I just recently got a New X-plastic disc in the mail but since it wasnt in a box and bubble-wrapped it got jammed in my mailbox by the delivery guy. It's only slightly bent but I would like to level it out.

Is there a way to straighten it back out.

also I'll throw this in to is there an effective way to deburr discs as to put the edge back?

How hot does your garage get?

I'll set a warped disc on top of the extra refridge in the garage and place a light book (not a dictionary) on top of it. Give it a day or two in 100+ degree garage and it'll fix the problem.

to de-burr standard plastic (dx,D, and whatever gateway's is called) just take it to some carpet and spin it (with some force) around on the edges. works GREAT for me

Put it in the microwave , filled with water upside down.
Place a glass dish on top.

Cook for 30 seconds to 1 minute.

Cool under cold water to touch. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

...then re-season to desired *stability.

* - I say this because my experiences with discs-in-hot-water have yielded an increased overstability - making my turnover discs a more stable flier. NOT the thing to do the night before a tourney... :(

Does the microwave trick work with the higher end plastics(champ, star, esp, z, e) or is it just the lower end plastics?

A foil hotstamp you will likely getcha some sparks in your microwave oven...is that a bad thing?

Only 30 seconds..........................then you can see the warps disappear.

Leave it in longer for softer feel.

Cool the disc down by running it under cold water and mildly flexing the rim in opposite directions.

Can you say " Stretching and Expanding the Polymers" ? :D

Wouldn't the microwave trick technically render the disc illegal?
If not I've got some serious cooking to do.

i've used the microwave trick before for tacoed discs, and the other day with some tournament funny money picked up one of those new gateway odyssey drivers to play with. threw it a few rounds, then it finally found a few trees. now with a hyzer flip release, it flattens out, dives hard right, and picks up into a perfect roller. i don't throw a lot of rollers, but i'm half tempted to keep it as is and start throwing them more often. i kinda figure that disc wouldn't fair that well with the mircowave, seems really touchy.

Take a saucer, of about the correct size to hold up the dome of the disc. Place the disc over the upside down saucer and leave them out in the sun for 4 or 5 hours. The plastic has a memory and will tend to go back to it's original shape if given a bit of energy. This is the least obtrusive method I know of. In my opinion, placing the disc in a microwave is potentially modifying the disc.

There has been debate that attempting to return a disc to it's original flight characteristics is not in violation of the rule.

802.01 Discs Used In Play
C. Players may not make post-production modification of discs which alter their original flight characteristics. This rule does not forbid inevitable wear and tear from usage during play or the moderate sanding of discs to smooth molding imperfections or scrape marks. Discs excessively sanded or painted with a material of detectable thickness are illegal. See sections 802.01 D, E and F.

a dx rock was crunched in my passenger side door recently. it was a hot day at a tourney, so i just set it on the hood of my jeep and it was flat by the afternoon.

Gary,

The problem is that several people have stated that putting the disc in the microwave makes it more stable, therefore you are changing the flight characteristics of the disc. I am not a plastics engineer, but I doubt that it effects it as much as a change in plastics though (Star versus Champion versus Proline versus DX)

I will say that I have used the sun and saucer method twice now and the disc flies the same as it alwys did with a comparable flight to other discs of that mold.
