I was curious how certain things are indicated in different areas of the world.
The only one I have seen to be universal is the Safe call from baseball.
The thumbs up out call from baseball could mean out or good shot.
I've seen the straight arm (single or both) pointing down at an angle towards the OB as an OB signal.
I've seen a straight arm point up to indicate stuck above 2m, and a flat palm moving downward to indicate a disc that has fallen below 2m.

We usually use a thumbs down to indicate a disc OB, basball safe signal for IB.
It sounds like the deaf spotter at Pro Worlds has raised the bar on this practice!!!

Arms crossed overhead, forming an X, for OB.
IMO, works better than pointing because of the dissimilarity to the safe call.

clapping hands = IB
shaking head side to side = OB
Leave the safe and out calls for the Blue on the diamond.

Might work better than pointing, but may look too much like the Village People/"YMCA" thing. :D

"Young man, there's OB to be found
I said, young man, they've laid yellow rope all around
I said, young man, this course is designed to be sound
Taking penalties is unhappy.
Young man, in the fairway you must throw
I said, young man, to the basket you must go
You can get there, and I'm sure you will find
Many routes to avoid the OB.
It's fun to stay in in-bounds.

When I am spotting I give a guy "the finger" if he is IB and two if he is out. Every now and then he get's a vulgar comment too. I have not been asked to spot in a long time. :D

Interesting...........................I use the Football signals.....
Both arms to the Right or the Left signal the direction.
Both arms like a baseball umpire, waiving safely inbounds.
Both arms straight up for either Good or a Hole in one !!!!

I will quote myself from the Worlds thread about the best spotter ever. Lionel. and add a little demonstration of the new technique he did to demonstrate rolling. He even had motions for skip and floating. This guy was amazing.
Best volunteer of the tourney: The spotter on hole 17 at Lake Olmstead. Deaf disc golfer who just upped the level of spotting for the world of disc golf. With a steep hill that players drove onto, and often rolled off of, he improv'ed the greatest new spotter gesture. We all know safe and OB, but he added rolling to the mix. I have some pictures of him demonstrating this technique that all spotters should be taught, it's like having a sports commentator right there on the course. Good job! It relieved tension on a very tense hole (especially for us lefties!)

At USDGC a few years ago (before they went to red and green flags) you knew whether the disc went OB by whether the spotter walked to the spot where it went OB or if he just stood still.

DGTV has a clip in the newest vid of Lionel, I believe, demonstrating his superb spotter skills on a Barry Schultz, I believe, drive that rolls. Was he dramatic with all his signaling?
