You're in a familiar & tricky situation (whatever/wherever that is) for a tricky approach...or perhaps in some schule...what disc(s) do you usually/generally reach for? What's your "bread 'n butter" Utility Disc(s)?

Rhyno - predictable and straight // will hold any line with enough spin // will take a headwind quite well // can handle a SA flick

Demon G5i - loves to fly, albeit not very far, and goes left (rhbh) with NO persuasion = predictable // handles extreme SA torque with ease and fades strong

(I was COMPELLED to create a new thread cuz this DIGUSTion board is eerily quiet. And to you Archivists: post something original instead of posting links to similar threads...)

I used to use a Champion Whippet for lots of random utility shots, but I lost it and have been using a Gator now for quite a while. I like it better because it moves slower and rolls less. I'll always use the Wizard if I can, though.

CE Spider -
BH, FH, OH, FH roller inside 300', Offhanded. If the shot needs creativity, this is the disc that gets thrown 99% of the time, and usually to the disgust of the rest of the card. :)

For wierd flick shots, thumbers, and pitching-wedge type hyzers, I go to my firebird. For touch rollers (both forehand and backhand) and some short turnover flick shots, I use an E-element.

IMO, no disc that started production in any year starting with a 2 can be called "oldschool". But I digress....

My "go to" disc is still the Roc. Either my X-out CE or the beat Sanni depending on the situation.

I agree with the putter roll. I practiced rolling my Wizards a lot last year and it has really paid off a lot this year. I have gotten myself out of a more than a few ridiculous situations with a putter roll.

I had to practice alot as well. Here's the money routine= Next time you're on a DG trip in a hotel (Bowling Green) grab 2 putters, walk around the hotel, and try to roll down the hallways without touching the walls.

Champ Gator - any slow shot that absolutely has to come back at the end of it's flight, FH or BH

Champ Cobra - when it absolutely positively has to be straight hand to mouth, and so many touch applications you can't name them all; basically if you are standing there laboring over what disc to throw in any given situation quit screwing around a throw a Champ Cobra

CE Leopard - flick touch rollers, overhead touch shots, gotta finish turned over shots, even in the woods touch putts

Proto Wizard - all of the above except Gator applications

CE or Star Firebird for just about anything
(BH or FH for either direction), but if it's a short shot then I have turned to ESP Bangers

drone for short flicks
predator for anything over the top and cut rollers
leopard for low flying slow turning shots
challenger for short rollers
swirl for turnovers

Definatly the Champion Firebird. Right now I carry two, the older more beat up one is great for flicks and overhand shots. I tried a couple of star firebirds but my first one I lost after about a month, then lost the other less than two weeks later. They didn't feel as good as tha champions and did not seem to work for overhand shots as well.
For shorter trick shots I'll use a really beat up roc. The roc is only about 3 years old but it was one of my first discs ever so it has seen its fair share of trees. Now it works really well for getting up and over trees when I dont need to throw it that far. Also, if I am to close to flick that roc, I have started using an 11x kc aviar for those tricky approaches.

175g Champion Eagle - Most reliable thumber line on the planet. I haven't been able to pick up any disc that can give me the same line every time as the 175 Ch Eagle can. Absolutely beautiful cut to the right, or with the right angle almost a dead straight up-down...

My thumber shots saved me, at minimum, ten to fifteen strokes during MidNationals' six rounds.

If I can see the pin and it is inside 150 wizard.

If I need a low hyzer w/skip E-Spirit (mad skips) no skip E-Blaze.

If it requires turnover usually E-Element unless it is low ceiling then S-Blaze

give me an aviar or a coyote for any shot, touch, roll, pancake, whatever ya need. Or a CE firebird for anything else tricky. But then again, all I throw are sidewinders, firebirds, coyotes, aviars, and the occasional special blend roc. What else do you need??

All my discs are utility discs. I will throw trick shots with any of them depending on the speed and stability I desire with the result.

I don't have utility discs because I am never off the fairway. :D

Actually it is my super flippy element that I use for rollers and lefty flicks from the woods.

Easily the most indispensable disc I carry is a rare run Spirit. It is a clear, super-floppy, super-durable plastic. Its not E.

I use it for getting around trees, hills, whatever-stands-between-me-and-the-pin. The disc really shines when I need to do an approach and the pin is on a sharp hill. Between the sharp edge and the floppiness of the Spirit, the disc pretty much lays down where it first hits. Best knife hyzer disc ever.

If anyone has Spirits or other Gateways done in this plastic (especially Apaches/Sabers), please contact me. They are typically stamped with the Federal Mogul logo.

Flat top QMS all the way. Flies straight with little to no fall off when thrown on a straight line. Holds a long glide in either hyzer or ani release. It makes an excellent putter at 50 to 60 feet due to the stright line it holds.

It's one failing is it flies so straght. Most of us are used to the disc hyzering out and QMS's tend to simply hold their line.

Please note that I am talking about the flat top QMS's.
