OK, with the bare bones details out of the way, let me get to the meat ...

By way of introduction, my name is Chris LaSonde and I am both President of the Mobile Area Disc Golf Association (Mobile, Alabama) and the director of this year's Southern National Championships.

As an historical aside, the Southern National Tournament Series got its start in Mobile a decade ago, growing from the kernel of an idea tossed out during a friendly round of golf to a schedule that this year boasts more than 100 tournaments in 17 states (and the U.K).

This year we celebrate our 10th Anniversary by returning both the SN Amateur and SN Pro Championships to their roots in Mobile. More than 300 disc golfers will play on six courses over the Labor Day Weekend (September 2-3).

We expect a combined payout in excess of $30,000, with considerable cash added into the pro purses. In fact, this may be the biggest tournament ever not yet on your radar. It is a PDGA B-Tier (the only reason we are not A is that some of the Southern National Players are not PDGA members and we don't want to make that a requirement for this tournament). It is a USDGC qualifier with five slots. It is also a Player's Cup Qualifier.

From big, weighty player's packs to skills competitions, lunches on the course, t-shirts, player's party to host hotel (full hot breakfast) to custom painted baskets and doubles and even a conviently arranged Monday holiday for travel to Southern National award ceremony at hotel this is first class all the way.

Last year Barry Schultz ($1850) and Matt Orum dueled down to the wire in Open, while Dean Tannock ($1315) took home top prize in a deep Masters field. Carrie Berlogar ($805) bested a field of 10 women. We expect more of the same this year with strong courses, a stronger field and bigger and deeper payout.

I sent an e-mail to Jonathan Poole with Innova, asking for help in getting the addresses of the 24 Team Innova players who are qualified for this event. There are also five players from Team Discraft qualified. Some of those who are qualified will get invitations based on their standings in SN points and will have until July 15th to secure their spot. The others will be eligible to grab any remaining spots on July 16th.

I am sending out the invitations tomorrow, so anyone who checks the link in the post above and who knows the addresses of anyone on the list could help me a lot by getting me information as soon as possible.

Invitations were handed out at our 144-player City of Mobile Doubles tournament this weekend. The balance for who I had addresses were sent out this morning to the top qualified players proportionally in each division. I have no way to send invites to the 60-odd players for whom I do not have addresses.

Remember that invited players have until July 15th to register and secure their place in this tournament. On July 16th, all other pro players with Southern National points (an additional 500+ players) can sign up on a first com, first-served basis. On August 15, an additional 2,000 Am players with points can grab any remaining spots.

On-line registration is up and running at excellent sponsor Marshall Street Disc Golf's site for those who receive invitations.

Invitations are in the mail. If you don't get one and are on the list that means I either don't have your address or I may have an incorrect address. Please e-mail me or give me a call and I will set it right.

Started crunching the numbers last night for what we have so far ... Pro Purse looks to top $22K so far, not counting sponsorship money yet to come.

Last year, the payout topped $18K. Barry Schulz took home $1830 for 1st Place Open with a a payout that went 19 deep in a 54-golfer field. Last place cash got $210.

Dean Tannock took home $1315 for first in Masters (24-man field); Berl won $805 in a 10-player women's field; and Lavone Wolfe took $925 for finishing in front of 16 other grandmasters.

This year will be even stronger. Last year's tournament was wonderfully run and we look to emulate their success. Attendance was severly handicapped because the tournament was held a mere 5 days after Hurricane Katrina devastated Mississippi, but I would be extremely surprised in the Pro field did not fill it's 144-person limit this year.

Remember to register by July 15th if you got an invite or you may find yourself on the outside looking in.

In addition to the divisions originally announced, we will also be offering a Pro Women Master division. Because this division was only contested a few times during the 2005-2006 Southern National Tournament Series, we do not have a separate points breakout on which to base invitations.

Several of the invited Pro Women are age-qualified for Master's and can now elect to play in that division if they so wish. In addition, on July 16th when registration opens to any player with SN Pro points, additional women can grab spots in the 144-player field.

Opinion/Debate:

A request was tendered to me this weekend by some of the grandmasters playing at Mississippi States to be allowed to play shorter tees at the Championships. I will summarize the reasons I had for making the decision to have them play the same tees as the Pros & Masters and will also summarize some of the reasons I heard to the contrary. Then I would appreciate input (especially from the grandmasters) on what tees they would like to play.

Reasons for:

1) If the Grandmasters don't play the same tees they are not eligible to compete for the slots for USDGC.

2) The grandmasters will already be playing the vast majority of their tournament holes on the same tees anyway. At the University of South Alabama, all divisions will play the same tees. At Hobbitt, only Hole 1 will be different. At Cottage Hill there are five blue tees on Holes 2, 9, 10, 11 & 12. IMHO the difference is fairly minor on those holes. The character of the holes doesn't change it just lengthens the holes by 30' - 50'. Pretty much the same shot, though. That leaves Municipal. The grandmasters could play the White Tee on 1 instead of the Blue, although the blue isn't that hard of a hole. I will be putting shorter tees for the women's division on Holes 2, 3, 8, 15. If the grandmasters played all of those tees it would amount to 11 different tees out of 72 tournament holes (with pretty minor differences on six of those).

3) Less complicated TD reporting (vested self interest).

Reasons against (this is what I heard as reasons for playing shorter tees):

1) If the top flight grandmasters want to play for a USDGC slot they can step up to Masters or Open.

2) Most Grandmasters are Pros in name only because we play for money but are mostly out to have a good time with friendly competition.

3) Skill level has decreased and degraded physical conditioning makes it hard to play long layout.

If I missed some of the arguments against or I mischaracterized them, please set me straight.

Are all the holes layed out the same as we played for the Mobile Doubles tourney or just the noted ones?

chris_lasonde
Jun 27 2006, 12:02 PM
Mostly the same, Jake. The exceptions are:

Hole 5 will play from the White Tee. (The OB line on the edge of the layup island from the blue tee is hard police and judge. The White takes some of the risk of a first OB stroke out of the hole, but should speed play considerably without taking the teeth out of the hole.

Hole 9: At Doubles we played to regular 10 basket ... this will play to the alternate 10.

Hole 13: (Plane Hole) This will play from a back tee we used for City of Mobile Championships in March.

Hole 15: One Hole will cover the length of the "island." We had it set up as two holes for the doubles.

Hole 17: This will play to the longer alternate basket.

Two reminders:

Saturday is the final day for reserved invitees to register for this tournament. On July 16th all bets are off and anyone with SN PRO points can register. There are 144 slots and the field is just under half filled at this point.

I will be very surprised if this tournament does not fill quite quickly after Saturday as I have had inquiries from all over the map from all the nooks and crannies that the SN Tournament Series touches.

Also, August 1 is that last day to reserve your room at the host hotel under the disc golf discount. Information for the host hotel is further up thread (and was included with the invites for those that got them). Please take advantage of this hotel as it will be the central location for a lot of the ancillary events connected to the Am & Pro Championships.

Note: Six weeks out and the concurrent Am tournament is already more than half full (103 registered out of 180 spots). I realize that with MSDGC the week before in Massachusetts and the West Virginia Open (great tournament, I miss it) the week of, a lot of touring players may think the drive too far.

I also know, between you, me and the lampost, that there tends to be an undercurrent of feeling among serious players that the Southern Nationals is a bit on the fly-by-night side. I will be the first to admit the the Southern Nationals is a slightly different animal ... family-oriented, tight knit, insular at times ... but you will not be disappointed if you choose to attend this event either in terms of courses, professionalism, extras, or especially payout.

I have been watching with interest as the entry fees on tour have skyrocketed. If this event fills all 144 spots (we had 105 pros last year three days after Katrina swept through Mississippi) we will have a pro payout in excess of $22,500. That does not include additional sponsorship money that is only now beginning to really roll in the front door. Consider the free lunches, consider Friday doubles, host hotel with a full breakfast thrown in each day, player's pack to early registrants, four great courses, awesome trophies, USDGC spots, Player's cup qualifying, PDGA B-Tier (in name only), skills, long drive and putting competitions, flymart, forum discussion and awards ceremony. For an open entry fee of $80 and other divisional entry fees of $70, that's a lot of bang for your buck.

I run a transparent operation financially and when the award ceremony is concluded on Sunday, September 3, and the last envelope stuffed with cash and the last USDGC spot are handed out, the till will be empty.

We were extremely excited last year to have players like Barry and Burl pit their skills against SN regulars like Matt Orum and Dean Tannock ... we hope to build on that success in our 10th anniversary year by exposing even more qualified touring players to our brand of Southern disc golf hospitality.

A note on the trophies:

Trophies will be awarded to First, second and Third in all divisions. The trophies are being crafted by Dave from Display Your Disc in the great state of Washington.

Champions will receive a full-sized wooden Aviar crafted from Bird's Eye Maple with the tournament logo, placement and division laser engraved on the flight plane.

2nd Place finishers will be getting a San Marino Roc from a reddish wood (likely either mahogany or cherry) Bird's Eye Maple with the tournament logo, placement and division laser engraved on the flight plane.

3rd Place will receive an original Eagle from Yellow Heart Bird's Eye Maple with the tournament logo, placement and division laser engraved on the flight plane.

Anyone finishing in fourth will be kicking themselves for missing that last 25-footer.

Trophies sound sweet Chris! Yes, amazingly enough I also swim in the waters of the PDGA forum. (And you thought Russ was the only one that came over here.)

This really is going to be a great event. The variety of courses being played will test every part of your game. The funds generated for the payouts are getting to the level of stupid amazing. Don't miss this tournament! I'm driving 5 hours to it, but I would drive 15+ if needed to make sure I didn't miss it.

Well I'm not driving 15 hours, but I don't mind the 8 hour drive; because after playing in the City of Mobile Championships earlier this year, meeting and talking to the Tournament Director and playing the national level courses in town, I was sold that Mobile was poised to host a "national championship" event. Even if I have to skip several local B&C tiers later this year. This Southener will be in Mobile come September.

A reminder that August 1 is the last day to make reservations at the host hotel using the keyword SNDGC to get the discounted rates. There are only 18 rooms available from the original block we contracted for. I have asked if they can block out some more rooms, but as it is a long holiday weekend, I am unsure if they will spare them.

If you even think you may be attending this event, I would suggest making your reservation now. (Hotel contact info is up-thread).

chris_lasonde
Jul 28 2006, 11:38 AM
Also ... I got a pull of the reservations from the hotel and noticed that the following people had received a reservation rate higher than that for which we contracted:

Kenny Heckathorn
Joey VanDuzee
Lisa Ursery
Bridget Daigle

All of the rooms in question were for suites. Our contracted rate on the suites was $96/night and the rates for these people ranged from $101 to $111.

Also:

Lisa Burton
Liza Legrand
Jeff Martin

These peope received rates above the $72 we contracted for the deluxe doubles or kings (so defined because they are on the atrium/pool side of the hotel).

If you are or know one of these people please have them call the hotel back at their convenience and make sure there reservation is changed to reflect the correct rate.

Also looking at the pull list from the hotel, six of the eight blocked out suites have been taken, so only two remain

Arriving Today!

97 Black DX Aviar Putters ($8)
50 Purple DX Purple Cobras ($8)
25 I-Dyed Champion Sidewinder ($17)
25 Colored Star Wraiths ($16)

These discs will be on sale to raise additional money for the championships.

If those golfers who purchased the seven disc set will let me know if they want an Aviar or a Cobra I will set those discs aside. (This is the fifth disc in the set. The sixth will be your choice of either a Proline Squall or Proline Tsunami w/the tournament stamp. The seventh will be a brand new ESP disc from Discraft called the Pulse, also with the tournament stamp (either full color or hotstamp, waiting on test results).

Anyone wanting one of these discs let me know and I will set it aside.

A reminder ... the pro tournament is filling more slowly than the am tournament which is well over half full.

I am NOT accepting pre-registration for this tournament, however. There are a lot of players who have not yet registered who have indicated they are going to play (more than 30 here in Mobile alone).

There will be absolutely no registration on Saturday, Sept. 2 for this event. The field is capped at 144. When and if we fill, I will start a waiting list. If you want to wait and register on Friday, Sept 1, you risk not getting in to this tournament. Players who want to secure their spot can do so in one of two ways;

By mail, send check or money order to SNPC, 5400 Springhill Woods Drive, Mobile, AL 36608. Please include address, phone number, e-mail, division you will be playing in and if you want any of the fundraiser discs.

On line through Marshall Street Disc Golf at the following address:

OK ... today was the last day to make reservations at the host hotel but because the rooms have moved so well (thank you, thank you, thank you) I have gotten an extension until Aug 15 with the same prices. Don't wait forever though, because the number of rooms allocated to the tournament is shrinking and some room types may be in short supply. For instance I believe there is only one suite left from the original complement of eight.

I had received a question on the sndgorg forum thread on the Pro Championships concerning the Final Six and how it would affect USDGC bids (since it will be an additional six holes played only by the top 4 Open and ties).

I have talked with both Jonathan Poole from Innova/USDGC and David Gentry, PDGA Tour Director about the Final 6. Both concurred with my suggestion that USDGC bids be based on standings after the completion of the fourth round.

So, the final six holes will be a continuation of the tournament for the top 4 Open players and ties. These six holes will be at Municipal Park 30 minutes after completion of the final round. The holes are as follows:

Hole 2 from the Round 4 layout (Par 4)
Hole 3 from the Round 4 layout (Par 4)
Hole 5 from the Blue Tee (Par 4)
Hole 8 from the Blue Tee to Hole 9 Regular Basket (Par 5)
Hole 10 from the White Tee to Hole 11 Alternate Basket (Par 4)
Temp Tee adjacent to Hole 11 Alt basket to the Center of the Pavillion.

The total Pro Payout for this event is shaping up beautifully ... to pilfer a political cliche ... if the election/tournament were held today, the pro payout for the 48 registered players would be just a hair under $20K (or $408 each for an entry fee of $80/Open and $70 all other divisions). If we can fill the pro field (144 player cap) the total cash payout (not including trophies which are already paid for) would be at least $26,000 (which brings the average per entrant down to $180 ... still a respectable 225% @ the $80 entry fee level).

We added another $3,250 to the total purse (combined Pro & Am) over the past weekend thanks in large part to the concerted efforts of the Southside gang whose tournament fundraising efforts will add $250 cash to 1st Place Open, $250 to the Pro purse in general and will make the combined ancillary purse for the skills competition on Saturday afternoon to around $2,500.

The Skills competition, by the way, includes diriving accuracy (total distance from the pin for three drives), putting from five stations and approach accuracy from three different stations to a bullseye target. It is open to everyone in the tournament and will be contested in the following divisions:

Pro Men
Pro Women
Amateur Men
Amateur Women
Juniors

Are you going for the record of Best B-Tier ever or what? That's some serious cash. I'm amazed you haven't already filled.

chris_lasonde
Aug 15 2006, 12:19 PM
Thanks for the kind words, Brad ... yes, there will be some serious cash ... as far as filling, I have no way to predict at this moment. I believe the Southern National Pro Championship is somewhat of an unknown quantity outside our geographic area. Many of the touring pros may be a bit unsure about the quality of the event and/or the courses that will be played. There may be some understandable hesitation that is naturally part and parcel of growing a tournament (and a tournament series).

I have tried to make this 10th anniversary season a watershed year for Southern Nationals ... a year to build on the foundation. That is one of the reasons we are so high on the forum during the player's party Saturday that will include David Gentry and Jonathan Poole.

We will fill the Am Championship ... we already have more players registered with three weeks to go than have ever played. I have a feeling the Pro side may fill as well, as I got 11 calls yesterday from open players with 1000+ ratings ... one way or another this tournament is appearing on the radar. There are another 40+ pro players who have already indicated they will be registering within the next week. The fact that it is (in conjunction with the West Virginia Open, which is already full) the last USDGC qualifier and a 2007 Player's Cup Qualifier as well is but an added bonus.

I do know all the pieces are in place for one great disc golf weekend ... one from which no one will go home complaining about the courses, the amenities or (bottom line) the A-Tier payout at a B-Tier event.

Today is the first day that anyone with Southern National points can sign up for the Pro Tournament ... meaning that players with only Am points can sign up. In past years when the tournaments were not being run concurrently this might have been more of a drawing card. I expect most ams will "stay at home" this year, but if any of you rising advanced players want to step in against the big guns on the big courses and quit playing around in the kiddie pool, here's your chance.

Tidbits:

I have registered three 1000+ players out of Texas alone in the last two days.

A little birdie whispered to me that some guy named Nate had expressed an interest in coming down. While this gentleman doesn't have any Southern National points, he does play under sponsorship for a major equipment manufacturer which has more than passed the $1,000 sponsorship level required for a pro sponsor exemption. I have no way to substantitate this rumor, so take it with salt and Cuervo.

I will be doing player's packs for those pros who have registered either by mail or on-line by August 25th, which is also the cut-off date for on-line registration through Marshall Street Disc Golf as well as the cut off date for mailing your registration.

chris_lasonde
Aug 16 2006, 01:10 PM
By tradition, groups are assigned for the first round of the tournament based on the Southern National points they accumulated during the season.

Players with no SN points (in on a sponsor exemption) go to the bottom of the final card. Players with no points in the division in which they are competing (i.e. someone who played open all year but is competing in Pro Grandmaster at the Championship) come next on the pecking order.

Thus, the Open group teeing from the first tee at Cottage Hill on Saturday, Sept. 3 will be:

Todd Alexander
Tony Bass
Matt Orum
Chad Smith

I have been getting a lot of calls from players wondering if they are qualified for this event. To qualify you must have played in at least one Southern National qualifier between June 1, 2005 and May 31, 2006. There were 102 SN tournaments during that period.

Please note that if you do not have any Southern National points during the requisite period the only other way to get in this tournament is through a sponsor's exemption. For the pro championships the level of sponsoroship is $1,000.

If you want to check if you are qualified you can go to this address:

SN Player Page (http://sndg.org/stats/players.php)

or, you can find your name on the list below (note, some names appear more than once if the individuals played in more than one division at different tournaments. note also, that it is sorted by division and then by first name).

If you don't see you name that means you are already registered (unless you played in another division as well)

Special thanks to the Southside gang here in Mobile who handed me $803 in cash last night, $250 of which they earmarked to go directly into the Open Champion's already bulky envelope.

... FREE LUNCHES!

Godfather's stepped up to the plate with a bunch of free pizzas to flesh out the final free lunch for players at the Southern National Championships.

That's the good news. The bad news is:

1) Y'all pros will have to cope with pizza both days ... sorry.
2) The Ams get the Hooter girls on Saturday.

A reminder that Friday, August 25 is the drop dead date for either mailing registrations or registering on-line. After that you will have to take your chances on registering during Check-In at the Host Hotel on Friday, September 1.

Only players registering before the August 25th deadline will receive a player's pack.

Current as of 8/21 ... I have another 26 players in various divisions who have told me they will register by Friday ... another 30-40 who have expressed interest ... and about 100 who wish they had Southern National points ... don't forget that the pro tournament is just part of the mix ... I only have about 35 spots left in the 180-player am field ... gonna be one great disc golf weekend ...

In news, our defending Open Champ will not be attending this year's event. I got an e-mail from Barry Schultz this morning and he has decided not to come ... something about wanting to play disc golf in Massachusetts for the rest of his career.

In still other news, Innova's Jonathan Poole, who will be one of the featured speakers at the forum held in conjunction with the flymart/player's party will be presenting the five USDGC bids earned by players at the awards ceremony on Sunday night.

Finally, Innova, whose sponsorship value to the championships is in excess of $5,000 has nominated Kevin McCoy & Courtney Peavy as its sponsor exemptions. I have spoken with Southern National board members and we have a go. Kevin & Courtney are true pros and have played SN events in previous years. Anyone who attended Am Worlds this year (or has ever TD'd a big event), will know why they had difficulty making one this past season.

My understanding from Steve Dodge at Marshall Street is that this Friday will be the last day for on-line registration. It is probably also the last day to stick something in the mail and be sure it will get to me. We will be taking registration at the host hotel on Friday, September 1 during player check-in between 3 p.m. and 9 p.m.

I will play next week by ear ... in other words, if you give me a call and tell me you're coming and you sound sincere I might be persuaded to hold you a spot ... really, I'm pretty easy. The Am tournament will likely be filled (180 players) by the end of this week, but the Pros look like they may go down to the wire so that may be the best way to do it.

Today is the final day to register online through Marshall Street Disc Golf:

SNPC Registration (http://www.msdgc.com/register/products.asp?id=10)

Registration for this tournament is on a first-come, first-served basis for anyone with Southern National points earned between June 1, 2005 and May 31, 2006.

<font color="red"> THERE WILL BE NO REGISTRATION ON SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 2 </font>

Registration for this tournament closes at 9 p.m., Friday, September 1. If you don't live in Mobile and can't track me down next week, I highly recommend registering on-line today.

If you are planning on driving down on Saturday and playing in the tournament and you haven't registered ... well ... I can always use spotters.

chris_lasonde
Aug 25 2006, 10:13 AM
BTW, while the AM Championship is not PDGA, it will also have a $20,000+ payout and player's packs for every player worth more than $50 (max entry fee is $50 for Advanced Men). If you have Ams with Southern National points who want to attend this event, I only have 27 spots left in the 180-player field.

I expect this field will be full by Monday. Interested players can also register for the Am tournament through Marshall Street using the same link in the post above.

There is NO REGISTRATION ON SATURDAY

Your last chance to register for this tournament is between 3 p.m. and 9 p.m. at the Host Hotel on Friday.

Our Course Tweaking Committee will be at Cottage Hill Park this afternoon, Hobbit Park on Wednesday and Chicksabogue Park on Thursday. My cell phone number is (251) 401-2291 and you may get lucky and catch me taking a break from the heat and swilling Gatorade in my truck.

There are still about 40 spots in the Pro championship and about 15 in the Am championship ... 20 more players and we will top 300.

two questions.
1) does Brad have to decide which division by Friday? take on the bigger field like JoeThacker, easy choice.

2) any local breweries, micro-brews, stores with imported beers? thanks Chris!

Hey Bryan, Alabama has some of the most archaic alcohol (beer) laws in the country. Max 6% alcohol and max 16 oz container. If you want anything more exotic than Bass, Stella, Sierra Nevada, Newcastle, etc., you'd better bring it from home. Do you guys get Shiner '96? I'll throw in a few Fat Tires for you! See you in Mobile.

There was some cash to give away tonight!

Matt Orum took home $2100 and a dominating win.
Tony Bass and Joe Thacker tied for second - $1200 each

World Champ Brad Hammock ($1225) won by nine over Buddy Pacatte and Jack White in Masters.

Lavone Wolfe takes the Grandmaster field.

Courtney Peavy wins easily in Mobile. Emily Lawrence second.

Robin Adams in Master Women.

Results for the Pros are up on the PDGA site. First place Open took home $2100. Total Pro Purse was $21,300 or thereabouts.

Matt-o takes his first Southern National Open Crown shooting two course records in the process. Beautiful weather, lots of added value, great press coverage.

267 players total attended the event. I think we had 110 pros with 58 open. Total payout including the Am Tournament and added value of trophies, players packs, free lunches, and ancillary events was more than $50,000.

Joe Thacker, Tony Bass, Bryan Moore, Rick Chriswell and Shane Seal earned USDGC spots. I qualified last year in what I thought was the "hard" way by earning it on the course. A lot of people grinned knowingly at me throughout the months leading up to this event thinking I was getting a free ride by TD'ing the tournament. LOLOLOL. This was far, far tougher.

Special thaks to all our sponsors who added in so many ways and especially to David Gentry and Jonathan Poole who gave up weekend to come see the Southern Nationals in action.

Ask the participants about this event because Mobile will likely be running the Pro Championships next year. I think it was Joe Thacker who said we should think about bidding for Worlds in the not to distant future. Put it on your calendar.

Happy 10th SN!

Amazing payout for only a B tier. Wasn't this an A-Tier previously?

Nah, it has always been a B-tier. The reality is that the only reason it has been sanctioned at all in the past has been to assure a USDGC spot. It was good to see the PDGA make a visit to the tournament and discuss some issues that can help grow each tournament series.

In truth, this tournament is now an A-Tier in B-Tier clothing because sanctioning as an A-Tier would require participants to be PDGA members. Although I was running around like the proverbial headless chicken, I heard there was substantive discussion in the forum room. I know that the movers and shakers for the SN Tournament Series were in there and welcomed the opportunity to try to find some middle ground on the current PDGA tournament-related fees that would allow the SN Tour and the PDGA to grow together throughout the region.

Chris,

I would argue slightly with your assessment as an A-tier in B-tier clothing. When I ran it at Poplarville, we were approached about making it a NT event. The payout is certainly closer to a NT event than an A-tier. Don't sell it short baby! Consistently listed in the top 15 tournament payouts in the world puts you in special company :)
NT in B-tier clothing is certainly more accurate.

I checked and almost all NTs are under $15,000 so great job guys. I wish I could have been there since I played well this weekend in Round Rock and the $$$ would've been twice as much in mobile.

btw that am payout, counting only the face value of the trophy discs, the board-approved fair market value of the prize packages and the board approved fair market value of the player packs was $26,831!

Just a little more nudging (like 75 pro player packs at $30 apiece and I will easily have this tournament over $50,000 ... not counting the free lunches (Thanks, Hooter Girls!) or the distance or the doubles or the players party or the skills comp (payout @ 2,600+) ... thanks to everyone that helped make this one of the most indelible, incredible experiences of my life.

Yeah, I hated to see that you couldn't make it. Maybe you could have finished with some cash like Donald and JD. It was good to see the Texas crew back over. Two in the top 15 isn't bad. Alabama had 2 in the top 5, followed by MS with 3 in the top 10. Not a bad showing at all. Congrats to everyone. Shooting 990 golf would have got you in the top 15 I think /msgboard/images/graemlins/ooo.gif What tournament was in Round Rock?

Outlaws singles and I used last years results which showed that I shot about 1025 for the weekend. I had a good 1050+ round

What about me!!

I beat Donald and JD and I am from Texas. :(

And I would say that those Alabama boys don't like playing on wide open courses, because I was in 52nd place after the tight wooded course and I finished in 12the place after a 53 on the 8000ft course.

Tennessee or Memphis to be more exact had two in the Top 10 as well with Ricky Chriswell and Todd Alexander. Ricky qualifies for the U.S. Open!

thanks for the many hours to the staff Mike and Chris who did a wonderful job hosting the SN family for the pro am championships.

Big congrats to MAttO, I didn't doubt it for a second and it was really fun to watch him put together solid rounds and bring home his first SNPC. Great shooting Joe with a clutch par putt on the final hole and TonyB, also RickCwell who has a bright future, it was a spirited finals and an experience I will not soon forget.

I hope it's not just a rumor......Mobile in 2007 SNPC!!!!!

The Mobile Area Disc Golf Association received almost universally rave reviews for the courses, player amenities and competition provided during the 10th Southern National Pro Championships held over Labor Day weekend.

As any who attended know, we held the Pro & Am championships concurrently with 267 disc golfers in the house playing on six courses.

Due to the success of the event, MADGA will be doing it again on Labor Day weekend 2007. This year we will not have the Ams in the house and will be able to focus all our attention on the Pros.

Please make plans now to attend at least one Southern National Tournament Series Event between now and May 31, 2007 to ensure you are qualified to participate. A full list of the SN Series events are listed at sndg.org under the schedule tab (Link below). Last year there were 110 qualifiers in 17 states.

As anyone knows who has looked at the payout, we did pretty darn good for a lowly B-Tier, paying out more than $21,000 in cold hard cash not counting the ancillary events, the free lunches (Hooter Girls) and the player packs. For an entry fee of $80 (which we expect will remain unchanged in 2007) that's more bang for your buck than you are likely to find at 99% of the other tournaments you might consider putting on your touring calendar.

The Southern National Board will likely run advertisments in DGWN and Disc Golf Magazine over the coming year touting the series, but I will stop back from time to time to remind players on how to qualify.

Thanks to all the great sponsors who helped us make this tournament such a quality event and especially thanks to the players who travelled to Mobile and took part in the biggest Mobile tournament ever ... that is until 2007.
