A tier Super Tour....where the ams get treated like pros.....
Red Hawk Championship Course is a complete challenge with par threes, fours, and (now two) fives. Natural obstacles and ob lurking around the corner, driving range and basket practice greens. Rent a golf cart for practice rounds and take in the gorgeous scenery and the Florida air. Surrounded by activities including boat kayak canoe rentals, manatee tours, golf course and clubhouse with kitchen and full bar, swim and play like a pro.

The ams might even get a chance to play one round from the Gold Layout where the Pro Major Event will commence in November.

I am definitely looking forward to this event Bryan. I will be going up there on wednesday for a practice round with a couple of the guys. I am anxious to see the changes that have been made. One thing you didnt mention in you post Bryan, is that the top score from the advanced divisions will earn a spot in the Players Cup with the $200 entry fee paid. I most certainly have my eyes on that as I plan to be making the move to pro in Novamber anyway ( Moccasin Lake Open). This will be a great event as Sunking has always had in the past. Cant wait to see what pros will be volunteering for our weekend considering there were so many ams that volunteered for the Players Cup last year. :D

This is the inagural year for the Red Hawk Am Championships, the course has only been open for alittle over a year I think. The cap for the field I believe will be 110 if I remember Mike telling me correctly. Also about how many are registered: I believe only about 20 are signed up at this point. There are a bunch of procrastinators out there. I was the first signed up. :D

Just a reminder - The Red Hawk Amateur Championships (http://www.sunkingdiscs.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=S&Product_Code=9100-RHAOE&Category_Code=9100) is the only event this year that will both qualify and pay the entry fee (which is $200) for the winner of the Advanced division to The Players Cup '06 (http://www.theplayerscup.org)! In addition, this event is also the last chance qualifier for The USADGC (http://www.amnationals.com) .

This is a lifetime opportunity to play in a PDGA Major against the worlds best players!

I played the course on Weds and I must say it made me feel like an AM. If you are planning on playing this tournament you better get out and play the course because it can be very decieving at times in terms of setting yourself up for subsequent shots on the par 4 and 5 holes. Don't let the 1000+ footage be intimidating, this course does not give any advantages to big arms. I found that a crushing drive on the longer holes was rarely rewarding and often a 350' shot well placed was the best option. Hole #5 was a fun exception because a crush will give you a chance to get over the pond on your second shot, however you must choose to lauch off the tee through one of two 10' gaps through a cluster of trees positioned right off the tee. This was my favorite hole. I hope I can get out there again before the tournament and take some serious notes...

Dont worry Mike, we'll get back out there before the tournament. With this course, you have to be somewhat fimiliar with where the pathways are because they seem to be quite curvy in some spots you cannot see. There are so many blind shots as well, where you cannot see the basket off of the tee. When we get back out there, we should determine on each hole the safest and optimal landing areas. That might take all day! TTYL

Just an update on the course maintenance. I spent a few hours out there today with my brother-in-law and we got a good chunk of #8 finished including removing the rope-like vines and clutter of the palm tree about 100 feet short of the mouth. In addition, we removed all but one of the small trees that are coming down inside the mouth and started raking all of the leaves and loose brush as well. You can clearly see the pin off the tee now and the hole is shaping up nicely.

There's a few more limbs that will be coming down on #17 and some general weed whipping and that should wrap it up.

I saw a group from J-ville out there today preping for the tourney and I guess there were a few groups that came through this week as well.

As for the registrations, not to worry Ron. I have 10-15 more to put up but I'm waiting on payment. And why would disc golfers change now? I expect 60-80 total.

The players package is being finalized and will include some nice stuff. I'll drop a few more hints as we here back from some folks.

Thanks!
Mike

Sounds good Mike, Thanks for the hard work that is being put into preping this course for this premier event. I am planing on going out there again this friday, so if you need anything done out there just let me know.

I still know of atleast 5 that are going and have not registered yet. Just less than 2 weeks now, I cant wait! Will there be a tournament stamped disc in the players package? Thanks Mike, Have fun in Augusta!

I do not know what time sunday tee off is, but I do believe saturday tee off is at 8:30. There should be about an hour break between 3rd round and finals. Also, random draw doubles is at 4pm if you are interested. I just remember Mike saying something about there being a sweet players package
, but not what was included. See you at the hawk.

Anyone know any more about the tourny??
I was looking at the distances & pars- how different does the course play now w/ the changes- Players Cup had some good descriptions as I will be playing the Hawk blind but some other info stated there will be 2 par 5's-which hole did they change for that? Did they make a par 4 into a par 5?
Thanks Ron 4 your help?
Is there a TD out there with any?
Pumped! Ben

The new par 5 was a par 3 and is hole 13 and you are now teeing off way back and left.Other changes are:

Hole 1 teeing off further back, but same par
Hole 5 teeing off further baclk and right, also same par
Hole 6 teeing off about 200 feet back, now a par 4
Hole 8 basket has moved back about 75 feet, but same par
Hole 11 teeing off about 60 feet back, same par
Hole 12, basket is now shorter and to the right and tee off further back on pathway.
Hole 17 basket has been pushed back, but same par.

I will be talking to Mike today, I will ask him what time sunday tee off is. Let me know if you have any other questions.

I was at the course yesterday and it is looking great. It has been cleaned up considerably and a couple of holes have been given a complete makeover. New fly pads had just came in and when those are in place the course will be totally ready for championship play!

CONGRATS COREY W!!!!!!!!!

Corey threw many left handed crushes and nailed a few solid lefty putts to claim the first RED HAWK AM CHAMPIONSHIP.

and.........he earned a paid entry to the 2006 Players Cup.

Josh Cook and Fab from Sarasota played great in the final 9 to finish second and third respectively.
