Can people really throw over 800 ft?
I've always questioned the reports of these amazingly long throws.
I was wondering if anyone knows details/information about them.
For example, is it on flat ground, and what kind of line was the throw, a hyzer flip, or roller or something else. <font color="blue"> </font>
If anyone has info about this, im really interested to hear,
Thanks, Fuad

Fuad,
Read the posts in the following thread and you'll understand it all.
World record distances...HOW!!!? (http://www.pdga.com/msgboard/showflat.php?Board=Throwing%20Techniques&Number=71760&Searchpage=0&Main=71760&Search=true&#Post71760)

Thanks for the link Jeff.
I WILL say, though, since I don't want to bump that thread with my commentary, Bubis threw a 500+foot ace with a Roc at the KCWO last year (not during competition, and on a downhill hole)....just cause everyone on that thread seemed so impressed with the distance they can throw a Roc. I don't throw Rocs (I'm the only DGolfer in the country that doesn't, I guess) so dunno how far people SHOULD be able to throw one, but Aleksey is not a normal DGolfer

I'd say average Roc d is 240 to 280 for ams and 240 - 330 for pros.

This is a good point about Roc (or similar midrange) usage distance. I know many pros who can throw a Roc or similar 370-400ft. But it is truly a matter of choice.
The reason is, that it takes a hard/perfect throw to get a midrange that far. Why throw something that will probably net you a larger margin of error, when you can take a disc like a TeeBird and throw it just as far with less effort and more accuracy.
#1 at Water Works, where boobs aced the +500ft shot, I was getting my Buzzz's just as far as my Beast, but that is because it is so much vertical drop over that distance.

exactly - some holes that are 280 falt I throw an avair. Some holes that are 280 flat I throw a midrange. Some holes that are 280 flat I throw a driver. It's really hard to say "If I'm this distance I throw ______"

ive really, really wanted to go out and try this. on the salt flats ive had a ten foot putt get taken by a strong head wind lift it up and over my head, hit the ground on edge to wobble away from me and the basket in the opposite direction, for at least 900 feet til it hit a log. i think provided a strong wind and unlimited clear salt flats you can get it to wobble for miles.

I think the idea is to get the car ready , throw the shot and follow it with the car , video taping the shot !!! /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

thanks jeff for the link,
its still hard to believe how far of a throw that is.

I think the 1st roller record set in the salt flats did just that, role till it hit the edge. If they had started somewhere else, that roller would still be going.

I believe Scott Stokely threw an XL when he set it, then Ken Jarvis beat it with a DX Teebird, then Stokley reset it with an XL and then Christian Sandstrom set the current mark with a DX Valkyrie.
I've had the privledge of watching Christian throw for distance, and you ever get the chance to do so you should watch. It is amazing how high he throws it and how much control he has. I saw him throw one like 640 and it was amazing to see. As soon I as I saw that I thought man hes thrown one 200 feet past that.

Here is another nice link on the subject (http://www.pdga.com/msgboard/showflat.php?Board=Throwing%20Techniques&Number=500551&Searchpage=0&Main=500069&Search=true&#Post500551), with excellent descriptions from Blake T.
The 10 latest distance records (in meters, multiply by 3.28 to get ft") and the discs used :
1984 Frank Aquilera USA 167.88 Innova Aero
1987 Michael Canci AUS 186.83 Lightning P38
1988 Sam Ferrans USA 190.07 Innova Phenix
1993 Peter Albers USA 193.58 Innova Viper
1993 NiclasBergehamm SWE 197.38 Innova Viper, 179g
1995 Scott Stokley USA 200.01 Discraft X-clone, 169g
1998 Scott Stokley USA 211.32 Discraft XL, 168g
2001 Chris "Max" Voigt GER 217.05 Discraft XS, 170g
2002 Ken Jarvis USA 247.00 Innova DX Teebird
2002 Christian Sandstrm SWE 250.00 Innova DX Valkyrie 168g
Niclas' record from 1993 was the last one set at near sea level, all records broken since has been at high altitude. But it's possible to throw over 210m/700" at sea level as well, Sandstrom has done it several times during practise.

Marked by Ken Jarvis too , by the way !!!!!
Christian Sandstrom's was thrown after Ken Jarvis's throw .............with the addition of a extra 5 mph wind !!!!!
Not exactly Identical conditions .............just for the record.
Yes , Ken Jarvis provided me one of his distance TeeBirds.
It is signed and dated as the "Worlds 3rd Longest Distance Thrown Disc , EVER ". :D

Indoors at the Lockheed-Martin F16 assembly line near Fort Worth, TX. The assembly line is literally 1 mile long.

and so far, lockheed has been very accomodating to our requests.
it does make sense, since the real long arms are in texas anyway, so they wont have to travel far to compete.

It's plenty tall and wide. A BlowFly works wonders for a concrete or asphault roller. :)
