against Des having a disc while champions of age protected divisions don't have a disc would be stronger if JK didn't have any either.

As far as I know, only open division champions have signature discs, and there are signature discs by champions of both the Open Men and Open Women's divisions.

Repeat champions in the Open divisions "deserve" a disc.

Is this Des' third Open title? I think it is so a signature disc seems warranted. But how's about y'all give it a little time? What's it been, like less than two weeks?

What is your compulsion to keep reposting the same post over and over again? Your thoughts are not so important that the rest of us should be forcefed them just because that's what you want. Can't we just be happy, hoping that Des might some day get her own, well-deserved disc? And what other subjects might we be able to talk about, with your permission of course, on a thread entitled "Des Reading Disc"? Would you rather we resume the thread about Hammock's ranting and ravings? Des is an incredible player and an incredible person. We would be lucky to get a disc with her name on it.

As for a disc for Des, I think many folks believe she deserves one. I think it would be nice, but it's not for us to decide. However that doesn't mean that the chit-chat won't continue.
