Any recommendations/info on places to stay for poor/young/struggling disc golfers? I'd love to make the event but I need a cheap, safe place to stay.

People have camped on the course the last 2 or 3 years. That is a pretty cheap/free option.

Congrats on KS first A tier

Well, the Kansas City Wide Open plays at least half it's rounds in Kansas every year (has been entirely in Kansas at least once (2003 Ams), and believe it or not Octoberfriz was an A-Tier for one year back in the early 90s.

Seems like the Mighty Shunga Nunga might have been an A-Tier one year as well, but I'm not sure about that.

Yea Chappy when I think of KCWO I think of KC MO not KC KS ;)

Me, too. The big Kansas City is in Missouri, the smaller one is in Kansas. Metro area is probably about 60%MO /40%KS....but that's just a guess.

Amazing the PDGA would let the Friz be a sanctioned event.

Was a long time ago, in a galaxy, far, far away. 1991 if memory serves me correctly.

I know I had a great time. :)
Great tournament, courses, staff, players, etc...
Well done Eric!

I have never stayed in a more convenient location.
Within a two minute drive of the host hotel is-
1. The course(s)
2. Starbucks
3. Wal-Mart
4. McDonalds, Burger King, Montana Mikes, etc...
5. Hastings (music, video, magazine/book store)
6. I-35

This one is on my "Don't Miss List".

What a great way to officially end my summer. The drive home wasn't as bad as I thought it would be (4 hours 20 minutes)- and I have a great teaching schedule this year. :)

One of the many cool things that happened this weekend is I got to be a part of an all lefty card of recovering sandbaggers-
Jeff Ash, Ron Roberston, and Dave Wise. :D

PS- Don't ever get into a Mexican Food eating contest with a hungry Canadian. :D

Thanks to E-Mac & Staff for another awesome GBO! THIS is my fave tourney...bar none.

Whomever came up with the "mixed dubs alternate shot skins format"(*) for the Final 9 is to be commended for their creativity. This is THE BEST Final 9 I've ever seen as it showcased the Pro Women and the Pro Men individually in a doubles' team format. BRAVO!

* - Top 4 Open Men were paired with the top 4 Pro Women - men teed on the odd numbered holes, women teed on the even holes, then play was alternate shot for skins...

sounds like the same skins match at Z-Boaz Open, since McCabe plays the Z-Boaz open every year, he could have adopted the idea from Mace or at least that is my guess.I sure wish that I could have made it to this event but work got in the way :(.

Hats off to the Emporia local club for all the hard work they did for this tournament, the tournament was GREAT!

Emporia is lucky to have such a kick but DG complex, I really enjoyed playing the courses. A big thanks goes out to the person(s) who changed ALL 36 pin placements over night, it's rare when you see that happen.

The spotter on hole 18 (gold course) was working his tail off, BIG thanks to that guy also.

Jeff,
Had a great time. Had to bail, got home just before 11pm and wore out. See you at the OO, hopefully. Them darn Canadians sure know how to play discgolf. :D
Hopefully you had a safe roadtrip home RS. Great playing golf w/people from the great North.

I certainly want to give credit where credit's due!
While the gallery loves to see blood in a Final 9, this 'other' format keeps things lighter and more fun after a grueling 4 rounds over 2 days. I'm guessing the Pro competitors are glad the main competition is over...and can still WOW the crowd with their skillz...!

I think in the future we may have to use all 3 Emporia courses. That would be a horrible problem to have.

The host hotel is the way to go for sure. I think that we should switch host hotels. The Travel Lodge is going downhill a little each year. This year they poured chemicals in the pool, while my wife and son were swimming. Then later they locked the pool, because it was unsafe for swimming. They do put up with our crap, and they may make up for some of it's downfalls.

I saw some kick butt shots this weekend.
Danny hitting 17 for the first tourney 2 ever.
Robin canning 2 huge putts in the final 9, then throwing a perfect finger flick.

Cannot wait until next year.

loved the course (played like poop) but there were some minor problems with this tournement. first players pack was questionable(who is going to throw a 120 gram challenger?) second the t shirt is not made of the most durable fabric (kinda cheap) second i had a problem with a spotter on my last round i think it was hole two on the innova basket course i threw a annie too tight and hit the big cedar blind from the tee the spotter was not watching and i had to take a penalty for that (thats what there out there for WATCHING DISCS!) god bless the girl she found it after the round but i was still kinda steamed about that. i close with this, yes a teir experience was fun, but there was a lower tier tournement in okc that same weekend and i would have probally saved money going to that, and that money would have bought me a nicer tourney t and a tourney stamp disc. will i go again maybe, everyone diserves a second chance.

On the other hand, the paper up there did a great 2 page story on the event and printed this pic of your winner:

Sarah is a great spotter! She found my disc on that hole twice out of two throws, right in the middle of the fairway! :D She was actually there to find the discs that went into the tall grass, but probably got most of the others as well. My hat is off to the spotters that gave up playing in the tourney to stand/sit there all day, walk through tall grass, ticks, thorns and whatever else, just to find peoples discs for them. They might have missed a few, but overall, they did a great job! WIll you volunteer to be a spotter at your home tournament? Most people wouldn't, but they did. THANKS!!!!!!!

I love the light Challenger. They are a great catch disc. Something different. I also liked the shirt. Nice and light for the hot weather. And I liked the payout! Great job all around E-Mac and crew! I love playing those courses, and hope to do better next year!

I was also puzzled regarding the players pack disc. But it is a great throw and catch disc, it's suprisingly stable for 100 grams.

loved the course (played like poop) but there were some minor problems with this tournement. first players pack was questionable(who is going to throw a 120 gram challenger?) second the t shirt is not made of the most durable fabric (kinda cheap) second i had a problem with a spotter on my last round i think it was hole two on the innova basket course i threw a annie too tight and hit the big cedar blind from the tee the spotter was not watching and i had to take a penalty for that (thats what there out there for WATCHING DISCS!) god bless the girl she found it after the round but i was still kinda steamed about that. i close with this, yes a teir experience was fun, but there was a lower tier tournement in okc that same weekend and i would have probally saved money going to that, and that money would have bought me a nicer tourney t and a tourney stamp disc. will i go again maybe, everyone diserves a second chance.

Ever run a tourney before? Cuz your the ONLY one I heard complaining!
Sorry you feel that way about your player pack..the Challenger lites were supposed to be something different..besides they are NOT to play golf with, but for playing catch with.
Besides our Payout was FAT and we had some pretty bad arse trophies.
and as far as the spotter thing goes, I'm sure it's NOT this first time is tournament history the spotter didn't find the disc.

This is our popular Challenger mold with a super light plastic... great for catch! They fly great, and kids love 'em too. Perfect as prizes or players package items.

no i have not run a tournement before, yes the payout was amazing and yes the trophys kicked toosh too, and thank all who helped, you guys worked your butts off and it is appricated. this was my first a tier torunement and from what i heard you get a kick toosh pack, and when i got it it was kind of a dissapointment thats all im saying. cool the lite challenger great for catch and kids love it too, well i have a ultimate frisbee for catch and i am no longer a kid, it would have been nice to got some thing that is more benifical to mine and all the other people that got player packs that weekend games. and the t shirt cool i can see it cleaning the windows my car in a year because new you can allready see threw it. all im saying is that people i know that went to z boaz in feb of this year came home with a awsome sl and other things too. and i dont know about me being the only one complaining about it everyone i went up with said the same, maybe im the only one with enuf jewls to say something about it. and finally the spotter it is probally not the first time, and after the round she found my disc and i apoligized for being a arss hole.

[/QUOTE] No maybe it is because everyone that you went up there with played good and got a bad#$% payout and had a lot of stuff to show for it and all you walked away with was a Shirt and a Challenger Lite that you got for your player's pack. /msgboard/images/graemlins/ooo.gif :o:D:D:p

And honestly I would much rather get something that I can actually use and throw around my house and not have to worry about breaking a window like the Challenger Lite, rather than getting an SL that I would not use and just throw in my box of disc............... quit complaining.

No, he wants a top of the line disc, a collard shirt, a free bag and a fat pay out.

Whats the problem with that?

Thanks McCabe, I had a FANTASTIC time!
Pay out was great, courses great, overall experience................couldn't have been better.

I WILL be back next year. ;)

You know, You've played a handful of tournaments and you appear to be NEW to tournaments. You played in the Recreational division at 2 PDGA sanctioned events this year...I'm sorry you feel the way you do, but I'm thinking you have your expectations set just a tad bit too high. You paid $40 to play in a KICK BUTT tournament, finished 8 strokes out of LAST CASH in INTERMEDIATE, and now you're taking your disappointing finish out on our tournament??

GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT....
1. Payout was HUGE, FAT, GREAT, ETC...
2. We gave out over $1000 in trophies!
3. You got a non-Nike SHIRT, and a disc you've probably never even seen before in your players pack.
4. You got to play 2 TOUGH courses on a GREAT weekend.
5. Quit #$*&$!, come back next year, get your revenge on the AM2 field, and take your HUGE PAYOUT home with you then.

There are already pleanty of whinners and complainers in the sport, we don't need another.

BY THE WAY....The ONLY disc I found in the ponds after the tournament was a blue innova disc, no stamp and with the name of Billy Leonard on it. Found on hole 15 East. What are the odds??

im not [email protected]*ing because i didnt finish in the money :) i can care less about that. i played like horse manuer and that was all i could do the disc was released so for starters im not taking it out on the fact i played horrible, now that that is out of the way lets get to the facts: i played two great courses on a grate weekend no doubt. payouts were awsome and so were the trophys (kudos Eric and all that helped make the tournement possible) and if that means taking money out of the packs more power to you and all that won congradulations. im sorry i have caused all of you this much greif and caused such commotion, sorry i wasted all of your time. And hammer you can keep that disc you found i think it might be too much disc for a MA2 playier like myself, its more suited for a player like your self.

love,
billy leonard

You seem truly repentant - so bring a 12 pack of Boulevard Pale Ale for good measure...and make sure Smitty, McCabe, and the spotter get one...I'll disperse(/ingest) the other 9. :D
