The 4th annual Downriver Open had its last hurrah last year. We have filled our course every year, and as a winner of 2 of the previous tourneys I can say I am a little sad to see it go.. but it appears that bigger and better things are on the horizon...

The Lilac City Open will take place on May 27th and 28th! There will be 4 courses included in the mix this year. Downriver, Highbridge and Four Mounds Red and Blue Courses will be the sites for this event. The club has been fundraising since December and there as of now is $900 added (actual)cash to this event which puts us over half way to our goal of $1,500 of added cash. We are actually trying to raise as much as we possibly can in order to bring a sweet "A" tier event to Washington State. This event is the weekend following the conclusion of the West Coast Swing in Portland(Beaver State Fling).
If there are any folks who would like to help the SDGA run a killer event please email Gordy Crafts @ [email protected] The more sponsors and supporters we get the better our event will be! Thanks in advance,
Jeremy "Yoduh" Thornton

The tourney flyer is up on the SDGA website, the address is www.sdga.us (http://www.sdga.us) Anyone coming from the Beaver Fling? Spokane is a 6 hour drive from the Milo. I'd recomend seeing the 9 massive waterfalls on the 9 mile long scenic Columbia Gorge highway, they are phenomenal! The Hood River Brewery in Hood River is a cool place to stop, last year on Monday there was a huge players tour and it was a great time. There is also Sorosis park located in the Dalles, a really fun course with some sweet views from way up on top of the Columbia River Gorge. Columbia park in Kennewick WA has a fun 18 hole course just 4 minutes off of the highway, and then you are less than 2 1/2 hours from Spokane.. Caution NEVER EVER Go more than 5 mph over the speed limit in and around The Dalles and more importantly around Ritzville WA (Adams County), they lead the state every year in drug busts and speeding tickets.. See ya at the LCO!

If you followed the virtual tour of High Bridge then great.. the footage on most of those holes is way short. Not sure what happened but it'll be updated soon. We have a major sponsorship commitment that should be completed after the first of May. Should be between $700-$1000 for this one sponsor to our $900 that we have now. More to come..

We've recieved a ton of positive feedback on the forums from this years LCO and next year is gonna be awesome!! Gawain Stern is a hard core Disc golf junkie who has toured for quite a few years as much as about any amatuer as I've ever seen had this to say about this years LCO on the www.odsa.com (http://www.odsa.com) forum page..
The Lilac City Open was a fantastic event!

The courses were great - tough, yet fair. Good mix of left, right, straight, up, down, flat, tight techno, grip'n'rip, ace runs, and placement shots. The 4 Mounds DG Reserve (private) is an ABSOLUTELY AMAZING facility - the biggest disc golf area I have ever experienced in my life: bigger than Steilly, bigger than Milo! It has amazing terrain, scenery, wildlife, and disc golf holes. It is brilliantly laid out, with maps, access roads, parking areas, and much much more. The way it has a 27-hole layout that combines holes from three different 18-hole layouts is an absolute work of genius.

After I went to Downriver a couple years ago, I enjoyed it, but it was not enough to get me to return. However, this year's multi-course event was far more than well worth it - it was an experience of a lifetime!

The organization was outstanding. There were never any questions because all issues were addressed ahead of time. The Player Handbooks with course maps, city maps, hole lengths, and schedules that were mailed to each pre-registered player was a fantastic amenity. Every TD was well-informed and knowledgeable - I don't think there were any problems at all! The extra effort of each staff, and their commitment to make the event the best it can be, along with their sacrifice of NOT PLAYING IN THEIR OWN EVENT, made the LCO a World Class event.

The players pack was excellent. The events at local restaurant sponsors were great fun. I enjoyed every moment I was there, from the Friday night doubles to the Monday doubles with the TD at Jumanji!

This event was possibly the most organized, most fun event I have ever attended! It is definitely up there with Am Worlds Des Moines Iowa, Am Worlds Kansas City Kansas, Howliewood, Beaver State Fling, NW Amatuer Series, and All Hallows Heave.

The staff did an awesome job - you could tell they had been working for months to make this event spectacular. Gordy, Jaymie, Steve, Bob, and everyone else involved deserve our thanks. THANKS!

Just thought some of you might be interested.. See you next year at LCO2!!

Also, about $1,000 was added to the pro pot and the pros got their choice of 3 different colored shirts.. There was $3,500 in the pro purse with only 37 pros combined. As you heard before the am packs were sweet and they walked out with stacks of plastic, and around $800 in payout without including trophys in any of the payouts.. Here is the pdga link: http://www.pdga.com/tournament/tournament_results.php?TournID=5812#Open
Next year will be bigger!!

The Lilac City Open was one of the best run events in ANY
club, hobby, sport, or pastime that I've ever attended.
Bob, Gordy, Jaymie, Steve, and all of the course marshalls,
spotters, and various assistants made for a fantastic weekend. Thank you ALL.

Did the girl at the pizza place get hazard pay?
Would YOU want to serve free pizza to 100 disc golfers
on a Sunday Afternoon?

Four Mound Disc Golf Reserve is breath-taking. Really.

If you are lucky enough to play there, pack a camera.
I forgot mine last time, can we try it again?

thanks,
Bowler
