Brian, Steve, and others,

Quest Applied Technologies recently submitted the Scream DT, Scream DT Max, Scream DT Ultra, Odyssey Putter, Odyssey Approach & Putter for PDGA testing. They also resubmitted the Odyssey Driver, a disc that had previously failed the flexibility test. All of these discs were found to comply with PDGA requirements, so they have been added to the list of PDGA-approved discs (attached Excel file). The PDGA logo and "PDGA Approved" are now permitted for use by the manufacturer in association with these products. Test measurements are listed below.

Dave,
Are the proto's legal for tournament play, or do I need a new one with the PDGA approval stamp? Thx

When will the Scream begin production? Talked to a guy from Questat Saturday and said they weren't producing them yet.

We should be getting the first shipment of Screams and Scream DT MAX tomorrow,
Once we have them and they are stamped, I will post here.
We have the Odyssey Mid-range and Apporach now, and should have the stamps ready by the end of the week.

Hey Dave, can you post some pics of the Scream? Especially the DT models?

I'm very curious to see the wing width, curve, and other physical characteristics. I don't know if you want to make comparisions to other brand discs, or if you even know... but if you do... where does the Scream stack up in the Innova line? Speed wise? Is it a 10, or is it Spinal Tap 11? More stable than a Wraith?

I've tried a couple of the discs that Justin sent me, and they were either WAY OVERSTABLE, or Uber-flippy. I couldn't seem to get a feel on them... Maybe more testing and working would be needed, and possible some different disc/plastic combos?

Make sure Justin has a box of new stuff in his trunk when he comes up to win the BlueGrass Open in 2 weeks. I'm quite curious to see what you guys are cooking up at Gateway Labs...

Hey JT I looked at the site and saw you posted them already there. Did you happen to take any of the DT from the top? I haven't tried those yet I only have the Scream but wanted to see what the DT looks like.

The DT has pretty much the same top as the Scream.

So the DT is on the bottom and not the top?

Which version is the most "overstable" version for faster armspeed?

discchucker
Apr 27 2006, 11:16 PM
The Scream can handle a bit more juice on it. The DT is meant for lesser arm speeds.

Been test flying all 4 odyssey discs this week, and feel they are great discs for beginners as a set.
The putter is a bit more overstable than a Wizard but has just about the same "S" plastic we use so they really grab the chains well.
The mid-range and approach are a very nice one-two punch for shots under 300 feet
The driver I still need to do a bit more testing,
It is really meant for players with less armspeed than I have. I have gotten them out to 450 with about 60% power whne I try and throw them with about 80 % which is about 45-50 MPH the are a little harder to control.
They fly very fast and gave an extremely long glide and a nice slight fade at the end.

The Latest Scream are REALLY REALLY fast and remind me of a tamed down Spirit.
The DT version of the scream has some of the most amazing flight performance features I have ever scene.
The dimples on the wing make a sound that is almost like it is Screaming its pretty cool and they flight is so smooth and long even at 60% power.

What will happen to the disc when the dimples wear down over time? Will the disc fly the same? Looks cool though. Glad there are still some innovations to DISCover.

TPU TPE Blends do not wear down.
The mix is basically the same as the Evoution which is the same as star which is whats on the cover of Golf Balls.

They material does not wear down, But I do see changing the shapes to increase or reduce drag and balnce out lift.

I it overstable?

AviarX

for me it flew very straight except at very low speed (when it ran out of gas) it finished overstable.

Ilove the native american proverb!
Was the putter orange or blue?

AviarX
Apr 30 2006, 05:46 PM
Orange. i forgot to see if it had a weight. JP Mayer and i played catch with it and i putted with it too. Fred Salaz had them out at Idlewild. I asked if he had any for sale, but he said it was a prototype... I like the color blue for putters -- are blue ones different in flight than the orange?

It'd be cool to see that Proverb on a disc with a satellite picture of the Earth from space... :D

The blue ones are the approach and the orange are a Wizard copy.
I was just making sure.

Did you like the discs?

Hello Dave!

I've had the Blue one (approach putter) and the White one (driver) for a few days. We've been goofing around with them a little bit, and it's quite an interesting concept. To me, the driver is a little high speed UNDERstable for people with power, but will come back if you throw it high enough. The other disc was fun to play catch with, but I didn't think it could get into my bag.

Now, on the other hand, these discs are getting some serious work this week. My fiance' (who's been playing for about 6 months and throws 150-200' tops) is playing around with the 2 I have (blue, white). She's done fine with the blue approach, but I think she still prefers her 150 CE Leopards off the tee (which, ironically, are a pretty straight flyer in her hands at her arm speed).

The part of the discs that I didn't like was the grip. It seemed that the mating area between the plate and the overmold was always in the way of my fingers. This may not be a problem for everyone, as I have very large hands. My fiance could grip each disc fine.

Keep up the good work, and keep pushing the envelope. This is really cool stuff, and just because it's not my cup of tea doesn't mean it's not a good idea! I can't wait to get ahold of a Scream DT. Make sure Justin has some to distrubute when he comes up Northern KY for the BlueGrass Open, will ya? I can be an official tester, if'n you'd like!??!

I like the feel and flight of the putter enough that i asked Fred if he had any for sale :D i really didn't want to like it (i'm stocked up on putters) -- but with this disc in my hands it was hard to miss  i want to get one to see if that continues to be the case day in and day out :D

I use a modified FU grip for almost everything and these discs have a place for my middle finger to grip (rather than simply rest) -- so that's cool. I was hoping it could be a good MTA disc. Do any Gateway models make nice MTA discs at premie weights?

gdstour

I have a fan grip that fits the overmolded perfectly and my power grip does not get effected by the inner rim either.
I guess I'm just lucky that both grips work well for me with the overmoled in its current form.
We will produce many more discs and try many variations of overmolding and dimples.
This is just the beginning of a long journey and only the tip of the ICEBERG in new product development.

I personally think the Scream DT can accomplish shots that no disc out there can as a new disc.
It will hold a straight line and turn very late in the flight at low trajectory or hold a hyzer all the way when thrown a bit higher.
The disc will go just as far at 40 mph as it does at 50, which should be great for new players.

We will be trying to get some dimples on the illusion and spirit and may eventually get the on the whole line of discs.

AWSmith
May 02 2006, 12:59 AM
how do the dimplies really affect anything?

hazard
May 02 2006, 05:17 AM
Presumably the same as they do for a golf ball. Parasite boundary turbulence layer = less drag?

gdstour
May 03 2006, 04:27 AM
Nice wording bob
In laymans terms, they go very far with less effort
The discs will go just as far at 40 MPH as 55, which should really help players with less armspeed get more distance!
