I was at our local club meeting last week and their was talk about making one of our longer running and well attended tournaments an XB-Tier, as opposed to a B-Tier. The reason: in order to mix the groups in the first round, in honor of the namesake of the tournament. Also, the club president wants to try to set an example to TD's on the proper way to go about mixing the 1st round and still follow PDGA guidlines. I know that there has been much discussion on this issue and it's a hot topic to many. My question is this: Does making it an X-Tier put any negative conotations to it? Are there players that don't play a tournament by simply seeing an X in front of it? I only learned at the meeting that putting an X only means that there is something about the tournament that does not follow PDGA guidlines, same points and ratings and everything as a non-X Tier. So w/o actually seeeing it posted on the flyer or website, nobody would actually know what is different. Since this is one rule that TD's often 'overlook', would it be better to just keep it a B-Tier and post it on the flyer that the 1st round will have mixed divisions?
And what, if any, are the sanctions placed on a TD for ignoring this rule? It seems to happen a lot, at least here in CO, so it must not be enforced or nobody is filing formal complaints.
I personlly think it's a good idea, but then again, I'm not a Pro playing for money, just and Am playing to hang out and meet new and old friends...ie--have fun!
