I'm driving to Augusta the week of the Pro Worlds, what courses would you consider to be must plays in NC and
SC along the way? Thanks ahead of time!

Raleigh-Buckhorn, Zebulon, Cedar Hills
Charlotte-Renny, Hornet's Nest
Many others but these are the best in the two bigger cities.

On the way to Augusta on I20 is the best short course in the world, Earlewood in Columbia. This course is fun and quick to play and has some of the coolest holes you will play.
I'd say in NC, I would get out to Zebulon, Cedarrock Park in Burlington (2 courses) and Ho nest and REnny in Charlotte.
IN SC, if you have time, obviously check out Earlewood (As said above) and WInthrop. Boyd Hill in Rock Hill is a cool course and Chapin (near earlewood) is a really fun course as well.

DiscNDav,
Are you driving down I-95 to I-20?
How much time do you have to detour?
Along that route Zebulon is your best bet.
Earlewood has great hills.
P.S.- 2 weeks ago I played Nixon in Kennett Square, Nockamixon, and Sedgley Woods for my first PA courses. Nice!

I-95 to I-20 would be logical coming from Philly but I have not played in Raleigh or Charlotte before. Cedarbrook I played twice a few years back during the a DG road trip. Thanks for the quick response, it's helping me plan a roadtrip/vacation.

Your answer determines what it is reasonable to suggest.
If you're going to Charlotte make sure to hit Renaissance.

Dave,
Did you get to play any NC and/or SC courses on that trip? If so, what did you think?

If you're going to play Charlotte you might consider a route catching I-81 west of Washington, to I-77 to Columbia, and I-20. From D.C. to Columbia it's only slightly longer, more scenic & less aggravating.
Depending on your time and number of courses you want to play, Renny (Charlotte) and Earlewood (Columbia) would be two top selections, and compliment each other as well. Renny's long, tough, challenging, cool...Earlewood is short, creative, fun, and cool. Both are convenient to the interstate.
If you've more time and more willing to veer off, there are plenty more fine courses along the way.
Should you want to play Earlewood and want a guide, let us know. The Sauls gang works 10 minutes from the course and I'm sure one of us could meet you.

Of course, I am 9-12 months late in responding, but here is my 2-day itinerary:
I have made the east coast drive tons of times (grew up in CT and have relatives in DC, Baltimore, and NE). Like David says DEFINITELTY shoot east to I-81 (best route is probably I-76 from Philly to I-81) and grab I-77. MUCH less traffic and MUCH more scenic. You will drive 30-40 miles more, but will save at least 1 hour of time and tons of stress.
Courses:
230 miles from Philly:
1) 2-3 miles north on on I-81 in VA where I-66 meets I-81 is Sherando. Haven't played it, but I've heard good things.
200 miles to:
2) Golden Hills in Blacksburg, VA is supposedly pretty cool and fun with extreme elevation changes.
120 miles
3) Yadkinville, NC. Excellent course. Scenic and fun.
60 miles
4) Hornet's Nest. Challenging. World class
15 miles
5) Renaissance. ditto, but on steroids
20 miles
6) Winthrop. ditto (Gold layout will not have the famous yellow ropes in place, but still fun and challenging).
70 miles
7) Earlewood. My personal fave in the Columbia, SC area
75 miles to Augusta!

Can agree with all of the above, Dave, including the year late. With the addition of hollering at me as you come through for a Yadkin County tour of Y'ville Park, Ramcat and I just might be able to get you into Cranberry Disco as well, if you hold your mouth right.
