Sounds like a great event Chase. Wish I could make it. I'll be in BG. Haven't been to the QC for eons to play some golf. Hope all goes well with the tourney and good luck with Iron Lion. Sounds like with the level of disc in the QC that it should be an instand success. Cheers!

Thanks!
Chad Eng has put together an excellent event, and always does. The River City Reader has also really stepped up to the plate to enable the QCs to grow. Although we are helping to sponsor and promote, I am nothing more than a message passer, this is Engs course and his baby. All complaints about the twisted layout are to be directed at him. :D
Good Luck in Bowling Green!

Chase,
How can Gateway be a part of sponsoring your event?
You can contact Chad Eng. Hes in Europe right now on tour with his barbershop quartet, but should be back in about a week. Hes the course designer, TD, and organizer of the event. As much as Id like to take compliments ( There will be tons handed out after ) I had nothing to do with this with the exception of promotion and sponsorship. Im sure you could call me at the shop ( I pm'd the # ) and I could handle it for Chad, till he gets back.
HukLab is also contributing to the players package, which Im sure, would be a perfect fit for you to get into if interested.
Thanks David!
I've seen most of the layout of the 24 hole course for this event. It is going to be an excellent challenge. The course offers lots of water, elevation, tight fairways, 2-3 shot holes, and even a couple of ace runs. 80 will be a smokin' hot round. Come prepared for 2 four hour rounds! Can't wait. See ya there Chase. :D

I heard some rumor about Gateway adding huge to this tourney for the Ams. Any truth to this? David?

Good luck with the Rumble QC. I can't believe this is the same weekend as BG. If you aren't at one of these two tournaments something is wrong.
West Lake Park is right off the freeway and is one of those properties that has it all. You know you have designed instant disc golf courses out your car window as you drive around and this park always screamed to me-----DREAM COURSE! Enjoy, Enjoy :D
Also going to be extremely important for everyone to have their best disc golf ambassador caps on. This may become a permanent course and plenty of county officials and DNR will be curious to see if disc golf is worthy of the land.
WE ARE WORTHY :D

We are located in Moline, on 16th St.

Im either in the shop or in DSM. They have a doubles tourney at Ewing, and I believe Pat and I are trekking up there. We will be at the Rumble, but either way the store will be open. Jessica will run it Saturday if im gone.

Actually, I was wrong. BGers missed out also. Best Course I ever played. If you dont know , you better ask somebody. If you didnt get in, register early for next year.
One round at this course was worth the weekend in BG.
Disc Golf Mecca?.....You must be talking about the Quad Cities, or you will be.
Yes, and I believe that Chris Sprague's analogy was "USDGC of the Midwest". That's right, Winthrop, move over. This course was the hardest, and fairest course I've ever played. When a 77 is >(way >)1000 rated round, you know you've played some real golf.

There is no way to truly describe this course. It is EASILY the hardest I have ever played. I guess if I had to, it would be a cross of Da Canyon in Brooksville, FL for the epic, varied shots, but more so. Shelly Sharpe in Scottsdale, AZ for the water and close proximity to it, but more so and with stupid fast greens. Edgebrook in Chicago, IL (longest Fly18 ever) for the length. And the Toboggan in Kensington-Milford, MI for the elevation. So I guess it was like a longer, tighter flooded out Toboggan. And that dam hole is just unreal. Chad Eng should have a bed reserved for him at the local sanatarium. I was SO not ready for that type of golf.
All that being said, I loved every bit of it.
I'll come out and say it right now, I've been to the Canyon (Brooksville) every year for the past 3 for the epic course. The flow can be "off" in Davenport, but the course is BETTER THAN THE CANYON!!!!!
For those who haven't played Brooksville, you just don't know. But for those that have, you'll understand the limb I am going out on by saying this. And I feel fully justified in doing so. Now that I've had some time for it to sink in, this place is the BEST. I still love the Canyon and will more than likely be back. But I can't miss this, so long as it returns. But it needs to be one round per day, and two days. It was a bit much to try and get two rounds in.
Thanks to all involved with this event. And all praise be to the fate that led me to this event instead of somewhere else. WOW!

Take away the thorn greens, straighten the baskets, make it 18 holes, it's THE best course in the country.

Id like to see 3 days, 3 rounds + Final 9 on Sunday.
Chad told me He had 3 complete layouts that were all similar, and this was the first with some extra holes for balance. Theres so much room out there, its like a smaller Highbridge. ( From what Im told. Ive never been there. )
Definately could be a tournament where you have assigned tee times, one round per day, like the Memorial and USDGC. For a realistic Sat/Sunday tourney (for people with jobs) it would be awesome to play one round Saturday, one Sunday, perhaps with a few alternate pin locations, then a final 9 for the top 4 pros and advanced.
Another idea would be to include another course, perhaps devil's glen (the 24 and 12 make a nice 36 hole setup for Saturday), then have assigned tee times for Sunday for the final round at West Lake. Then you wouldn't need a final 9, as the finished ams would be able to watch the pros finish at least the last half of their rounds. The lower divisions could play Devil's Glen and Eastern or Middle Park Saturday, and be included in the tee time format on Sunday. The pros and advanced players would play West Lake, Devils Glen Saturday, then be the later tee times at West Lake on Sunday, with the lead card in Open being the final group to tee Sunday afternoon (or late morning).

Only Devils Glen if they put in the Fall Classic alternates. 12 holes is lame.
cut 6 holes from West Lake then, and make both 18. I'd be fine with that, too, and it would help eliminate a little of the time constraint 24 holes at West Lake created.

Personally, I thought 2 rounds there in one day was alot, but I think 1 round there and 1 round somewhere else would suck as well. I think its a 1 round a day course.
Right, but the way tournaments are growing, one course tourney's are going to be a thing of the past, just to keep up with the growing numbers of people wanting to play.
Look at IA's turnout stats so far this year:
DSM Ice Bowl--------116
Osky--------------------120
Ewing dubs-----------136 (68 teams, added 4 holes)
RCR---------------------120 (sold out Wednesday before the tournament)
The numbers are only going to increase, I don't think we should limit players, if we don't have to. Only option is add a course, right? Let's compete with Bowling Green!
Like I said on some other message boards, we'll probably leave the course layout the way it is. (No one got hit with any discs right - so safety isn't an issue...yet). If we limit the pool that plays that course to 72, that's 3 on a tee for 24-hole and 4 on a tee for 18 holes. Waaay easier to finish in 4 hours. Next year, there WILL be other courses, but right now, I'm working on what they will be. We've got new courses going in in our area, so we've got more options. Or we could also use the other two temp courses I have layed out out there and you'll see how sick I really am.
Just be patient, and once I can get a weekend reserved for this thing, I'll post it so you can mark your calendars... Be sure it will be bigger and better in 2007...

What's the problem with tee-times?
I don't think Am Nat's has EVER filled. Tee-times opens up the possibility of HUGE fields. And there will be huge fields next year. If I have anything to say about it /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif.
Thanks Chad, you are still one sick S.O.B.
