I'm looking foward to another fun tourney. I can hardly believe this is the 8th Capital City Classic. Always looking for more sponsors. Also some tasty grilled food after the second round at Lincoln Park.

Dan is coming. He shot great yesterday and a hit a $300+ ace. Bryan Schumann and Chris Mukukenow are coming as well. I have 1 other guy that might be coming. Tom Schodtler & Tom McManus are also making the trip. Cya there.
Oh, I almost forgot. I can gurantee Steve Slater will be there. He played his 38th event at IOS #6 on Saturday. Someone will probably ride with him. I'll bet he plays 2 events next weekend so Springfield will make #41 for him this year. He is going to crush Feldberg's record of 48 sanctioned tourneis played in one year. Unreal!

Kent, are you going to get a tourney shirt? Good players package this year.
Trying something new this year - I'm planning to have flags at the longer holes to denote 100 - 200 and 300 feet from the pin.
It will be interesting to see what people think of this
In the players package will be t-shirts and a disc - along with other misc. stuff

The tourney keeps getting better ever year. Also having a distance competition this year.
am hoping to get 25 dvd's for the first 25 player packs courtesy of disc golf live.
just need to figure out how to burn 'em!
looking for Roc's ??
find "Frog" at this tournament - he has a Roc Collection like you could not believe -- if the price is right, he just may show you something..
The tournament is about 2 weeks away - players bulletin is currently being revamped - we renumbered some of the holes at Lincoln to make the flow easier.

It looks like the local SDGC website, www.discgolfclub.org, (with tourney info), is temporarily out of order for maintainance work. Keep checking daily, however, as this tourney is one you don't want to miss. The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library in Springfield is awsome! /msgboard/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

It is the Capital City Challenge, and has historically been named as such. Someone once proposed the Lincoln/Douglas Debate for the name of the tournament, but it never panned out. If you do come to this tourney a day or two early or later, you can see Lincoln's Home, Lincoln's Tomb and the Lincoln Presidential Museum, but hardily in one day. The Museum is quite the experience to experience in one's lifetime, as well as the chow to be served up (hopefully) after the second round.
"This could be the sleeper tournament of the year for Illinois."

I like to call it the CCC. Some good food for a fair price at the end of the round hits the spot. If the weather is a little chilli it would be good to have a big pot of chili cooking.

Played the tourney layout at Douglas today. Shot one of my better rounds for a 7 down. As usual, putt the birdies and stay away from the fours. Another adanced player shot a 3 down. The weather was great today.

Boo! Bad rule! If everyone putts with the best putter available (that being the Challenger, of course), I won't have an advantage. Seriously though, I am looking forward to my first trip to Springfield.

J.K., I think you will like coming to Springfield and playing the two courses for the Capital City Challenge. I doubt it will be your last trip to the Capital City.
All Midwesters, come check this tournament out! You'll like it!

Is it too late to pre-register for this one with snail mail? Do I even need to pre-register?
snail mail? snail mail?
show up early. the earlier the better to sign up quicker and practice more!
#3 pro tees (log) to #4 basket is fun @ douglas
Holes that will make or break your game.
1. #5 Douglas Park. Insane uphill shot - hit the first tree and you will not get a 3. Little do the out of townies realize that you can hook a hyzer by the baseball field and go around the last tree on the right for a clear uphill shot towards the basket (more of a 2 shot that forms an L instead of a straight line risk shot) then again, if u can throw straight thru the trees, you got a decent upshot. Risk.. Reward..
2. #3 Lincoln Park - from the blues, or whites - it's an insane straight anhyzer fade for rhbh then an approach shot for 3. I have seen people card 10's on this hole.. Trick is to get your first shot clean off the tee and straighter than a pin.
3. #11 Lincoln longs - Big difference between a 2 (long bombers) and a 4,5 -- Straight shot, no 1st tricky shot. Trick is on the approach shot - landing in an area for a decent putt.
4. #14 Lincoln - Straight 300, TWICE. you got it made.
5. Get deuces, lots of deuces.. i figure a perfect game would amount to 31 birdies and a leeway for 2 bogeys (#3, #14 lincoln) total. (note: perfect game)

As of 10/04/06, snail mail would be a gamble to try to get registered for the CCC. History would show that no one has ever been shut out of the CCC and you're about, IMO, 90% sure to get in by signing up Saturday morning. Be sure to get signed up early however. The forecast for weather is looking very good and we have the most ever preregistered.
A local Frisbee Rancher hinted that the Chicago players might have a tough time on our kind of long but more technical courses for the tourney. The St. Louis players will probably do better. Especially if they are Cardinal fans. Peoria players have a good chance also. Indiana and Iowa players are sool.
If your initials are B.S. and you are from Wisconson, you have a personal invite to this tourney.

I hope I get to the course in time to register. I hear the players pack has more prizes. See Vose's Corndog for some serious side bets. I must only get a score of 4 on hole #3 at Lincoln. Both courses are fairly forgiving if you get of the fairway. Need to putt really well to win.

Even more difficult OB on hole 3 at Lincoln. Sorry ahead of time for the lack of water in the pond. Still OB.

TD was getting the courses in tourney shape. Sorry but first round adv./pro play from mostly natural tees and five concrete. Then at Lincoln all concrete. I was looking at hole #3 at Lincoln today and saying I can throw a gradual 250 turnover through a 10ft wide area with OB 25 feet to the left and woods on the right to block my next shot.

Dana, glad to hear your are coming down for the tourney. I will be there early setting up and warming up. As you already know, get many birdies and stay away from those bogies. A six down at Douglas would be a good round. If someone gets hot they could shoot a 10 down.

Thanks for the heads up. Are they on longer holes?
smurphy29
Oct 06 2006, 09:57 PM
The overall length of Douglas isnt very long. Hole #10 plays from natural tee and very gradually uphill. I'm guessing 350ft direct route and 400 big hyser. Hole #5 plays from concrete and has more uphill elevation. Probably plays 430 total and 320 to good landing area. Rest of the holes are shorter. Many straight shot 250 holes with trees to force power drives.
