"The USGA announced that they have received five sets of balls from manufacturers submitted for research into hypothetically reducing the distance standard by 15 yards and 25 yards from the current Overall Distance Standard. Testing is scheduled for this summer and fall."

Looks like the USGA is trying to stop the upward creep of driving distance which is costing millions in course redesign projects. Should disc golf be considering a similar cap or restrictions?

NO!

Further, the USGA has almost **ZERO** impact on real golf, as it's played on TV. The USGA is in charge of the US Open, and then the rest of the AM events.

This is just lip service. Sponsors won't let this thing through - the average duffer can't compress a ProV1 like Vijay can, so while they see SOME improvement with the new tech, it's not making courses useless like Medina as a major championship venue.

Mostly, the only effect weekend golfers see from new golf ball tech is lighter wallets, increased frustration, and larger ego. My Top-Flite goes as far as your Titliest ANYDAY!

The Valkyrie holds the world distance record. Despite all of the phenomenally far and fast new drivers in production. The Valk.

Answer: No.

Well it may cost a golf course millions to move their pins. It cost us $25 for a new sleeve.

1 Bag of quickrete $3
Bucket of water $0

Yeah and that was pretty much a fluke. Huge winds. To compare discs, you have to have 0 other dependent variables (ie: the same wind conditions).

I dont think that a cap on distance, but should be put on how many new discs come out. there are new discs every month now and it is hard to keep up with them all and can be a problem. To some people.

When speaking of the world distance record in disc golf, we must remeber two huge factors here. The throws were done on a dry, flat desert floor at 3,500 feet of elevation and TONS of updraft from the heating of the rocky desert floor. Something we do not have on any competitive disc golf course. Also as was stated earlier the winds were blowing like 20-25 mph that day also. The average "golf shot" throw(big arms included) is still only at best 425-450'. I don't see anybody throwing accurate 550-600' "golf shots" anytime soon. So I doubt disc golf will have the same issues as ball golf is, regardless of cost. Even with the huge advances in disc technology. Also I would like to point out(as far as Big D goes) those same dudes that were hucking 800 out in the desert are hardly cracking 600 on a level grassy surface closer to sea level. I am not downplaying their accomlishments, just a fact.

P.S. In regards to M1000's question about third best throw, I belive it was Chris Voigt was a few meters behind Ken that day. :o
