Well everyone is always talking about making the sport bigger and getting it out there more. We all know that Bham steeped it up to get someone new involved into the sport by getting Century 21. If we are always talking about getting it bigger shouldn't we turned to the big companies that are out there and try to get them to sponsor more I mean why cant we cant some big companies involved. I know the owner of a local skatepark down here and his shop is sponsored by oakley glasses and he sends them people to sponsor. He is currently looking to see what he can do to get them to sponsor us and I sent them an email also recently asking about it.

That would be sweeeet to have Oakley sponsor tourneys or players!! Keep it up, If more people like you would keep trying and getting the word out about this sport, it will grow to be a better thing that it already is!!

Well I mean I know everyone always it talking about it and some tournaments are getting better and better with sponsors. But look at most sports they are all sponsored by the same people. I was laying around earlier looking at some sports and nascar baseball football x games all of those all have the same guys. Why don't we go to them and see if they will join our sport?

Disc Golf will have BIG sponsors once there is incentive for them to sponsor the event or the player. Until then, we'll be playing for our own money, or money raised by DG doers / DG organizations.
Really, why should Mercedes give us money or cars? They do it for ball golf b/c MILLIONS of people play / watch ball golf. Ultimately, there is some sort of return, whether it be exposure or money. Unfortunately, it's all about exposure and money to the BIG companies. Period.

The sport is growing, no doubt about that. I remember looking at the course directory 10+ years ago and only seeing 500 or so courses. Now there is over 2,000!
Building a VERY large AMATEUR base is the key. Sure, i'd like to be able to play disc for a living, but the sport isn't ready to support anymore people than it's already supporting....much less someone who has a mortgage payment, 2 car payments, 3 stomachs to feed, kids college to save for, etc.........luckily, no daycare. My wife stays home.
Maybe Baby-Hero will be able to play for some big money in his lifetime. By then, the exposure for BIG companies may be there, at least enough for them to sponsor events.
As of right now though, WORLDS, USDGC, & THE PLAYERS CUP are our sports premiere events. It's at these events you'll see BIG sponsors one day. Hopefully sooner rather than later.

Building a VERY large AMATEUR base ...

Watch the movie "The Greatest Game"
In the extras, the guy the movie was about tell how "Pro Golfers" made there money back then.
It was not from playing tournaments!!!!!!!!
In fact, players like Tiger make more money from sponsorship than from being the highest money winner of all time.

Riding unicycles? If Nike doesn't recognize disc golf but will use unicycles as an example of a good physical activity...I don't know what to say. We are further out of the loop than what I thought.

Nike isn't promoting unicycle competitions.
Everyone knows what a unicycle is and has seen one. They are funny. Used in an ad campaign you can connect with the audience.
You don't get that with disc golf.

If Bite is putting out the First Disc Golf Shoe, why not approach them about being the First major sponsor of Disc Golf.

They are coming out in August but they are sending some out in June I think. They are releasing the Distance line 1st (to certain players) and then the other a little later.
