Heads Up for area players. Our little 9 hole course in Brentwood is going thru some significant changes. In the last two weeks the city started construction on an indoor soccer arena. Yep, you guessed it. Right on top of what little we had. As of today, we have 5 out of order holes. Our land use parameters have NOT changed. We have to stay inside the original space allotted. For more details about our current design choices AND the use of the land in the rear for additional holes in the far future, e-mail me at [email protected]

Now, a discussion board question: This bit of land is all we will have for this course for about 2 more years. If this were your local course, would you rather play on a semi-decent 6 hole course or on a fairway crossing, use-some-targets-twice, double-looping 9 hole course??? BTW, we still have the chance to place dual tees on most holes of either choice.

Thanks,
Ron Pittman

depends on how much play the course is going to get.

I would say a pitch and putt course is better than a 6 hole course or a 9 hole courses that has crossing fairways.

To me, there has to be beginner courses out there. Then when they get better, they can drive over to Cedar Hill in Nashville and get spanked. (in more than one way :D)

Bryan,
I agree, we do need a beginners course. That is what the city asked for - and using what bit of land they had -- that is what we put in. Although we did sneak in some white tees with some success.

But, we don't really have large amounts of players. Ineresting mix though. About 50% families and newbies, 30% area business men playing during lunch or on the way home, and the balance seems to be a few local folks who need to get in a round, but don't want to drive in to Seven Oaks.

In other words, very few see it as their "home" course. Just glad it is there.

For now, 6 holes seems to be the best way. The design map to squeeze in 9 holes even gets ME confused, not to mention a visiting golfer. The qaulity of the extra 3 holes would be rather decent, but nowhere near great. Not really worth the effort.

And EFFORT seems to be where the rub is. Thankfully, the city has given us permission to re-arrange the holes, but on the player's dollar & time. I've posted signs all over the course and on a few websites looking for those interested in helping to salvage the course. Right now, course workdays could be rather lonely. Spreadeth thou the word. Interested folks can e-mail me at [email protected](ihatespam)charter.net

The good news? When construction is over in late 2007, we have permission to add holes in the rear of the property. Should be able to total 18. Long wait. Hopefully we can hold on to our player base in the mean time.
