It's been confirmed! A new course will be installed soon about 20 miles southwest of Amarillo. The High Plains Baptist Church Camp got the funding approved today for a new 9 hole course to be installed on their property (approx. 340 acres, plenty of room). At first it will be set up for beginners and kids that use the camp facility, but eventually it will be opened for all the Disc Golfing public to use. I'm pretty sure it will be pay-to-play ($1.50 to get in the gate), but with the quality of the property we will have a very nice course to play. It is set in a canyon (not as large a canyon as Palo Duro Canyon, but some good elevation changes) with a lot of trees lining a dry creek bed. Most of the property is mowed regularly, and some of it is left natural for the wildlife. Lots of wild turkeys and deer. More news soon!

I did the first walk-through yesterday. Lots of good potential. Baskets are to be ordered today! The tee areas will be natural, with railroad cross-ties for the front and side lines. Preliminary plan is to set the course up for kids and beginners, with pro tees comming later. Some good elevation to work with, look for one or two long open downhill shots. The dry creek is looks inviting for a couple of tight, technical shots.
There are a lot of wild turkeys in this area, and I saw 7 deer (Mule Deer, I think).

DeLynn and I went out there Monday to do another walk-through and maybe get more ideas. She was very impressed with this property. There is a LOT of room to set up some really LONGGGGG holes, and the dry creek bed could make for some really interesting technical shots with tight, multi-twisting fairways. At first, the course will be designed for kids and beginners. As interest grows, we will set up longer tees for the more advanced players. The course will be available for anyone to play most of the year. However, when there are school age kids there for camp, the facility will be closed to the public. I think they said two or three weekends a summer they will have church camp for kids.
The camp manager has already committed to giving every kid that comes out there for camp a free disc. They won't be the newest, fastest, pro line discs, but getting discs in the kids hands to use is great! They have several activities for the campers on the property (archery range, swimming pool, basketball, etc..), so a Disc Golf course will fit in perfectly.
