Lake Olmstead is getting CONCRETE Tees this week!

Who from Charlotte is going?

I am. The Beav is. Trey Johnson is thinking about it.

Johansen? There's 2 courses, so all you ams, it's only 2.5 hours from Charlotte. Pack in a car and head on down! Hippodrome is a Renny of a different color. We've got the advantage!

DISConcepts completed pouring 12 concrete tee pads at Lake Olmstead over the last few days and will pour the last 6 (weather depending) early next week. The new pads are 12’ long trapezoids with 6’ backs and 4’ fronts. They look sweet, and will be back-filled around the edges over the next few weeks to provide a great addition to this wonderful course. Look for DISConcepts concrete pads on the Lake Olmstead 2006 Pro Worlds tournament headquarters course and DISConcepts Launch Pads on the Hippodrome course. Anyway you look at it; EVERY course deserves nice tee pads! If your disc golf course is looking for new pads (concrete, rubber, paver or other), upgrades to smaller pads poured years ago, or just looking for options on what is available; please give me (Pat Farrell) a call at 864-270-3723. We try our hard to provide quality products, friendly service, and options to fit each individual course budget. See you in Augusta this summer! Go Launch a DISC!!!

You found me! Yes, I have also been pouring pads at the North course (IDGC) along with logging 200+ hours on a bobcat clearing fairways. I’m interested in hosting an event at Tupelo Bay (Myrtle Beach) in December but have not put any solid plans together. Won’t be making the Augusta Classic, as I will be spending some time with my family. Anyone that has not played the Lake Olmstead course should really check it out. Brain and Pete have done an amazing job putting the layout together. Lakefront, elevation changes, large trees, fast greens, and new tees! Team Augusta has a done a great job getting multiple disc golf courses into the area and should be proud of their success.

1 Day C-Tier at Inland Greens!!!!!!!!!!!! Please put that one together. What a fun course, we have enjoyed it as it provides such a different alternative to the Castle.

Theres no better way to celebrate the 1 year anniversary.

Thanks for the kind words Tom! All 18 concrete tee pads were completed over the last few days on schedule and are ready for the Augusta Classic. If any of the blue tarps are still covering the pads, feel free to remove. 13 of the 18 pads were backfilled with topsoil but a few still need some work (pads were not quite dry to complete on Thursday). If any of the Augusta disc golfers wanted to help shovel some dirt, that would be great. Topsoil is located next to the ball field by hole #2. Holes that could use more dirt would be 7, 11, 12, 13, 16, and 18. 5 or 6 wheelbarrows to the back of each should be plenty.
Thanks!

Looks like the Hippodrome is going to be quite a challenge for Pro Worlds looking at the scores. SSA is coming in at 63+ on a par 64 course with McCray now holding the current record at 56. We'll see how the new and improved Olmstead with cement pads holds up to the onslaught of the pros tomorrow.

Had a fun time. Even had fun my last round, after ripping my knee up on a teepad that, like all the pads at Lake Olmstead, need to be back and front filled to prevent injuries. I was throwing a sidearm, standing still, when my foot lifted slightly and I guess (though I am not sure) stepped off the front of the pad, spun around and ground my knee into the corner of one of these new pads, which are about 4-6 inches off the ground. Most have a "ramp" on the back, but there is no room for follow through on any of them. Please fill these in ASAP. Local players are going to injure themselves on them, probably worse than my hamburger knee. I think this should be a first priority. Safety FIRST.

I did it about 10 minutes before the final round, and was able to play the final round. Actually carded a string of 5 birdies. Fun courses, fun town. Get those teepads built up. I can't stress it enough. I heard about an Am doing the same thing on Saturday. I have never fallen on a teepad before, and I don't plan on doing it again.... It's just not very fun.

The tee pads at Lake Olmstead were installed just last week and will most definitely be backfilled on all sides. Pat Farrell worked overtime to install them and have them ready for play in the Augusta Classic. Time allowed him only to backfill the backs of the pads prior to the tournament. The texturing job he did was awesome and we look forward to finishing them soon.

Tournament results, preliminary round ratings and payout are posted here. (http://www.pdga.com/tournament/tournament_results.php?TournID=5631&year=2006&incl udeRatings=1#Open) Pros played rounds 1 and 2 at the new Hippodrome course and rounds 3 and 4 at Lake Olmstead Park. John McCray establishes the course record at the Hippodrome with a -8 (1053 rated round). Dean Tannock sets a new course record at Lake Olmstead with a -9 (1067 rated round) in round 4 to edge out John McCray by one stroke.

The Hippodrome course received very good reviews from all of the players. We learned a lot about the course layouts this weekend and adjustments will continue to be made to improve holes at all of the courses in preparation for the Worlds.

Special thanks to Dave Gentry and Matt Gillis of the PDGA for running the event. As I said at the awards ceremony, "I never thought I'd see the day that two carpet bagging yankees would be running the Augusta Classic". :DThey did a great job!

I meant no disrespect to Pat, as the pads really were great. I especially liked his tedious but effective texturing technique, dragging a single marker flag metal wire across the pad individually, it makes for a unique effect that is still smooth. Can you get a bunch of railroad ties to use as a backfill frame around the pads? They do a good job of containing the backfill, otherwise rain and traffic end up kicking the backfill away from the pads. I noticed lots of ties were used in the park around the backs of trees that were on the roadside. Maybe there's access to some for finishing off the pads.

The pads are a definite bonus to the course.

Knee is doing ok today.
