We are now in full production of our new 4 disc set of golf discs called the Odyssey's.
The set includes 4 discs with over-molded technology.
All 4 discs have a clear center and "s" plastic in the rim:
*
The Odyssey Putter is a copy of the Wizard:
Odyssey Mid-Range Approach: very easy to turn over
Odyssey Control Driver: Great reistance to turn and a very long glide
Odyssey Ultra-Long-Range-Driver: A long flying disc that is easy to control. It has a scream top and Illusion wing.
These discs are great for getting someone started in the game of disc golf and also for players with less arm-speed and power.
The gyroscopic technology allows for each disc to stay spinning longer which keeps the discs on their flight plane longer than traditional discs.
Please post any questions or reviews on these 4 new discs here!
The discs will be on the webiste soon, but for now you can call the shop at Gateway to order! 314 487-5204

Dave is right, the odyssey is truly odd but in a good way. Ive personally thrown the Odyssey models and when thrown hard the midrange and putters 1st part of there flight is amazingly fast. The disc get where they are going in no time at all. For rec. players and first timers these discs will be the ticket. Very straight for slower arm speeds and the gyroscopic effect is tremendous helping the disc old a line longer.
Also for any of you guys that like to throw the fan grip, the disc has the perfect rim for that.

Chris,
Thats a good description for the discs.
I am really happy with the flight of each model and how they work as a set.
Most new players do not power grip at first and the inside groove on the bottom really helps new players hold the discs and get more rotation. Combining the added spin from the grip ring, with the discs already being really gyroscopic, this helps new players shots stay on line longer without falling off against the spin!!

Are these available at the Gateway store? I've been taking a few buddies from work out to learn to play the past few weeks, and it's about time that they get some plastic of their own instead of rock, paper, and scissoring for first dibs out of my trunk. I'd love to be able to swing by JB with those guys and help them pick something up that'd be very beginner friendly.

WE have some of each odyssey ( putter, Mid-Range approach, Control Driver and Ultra-Long-Range-Driver) at the Shop next to JB.
There are some really cool control drivers with Tye dyed middles, all of the other odysseys are clear in the middle.
I also have a ton of prototypes from things weve tried that are not yet in production and some others that will never be. I have a new 9-1/4 inch disc and many versions of the Scream DT with dimple technology. There are also many polymer blends in all models that are unique, some pretty cool stuff for collectors.
I will eventually get most of it on ebay with descriptions and pictures, but If anyone is interested in buying any of these rare prototypes before email david@gdstour.com

I dunno about gyroscopes...
but I got a chance to throw that wizard/odessy putter thingy... and it flew sweet.
Eric gave it to me, and I love it. I will have to get me some of those in the near future.
It's hard to get gateway up here though.

I bought a few and tested them on the football field and on the course. I thought the putters were great. The grip was a little funky but it worked well with a fan grip. I'm not switching putters, but I think they have a good one.
The driver was strange. For me it was straight, slow and mid-rangey. The funkiness of the grip was a big negative. The mid-range was understable.
I have no idea whether the whole gyroscopic effect sales line is genuine of just a come-on. Odyssey is definately putting plenty of odd in every disc. They are appropriately named.

Bruce,
Have you thrown all 4 Oduyssey discs?
Putter, Approach, Control Driver and Ultra Long Range Driver?
It doesnt sound like you threw the ultra long Range driver as they are fast and Fly as far as any disc I have ever thrown.
They are mostly Yellow but a few are white.
Do you feel the ones you threw make for a good sart up set?
I'm prety sure we have never met in person, Have we?
I cant wait much longer, always looking to put a face with poster, it could add to your entertainmant value! :D
I really enjoy your opiniated posts, and envy you for being able to do so!

Do they float in water ?
gdstour
Jul 01 2006, 03:34 PM
Yes they do float in water as the specific gravity of the plastic is less than 1.0 in all of the discs.
1.0 in a wizard would have the disc weighing 125 grams 1.0 in the Ilusion would be 165g.
Heres the math;
Cubic cubic centimeter X specific gravity = weight of part.

We just prototyped another disc in the Odyssey line:
It is called the power driver and is very similar in flight to a wraith. During the testing on Monday Justin and I were getting several shots well over 500 with Kid getting 3 over 560 ( one was actually lost somewhere over 570 in the weeds). There was a nice 15 MPH left to right wing, but the disc was still huge even into the wind.
It is not flippy or overstable and should be able to be thrown by players with a wide range of power with ggreat results.
The disc is the same over-molded variaty as the other 4 and is the longest flying discs we make.( It flies a little farther than the illusions.
We will be building a one pice version right away, I think this discs will rival the wriath in any Distance contest.

Methinks quickdisc is looking for an EI driver...although he surely has enough D to get across all the water shots. Me, on the other hand...

As somebody that spent his summer giving lessons at Highbridge Hills in Wisconsin... I have to say that this four-disc set is THE TICKET to getting new players! I had 11 year olds that had never thrown a disc golf disc placing 250 foot forehands with the ultra-long driver! Twice I witnessed kids of similar age hit 60 footers with the putters!
These things are... just... WOW. I can even say that, after severely bruising my fist last week (I apparently hit harder than I thought. Stupid tree.) that I could get right into throwing left-handed with these things!
And even throwing right handed... there's something so easy about the Ultra-Long (or as I like to call it: THE YELLOW ONE... haha!). It is like a superlong teebird-L. I can just back-hand wrist flick a TL and get the most gorgeous little S-Curve... with this yellow disc it takes the same controlled S and adds 75+ feet to it (from a 275 soft S to a 350 soft S).
Great discs :)
-Chris.

Heres an update on the Odyssey series:
The control Driver is the old mid-range and the Ultra long range driver is like an overmolded slightly understable Illusion.
There are now 6 discs in the Odyssey series:
True Line Putter; This version has the same top as the Wizard, but with a square bead and like a shelf. It flies dead straight like a broken in Wizard.
(mostly green or blue)
Putter: same shape as the Wizard and slightly overstable:
Mostly Orange)
Mid-Range Approach: Flies like a really broken in aviar P&A with the speed of a stingray.
(mostly Blue)
Control Driver: a domey version of the roc and can be thrown very long and straight with control slightly overstable at lower speeds
( mostly RED)
Ultra long range driver: a slightly understable high speed driver and can fly extremely far with a nice long straight glide, similiar to a broken in H Illusion
( mostly Yellow some bright orange)
Power driver: This is the overmolded version of the new INFERNO. VERY fast and stable, not that easy to flip and doesnt hyzer out very much either.
(mostly red in color, some green)
Each of the overmolded discs are made with an "s" type plastic on the rim that has great impact resistance and a clear center. The center of the first few runs of the prototypes were not impact modified enough as we were trying to keep the centers really clear and some were cracking. This problem has been worked out and the centers have a nice grippy surface and are still clear.
The discs are great for players of all skill levels and work really well as a set!
If someone has an early run on an odyssey that has cracked, please contact www.questat.com (http://www.questat.com) as they will replace the disc if you send the broken disc back.
New and improved perfomrance enhancing technology has taken Gateway and Gateway-Quest to the forefront with our overmolded discs anddimple technlogy. Look for more discs with the DT ( dimple technology) as it will truely revolutionize how discs perform.
Thanks for all the support for our new discs and look for the INFERNO to be PDGA approved this week and ready to ship.

Does anyone else out there use these discs for tournament play? I used an Odyssey Long Range Power Driver (150g, flippy orange) quite a bit this past weekend at the Memorial and got a lot of wierd looks. I can throw the thing about as far as anything in my bag, and the gummy, grippy plastic kept my shots from skipping into the lake at Fountain Hills several times. I love it!
