Still Water Farm, Govan, SC is happy to announce the SC Qualifier touney Sept 23 & 24, 2006. Still Water Farm is a championship course, similar to Winthrop University.
Still Water Farm is a beautiful, somewhat secluded course with rolling hills over looking a big pond, along with some woods. We have a cabin, lodge and camping with hook ups for rv's and restrooms with showers. The Govan gang strive to provide any and all accommodations possible. Still Water Farm is approx. 15 mins from town, so the Govan ladies provide breakfast and lunches. The cabin is already reserved. There is still plenty of room in the lodge.
More info and registation form will be posted in the next few weeks.

NO, it's not true for now. Govan, Still Water Farm is a privately owned course by the mayor of Govan, Johnny Ganus.
Mr. Ganus saw the sport being played and fell in love. Mr Ganus is not a player of the sport due to his age and schedule. Govans existance is based on yearly events. Mr. Ganus provided a course out of the goodness of his heart, with the help from Tim "Shade" Hogg as course designer.
So, for Govan to succeed we need the support from our fellow disc golfers.

Hi John, good to hear from you. Hope you and Lisa are doing well. Your help will be greatly appreciated. Give us a call. Mike tried to call you this am but you are sleeping.

Aug 22 2006, 02:26 PM
Govan is a great place to play golf and the truth hole is an incredible finishing hole.

Speaking of which, what will the layout be. If it is the monster 18 hole course, I will try and make it.

Vanessa
Aug 22 2006, 02:43 PM
Chuck (and any other interested Summiteers) -

All divisions are offered.

The Govan course has multiple tees for a wide range of players, with the Gold layout at about 10,000 feet and the other layouts shorter. The alternate tees are not necessarily just shorter but often oriented differently around the various obstacles and elevation changes - in my experience the par stays pretty solid across the range of tees, quite an accomplishment, I think. And "The Truth" (hole 18) is still very truthful, even if you play from the shorter tees!

ck34
Aug 22 2006, 03:08 PM
Based on my schedule, I may just try to come over and visit on a day trip Saturday to watch the action and walk the course, maybe dragging along another Summiteer or two. If The Truth is a quarter mile at 1320, it's just under our par 6 on the Gold course at Highbridge which is at least that but steadily downhill. Open, Masters and FPO get to play it at PW2007.

The truth hole...Gold tee
Wide open hole.not a tree anywhere on the hole.you can take your pick of shots.Slight downhill off of the tee.Fairway doglegs right .After dogleg, the fairway rises slightly about a third of the way to the hole before it rolls downhill again to the basket.Sounds easy. The problem comes from the OB ropes that run down both sides of the fairway. The ropes start @ the corners of the tee box and widden out as they run away from you.I dont Know exacyly how wide the ropes get @ the dogleg but, when Shade Hogg (designer ) got back from a week @ the USDGC last year they got narrower. From the dogleg to the basket , the fairway stays the same width until it stops about fifty ft (?) from the island green ,that sometimes has been round and other times has been diamond shaped, about 60 to 80ft across. The kicker to all the OB is a wind that has been known to blow up to 30 MPH.This is just one of the great holes on this course. The fairways all have distance markers, set 50 ft apart, running down the middle of the fairway leading into the baskets. This course will let you know if you have what it takes for the USDGC. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Aug 23 2006, 09:53 AM
How are SCDGO points being calculated and awarded for players (hopeful USDGC qualifiers) who are not playing from the same tee pads as the rest of the division that they have been accumulating points in all year? Seems like some folks might have to make a decision on whether to play for SCDGO points in their division (or) for the USDGC spot.

Count Epicenter in for a Worlds CTP package. Good luck to all competitors!

mynameisJonas
Aug 23 2006, 11:53 AM
That is how I read it. If an Amatuer wants the USDGC spot, he would sacrifice his SCDGO points and pay $65 and play Open. It wouldn't be fair to play different tees in the same division anyway, longer or shorter.

The spot is available for current SC residents. How has the USDGC or state of SC, determined this in the past? I think that it should be limited to my county.

Aug 23 2006, 12:04 PM
hey can i play since i was the SC rep in 2002

DNA_2
Aug 23 2006, 01:29 PM
I think that the Adv. Men players should play from the same tees that the pros do and if they want to pay that extra 30 bucks to compete for the USDGC spot then they should, so that way the better Am players that are wanting to try to get in can try and qualify and not lose the points for the SCDGO.

In the past when they had the SC qualifier at Chapin the Adv. and Open Men played from the same tee, so theoretically a am player shooting a better score than the Open men could have gotten in.

Im going to contact Dave Cannon about the issue since he is over the SCDGO and see what he thinks

MISSY2
Aug 23 2006, 01:42 PM
You have to be a present SC resident or a past resident, this is my understanding from Mike per H. Duvall. Each state has their own qualifing tourneys. If you want to play to qualify for the USDGC it's $65.00. If you want to just play in the tourney you pay the regular division entry fee of the division you wish to play.

I believe the points either way will be handled as usual.

mynameisJonas
Aug 23 2006, 01:58 PM
At Chapin everyone played the same tees on the same day. At Govan, Am players have not play the same tees as Open players. Dave is going to win the am division anyway so man up. I can't see players in the same division on different tees, that doesn't seem fair. Now if the same tees are used than I don't see any problem.

MISSY2
Aug 23 2006, 02:00 PM
Hole # 18 has a little differnet layout. Tee pads are behind #17's basket. The pro tee pad plays 150 to 200 ft w/ ob stakes
then turns right along the road for 1000 or more ft to the basket. Like I said it is a true 1/4 mile hole.

DNA you need to talk to Mike or Joey they know the points & everything else from Dave And Harold. No one will lose their points from my understanding.

On Sat. Sept 23rd 2-18 hole rounds, on Sun. sept 24th 1-18 hole round, with ceremony to follow.

Aug 23 2006, 04:20 PM
As I was saying, I know that Chapin has had Ams and Pros play the same tees and I know that Govan has different tees for Ams and Pros, I wasnt talking about having some Am players play from the Am tees and having others play from the Pro tees and still getting points.

What i am proposing is have the Adv. Men and Pro Men play the same tees. Its simple, its easy, and enough said.

Oh yeah, My game talks for me and right now its saying that I'm a winner. Peace, Bring It

They have been instructed by SHADE, along with direction from others and are doing their best to set up this tourney to be as fair as possible for everyone to enjoy.

And oh yes the gateway plastic holds up very well. S plastic, way better than DX. E plastic as durable as anything out there. And like ive said before, GATEWAY PLASTIC propelled me to my first B-tier win. I throw what works for me so dont talk about something you dont know about.

Please pass along our thanks to the property owners as well. How lucky we are that non-disc-golfers have made their beautiful property available for the aforementioned hard workers to build such a course, and for the rest of us to come out and enjoy a weekend. I was able to commute but I bet it was a wonderful play to stay and camp, for those who did so.

And wind notwithstanding, this was a goldilocks weekend---after last year's Ganus Cup (too hot) and this spring's TPC (too cold), the weather was "just right".
