Well, last years scores are no where to be found :( I will keep looking, but it looks pretty bleak. Is there any info in particular you were looking for? Maybe trying to figure out what Div. to play? If they turn up, I will post them here.
Cal Young is not a bad course. SSA is 47-48. The wind is a factor most of the time. Rd. 1 will be the regular course. Rd. 2 will be our new 'B' course (basically, its the course backwards.....almost pin to pin...but, not quite). Rd. 3 will be the hangover friendly "Aceville" course (pitch and putt setup). And the Final 9 at Will Hair park (9 hole course.....but, possibly setup a little tougher). Hope you can make it. This is our first sanctioned event in 5 years; we are trying to get Abilene Disc Golf back on the map. Come join in the fun!!
Also, I am working on a hotel deal...not having much luck so far (at least, not for the price I want). I will post whatever the best deal is I can come up with....Im trying to find something less than $50. Stay tuned...

I'll print and post here in Lubbock (and pass a bunch out in travels). I had a Dallas trip planned post BAB, prior Wild, and figured I could actually play a tourney. Well, I was TOLD I had to head to Dallas next week instead. Ohhh, my whiplash schedule...

I updated the flyer with 2 Womens divisions and an Ace Pot of $5. Now, I know thats a little high for an ace pot, but its all because of Rd. 3. Rd 3 is known as our hang-over friendly "ACEVILLE" Rd (pitch-n-putt set up). Alan started this the first year becuase he wanted to see as many aces as possible. I think there were 5 aces that weekend (4 in Rd. 3 alone). So, the ace pot is higher so the splits arent quite so low. Rest assured, there have been and probably always will be aces at the Wild Hair!! So, get in on the action!!
Alan is also adding 6 holes to Rd. 4 (WIll Hair) and maybe adding some holes for Rd. 1. Will post when I know for sure.
Also, Juniors will play shorter tees on the longer holes in every round.

Things are progressing along well. The course layouts should be final this week. Still working on a hotel deal. It looks like the best rate I can come up with is $49 a night. Not the best, but better than nothing I suppose. Will let you know when I get that confirmed.

Looking forward to this tourney. It might not be the biggest one around, but the Abilene people know how to make you feel at home. And this is home for me, to bad there were not courses there when I was growing up.
Played my first sanctioned tournament in Abilene when it was the Mr. Big Putts Open, so I am excited that the tournament is sanctioned again.
See you there.

We got Will Hair and 'Aceville' marked off Sat. Plus, we got some rain this weekend, so hopefully we can convince the city to mow one more time :D
We added a few more sponsers this week that will provide a few more amenities, but for the most part we have had only a few cash sponsers :( The payouts will be above the minimum, but its looks like there will be little or no added cash to the payouts :( I think some of the sponser will be BIG sponsers next year depending on how things go this year. Regardless, we still plan on showing people a great time here in Abilene this weekend!!
We have had a few questions about advanced masters. I think they just got inadvertantly left off the flyer...so, if there are advanced masters players, there will be an advanced masters division. Same price as advanced ($35).
Players packages - Our T-shirt guy went up in price this year, so instead of the first 60 players getting a T-shirt and towel, EVERYONE will get a T-shirt. There will be enough for a full field of 90 :D
Registation starts Fri. at 4p. Then, Sat. at 8a. Here are some maps of the layouts. The first is Cal Young from the concrete tees. The second is the Cal Young 'B' course. The third is Will Hair. (Aceville is just a shorter version of the normal course)

Going out to paint the OB lines tonight...and tee boxes for Aceville. We have had some questions about camping. I know there is a KOA next to the I-20 and there is a State Park 25 miles south of Abilene. I will try to find out any other info on camping that I can.
Jroc
Jun 22 2006, 12:35 PM
Camping Information:
1. There is a KOA off I-20 just west of Hwy 83. HERES A MAP (http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?latlongtype=internal&addtohistory=&latitude=oGX5u12Omm4%3d&longitude=4vvhTjPGN8U%3d&name=KOA%20Kampgrounds&country=US&address=4851%20W%20Stamford%20St&city=Abilene&state=TX&zipcode=79603&phone=325%2d672%2d3681&spurl=0&&q=K)
Its $15 a night for a tent site - $27.95 a night w/ water and electricity hookups
2. Johnson Park at Lake Ft. Phantom. The park is located by the ****. There are some primative campsites that are free: first come-first serve. And, there is a restroom. About 12 miles north of Abilene. HERES A MAP (http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?latlongtype=internal&addtohistory=&latitude=oNTG6GIWJVI%3d&longitude=iLaeG6Iq1R0%3d&name=Lake%20Fort%20Phantom%20Hill&country=US&address=&city=Abilene&state=TX&zipcode=&phone=&spurl=0&&q=Lake%20Fort%20Phantom&qc=Reservoir)
3. SeeBee Park. Located just south of Lake Ft. Phantom. Primative camsites. No charge. No restrooms. On the Ft. Phantom Lake map, move south to find Seebee Park Rd.
4. Abilene State Park. 20 miles south of Abilene.
Thats the only tent camping options around the Abilene area. Let me know if you have any questions.

We got some good rain this morning. Nothing big...but enough to soften up the course nicely. Got the OB lines painted and the Aceville course set up. Now, all we need are people :D
We will have a chance for scattered T-storms for the rest of the weekend with highs only in the upper 80s with 8-10 mph winds. Bring that umbrella and some extra socks! :D

Day 1 is in the books.
We had a great turnout of 74 from about 12 different cities. Weather was fantastic, everyone I talked to was having a good time, and things ran fairly smoothly. Results are up if anyone wants to check them out. 2 rounds tommorrow...looks like it will be great weather again.

Wild Hair #3 is done!!
Sunday turned out to be a great day of disc golf!! Justin Kerr played solid all weekend to take the Open title. The Abilene courses treated Marcus Roberts well again as he took the Masters title AND had the lowest total for the weekend. 10 women showed up to play, and all had smiles on their faces. The biggest surprise of the weekend was that NO aces were hit!! With our Aceville course, 3+ Aces were expected that round alone, but it was not to be this year. So, 3 players walked away with $110 each on the CTP throw-off at the end.
The 74 player field represented disc golfers from Amarillo, Lubbock, Ft. Stockton, Big Spring, Sweetwater, San Angelo, Wichita Falls, Live Oak, Arlingotn, Ft. Worth, Temple, Round Rock, Abilene, and even Clearwater FL. (no, not THAT player from Clearwater FL :D). It was so gratifying to see so many travel such distances to play our event. THANK YOU!!
Besides a few issues, everything ran pretty smoothly. We also had 2 people become new PDGA members and 2 people renewed their memberships. (A welcome surprise :D) Alan and Francis Rogers deserve a big thanks for putting this event on. And my wife Misti for score entry and doing anything else we asked her to do :D. John Rock and DeLynn (and David) stayed with us...always good to spend time with those guys :D
My only disappointment was no added cash to the Pro purse. My number one goal for next year is to sweeten the pot for the Pros.
So, on behalf of the West Texas Disc Twisters, we want to thank everyone who came and suppoted our event. Mark you calenders next year for the The Wild Hair '07!!
