Edgewood Electric is sponsoring a Masters only disc golf tournament at Idlewild. The new date is June 10 and 11th, 2006. It was originally set for June 17 and 18. The date of 17 and 18 conflicted with the Pittsburg tournament and the PDGA asked me to change our date. Not a problem.
Make sure you put this tournament on your schedule(if you qualify, that is) it should be lots of fun.
All Pro Masters divisions will be offered and Master and Grandmaster in Am. Must have 4 to open a division.
Thanks
Those who attended the Disc 'n Dat Bluegrass Open (http://www.pdga.com/schedule/event.php?TournID=5500) last weekend know Idlewild is looking better than ever and with the work being done between now and the Masters at Idlewild event, the course will look even better on June 10th and 11th. Don't miss the chance to play this PDGA event at Idlewild if your Masters-age or older. (Idlewild is located at England-Idlewild Park in Burlington Kentucky and is just minutes away from the greater Cincinnati airport).

Fred & crew have put OB walls along both sides of the creek on the greens of 3, 15, and 16 long, and the latest wall is on the green of 2 long (across the pond) and is really picturesque. When an updated pic. becomes available, i'll post it here...

I don't quite qualify for this tourney because of young beatiful face and boyish charm, BUT, I'll be helping out with every aspect of running this thing for Disc-N-tucky.
Come on out, people. We'll have the best course in Midwest, and maybe the United States, manicured and setup for Championship play, just for you. You'll go home with great memories, added cash, and an undeniable urge to make it to the next Idlewild tournament. This place is just THAT NICE.
We will also be having an incredible players party on Saturday Night no more 3 minutes from the course, with food, drinks, and fun for all. I believe we'll have some putting challenges and maybe even a temp course setup at the players party location. You WILL get your money's worth, AND MORE, at this tournament.
Hope to see you soon!

There are pics of each hole and also a printable coursemap at:
Idlewild Course page (http://www.cincinnatidiscgolf.com/courses/Idlewild.htm)
or visit the Cincinnati Disc Golf website (http://www.cincinnatidiscgolf.com) and click on the "COURSES" tab.
the course map has old distances for some of the holes (such as hole 4) and 13 and 14 long are not yet shown on the course map.
i might be able to meet you there Thursday afternoon if you prefer a guide
here's a cheat sheet:
there are 5 holes with long & short options:
hole 2 (long and short baskets -- both baskets are in place)
hole 3 (long and short tees -- it is easy to miss the long tee behind the short one)
hole 13 long and short baskets -- both baskets in place)
hole 14 (long and short tees -- far away from each other -- play 13's long basket to get to 14's long tee; play 13's short basket to get to 14's short tee
hole 16 (long and short baskets -- both in place)

Calling all Masters (Amateur or Pro, masters, GM's SGM's, etc.). Here is a tournament where all the added cash goes to the older guys and gals at a great course. 2 rounds Saturday (1 from the shorts, one from the longs) and 1 round Sunday (longs). Your Pre-registering if possible will be appreciated.
Should have mentioned: all the added cash goes to the older professional guys and gals.
Great tournament. I played lights out in the rain yesterday, and built a formidable enough lead over the second and third place challengers in am master to hold them off easily today. I don't know what the pro masters did today, but I'm sure I wouldn't have touched 'em. After two rounds yesterday, if I had played pro master, I'd have started today in sixteenth place, five strokes from the last money place. In other words, I'd have had to play way over my head to to have a sniff of last place pro money.
I played amateur. It's the only place I'm competitive nowadays.
Unfortunately, the message I received today after the win was: sorry am, move up.
I should be ecstatic with a win on the toughest course around.
As an amateur, if I'd have come from out of town, spent money on gas, food and lodging, and come away with a net gain of $35 in merchandise for my efforts, I'd stay home next time.
Six entrants in am master @ 40 each= $240. $15 retail players package, subtract $90 from pool= $150. Merchandise payout (retail)= $60 for 1st, $45 for 2nd, and $30 for 3rd. Total payout= $135.
Sorry, am, move up.
Sorry PDGA, I'm saving my gas, food, and lodging money, and putting it towards merchadise I can pick and choose as I see fit.
I work on my game as much as anyone who works 40 hours a week with no family can. It ain't gonna get that much better. I feel like I played off the hook. The pros blew my doors off.
Where do I go now?

Russ, for the Advanced Masters Men's field of 6,
subtract $2 per entry for the PDGA fee,
$8 per entry for the dinner at the party,
and you have $30 * (6) Advanced Masters entrants = $180.
Subtract $15 per player's pack (even thought the Equalizer retails for $20, Fred gave it to you at 15) and that's another 90 dollars off leaving $90 for the total field payout.
Then subtract $50 for the very nice trophy you have yet to pick up because you didn't go to the awards ceremony and that leaves $40 for the payout not counting the other costs involved such as the tent rental for the party.
So Fred did add $95 to the small amateur field even though Added cash is generally to attract and reward the Professional Disc Golfers -- especially at an event held at a Gold level course like Idlewild ... (i am kind of surprised you'd think any would go to the Advanced Masters field of 6) ... Yet Fred still added $95 to your division's payout. Your 1st place payout in Adv. Masters was $60 of discs of your choice plus a $50 trophy (plus the player's pack worth 20 dollars retail you received) seems to me about as good as it gets. With all of the time and personal money TD Fred put into the tournament, it's surprising he'd hear anything but 'thank you's for it. If you are running a tournament and are going to pump more of your own time and money into it than Fred did on this one let me know -- i'll definitely want to be there.

The Ball Golf vs. Disc Golf Doubles event Friday night before the tournament went beautifully with both Disc Golf teams (Lavone Wolfe & Dean Tannock and Fred Salaz & Bob Herbert) finishing ahead of both of the ball golf teams they were up against in a 9 hole challenge at Boone Links. The ball golfers that hadn't been previously exposed to PDGA players were very impressed -- saying that at first they had thought there was "no way" they could lose to frisbee throwers. during play, one of the former PGA pros confided he had sort of wanted to miss the event thinking "what did i get myself into" but that he was glad he came because it was a great deal of fun. Everyone involved enjoyed the event and are looking forward to the re-match next year (the ball golfer's were ready for the rematch as soon as they lost) :D
Doug Aulick did a great job promoting the event on local cable tv channel 6 -- talking about the upcoming event as well as about disc golf. He also was fantastic at the introduction to the beginning of the event and at the Awarding of the trophy ceremony after our winners had displayed their talent and the beauty of disc golf. the spectator turn out was less than hoped for but everyone talked about working to get a better turn-out next year.

Fred and Rob, an apology is in order. I was on my way home from my nephew's send-off party, and I was thinking I was going to delete the post. Since you've read it and responded, I'll leave it for posterity.
You're right, I have no idea what goes into running a PDGA tournament anymore. The fees and expectations have changed since the old days of two divisions in the PDGA (pro and go home). I've managed to chuff two quite capable TDs in the Cincinnati area within the last year, and I've been set straight both times.
Until the PDGA has the divisions such that tournaments are run only within each division, I don't think I want to try to run one. Too many hotheads like me out there. This tourney is a step in that direction, and I welcome it. The closer we can get to having one tournament= one division only, the better the PDGA will become. To my knowledge, no other sport regularly fields amateurs, pros, women, men, grandmasters, and juniors in the same field. To pull it off takes a delicate hand, and you two did it.
I'm ecstatic that I could play Idlewild so well in the rain. The tourney ran as smoothly as anyone could have wanted.
My game has issues, and I work on it as much as anyone with a 40 hour work week and no family can. And, still, everyone around me seems to be improving on a steeper curve. I see now why ballplayers finally call it quits. Please forgive my frustration. I'm taking it out on the players around me, and that's not fair. If I can't make hay in pro GM next year, then it's back to amateur status for good, and I'll try to STFU.
Once again, my apologies.
Good show, gentlemen.

Thanks for apologizing. I think when you see the trophy and what it says you will feel like you won something special in reward for the rounds you played this weekend at one very tough course. i saw the one Mark Ellis took home and they are extremely sweet.
"Masters at Idlewild 2006 Champion" is engraved on them and five 1st place trophies were won this weekend. i don't normally like trophies that much, but these are [i]really desirable.

"Wow"....
That's a good word to describe this course. A better word might be "Masterpiece".
Idlewild is one of the finest disc golf courses ever created....and maintained, for that matter. The amount of work these disc golfers put into this gem of a course was simply astounding. The pictures posted on this thread do not do it justice....Idlewild is a work of art. Especially the greens.
Red Whittington provided the best compliment of the weekend..."this course reminds me of a sculpted piece of marble. The artwork already exists inside the block of stone....it's the sculptor who slowly chips away the pieces to reveal it's beauty." I couldn't agree more. That's exactly what these folks did with this gorgeous wooded parcel in northern Kentucky.
"Thank you" to everyone involved in this Masters tournament...especially the sponsor, Edgewood Electric. I know I'll be back...
