I have been looking for a few minutes for information on this and I can't seem to locate any. What is the key to the double weighting of recent rounds. Someone told me it is your most recent 8 rounds that get double weighted, but that wouldn't seem to be as accurate overall as using a percentage scale, like most recent 10% or something.
Can someone verify for me the actual formula for the double weighting please. Thank you.

It's your most recent 25%.

Ok, so I just ran some figures and found out that my highest rated round of 1044 is going to be my eighth oldest round. And I am only going to have 28 rounds counted in the next update. Meaning that my 1044 round will be not be double weighted! That sucks!

chuck can provdie the details, but iof that 1044 round is in the same event as you rounds #5-7 then they will use the highest rated round from the event - therefore it WILL count.

That's correct. If the math works out that only 1 of 2-4, 2 of 3-4, or 3 of 4 rounds should be double weighted from an event, we use the highest rated ones even if they were the early round(s).

Unfortunately, it is a different event. My 1-7 rounds (top 25%) are from the Golden State Classic, and Beaver State Fling tournaments only. Boo! Oh well, I still have a 9-10 point increase coming in the next update. I think that double weighting the 1044 would have made it a 12 point or more increase. Can't get too greedy I guess.

It's your most recent 25%.
or 29.4% -- i had 5 out of my 17 most recent rounds double-weighted last time i had a ratings change (whereas had 4 out of my last 17 rounds (23.5%) been doubled i would have been rated 2 points higher) /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Does the formula change every update?
it has for the recent updates, but was fairly stable prior to that. the changes have been good, but hopefully it will settle down now and stay the same for the foreseeable future. but i am not in charge.

2005 was the year when our accumulated list of ideas for improvements were introduced a few at a time to check them out and make sure there wasn't a major disruption in the system. At this point, we don't have any issues to deal with that we've heard from members or changes planned other than possibly completely removing the small SSA boost still remaining from 2005. However, if we decide to do it, it won't be until April 2007. The formula could finally be stable for quite a while now.
The only nagging issue that doesn't impact the formula is whether we need to do something to handle stagger start (tee time) rounds that extend over a full day when weather throughout some days might vary greatly.

yeah i was wondering how you deal with those. ugly! haha, i bet those discussions are fun :) i'd say dont worry about it and just treat it like the same round. otherwise those tee-time rounds will run the risk of never being counted. in the overall scheme of things, will it make much real difference if one roiund started 4 hours after the other?

I think you need to do something about it. My best rated round ever (1024) from the Memorial was played in the morning with no wind. It was a great round with no mistakes, no give-away putts, a few fortunate breaks, and a few really good putts. I played MM1 and the MA1s played in the afternoon in a pretty good breeze. That combo pumped my rated round up a bunch.
It felt like a great round for me, but I was guessing 985 to 990 tops. Maybe a 995 since at least two long "5% chance, 95% safe" putts went in.

Chuck what procedure is used to calculate the most recent 25%? if i have 21 rounds, is it safe to figure that 5 rounds will be double-weighted?
ck34

It's 25% rounded up. If you have 18 thru 21 rounds, 5 are doubled.

so why were 5 rounds of 17 double-weighted then last time i had a ratings update  was the RJ vs. CK rule more than just a joke?
should i have been propagating as a 948 rated disc golfer rather than as a 946 all this time?

I was incorrect. Roger says that 5 rounds are doubled from 17 thru 20 rounds. From 21 thru 24, 6 would be doubled, etc.

so, then 25 to 29+% of the most recent rounds are double weighted. i predict my rating will be 964 with the next update* (whether it is 5 of 21 or 6 of 21 won't matter)
*unless one or both of my sub-900 rounds gets dropped /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
i calculate 2.5 times the Standard Deviation for me to be 78.2 so it looks like my 883 round will get dropped so i think that makes my rating to be: 967 ... or 968 ... (i'm not sure if having a round dropped means my total counts as 20 rounds instead of 21 so 5 are double weighted - if so that would yield the extra point) :D

I have played only one tournament this year. Do my ratings stay the same till I play again ?

Yes, assuming the event you played this year was already rated in the April update.

Chuck....Is it possible you could show in our ratings detail exactly which rounds were double weighted each update? Maybe with an asterisk or something.

Good idea. However, there are several things we'd like to get done before we could get to that. Unfortunately, I can't do the online programming projects and have to rely on the schedules of our IT volunteers. In the meantime, the process of doubling is straightforward. It's your most recent 25% of your rounds rounded up. For example, if you have 13, 14, 15 or 16 rounds, 4 will be doubled. If one or more of the rounds to be doubled are in the same event, your best rated rounds are used. It still might not match our calculations even if you know which ones are doubled because the round ratings you see online have already been rounded. We do the calculations with the actual round ratings to determine your rating which will result in numbers one or two points different from yours at times.
