Schweb, are you still throwing Orcs or have you switched to Wraiths or TeeRex's?

Thanks for sharing your experience. i still resist it though (those stockpiled Orcs don't like hearing it) ;)
do others out there who throw used to throw Orcs agree? also, do you throw the Pro wraith, Champ Wraith, or Star Wraith? of the three, i think i found the Champ most to my liking with the little experimenting i did do. however i found the Wraith had a finer line than the Orc between flipping over too much or hyzering and stalling out too soon (although i didn't stay with it long). that's great info you've shared regarding what you've found. feel free to share more :D
also, what color TeeRex would you recommend and is that the Star version? :D
I'm throwing red, max weight Star TeeRexes and a red max weight Star Wraith. All are relatively flat compared to all the others I have held (I was just at the Clearwater Disc Golf Store, which has dozens of each disc in every available color). For some reason, the Star Wraiths hold their stability much longer than the CFR Wraiths, which possess the worst blend of Champion plastic I have ever experienced in terms of durability. Too much filler agent to make that fat #$*&$! mold weigh up I suspect...

I generally throw midranges, but I carry a couple Teebirds, and for long distance throws I have:
2 champ orcs
1 teerex
1 firebird
I hear what you're saying about the wriath though... compared to an orc you really dont get much more distance (at least I don't) but since I've been throwing them for a while I feel much more confident with them than with the wraith.
I think throwing what you are more confident in, and what you know, is much more important than an extra 10 feet. When that differnce gets to 30 or 40 feet then it might be important (ie. Teebirds and Orcs) but accuracy and feel are much more important to me.
Getting back to the Teerex thread:
How does a star starfire throw compared to a star teerex? I have a Teerex, it's OK. Just wondering

I LOVE MY sTTar TT-Rex, it parked a 410 ft hyzer hole into a 10-15 mph headwind to win last weekend in a playoff. My 30th career sanctioned Win. Thank You Innova.
I don't know if Scweb is still throwing Orcs or not, but this is what he said a page or two back.

Star Starfire(x) is a little more resistant to high-speed turn, but does not go as far forward or fade as much as the TeeRex My Champion Starfire seems to be as resistant to high speed turn as the Star version, but fades later therefore going further.

I have had my best and worst drives ever with this disc. Very unpredictable.

I have an orange 172 that is firebird overstable. Held up great in 30 MPH gusts yesterday always came back.
Can I take this statement back? LOL 5 or 6 solid tree hits and its flipping like a jailhouse snitch.

too many discs these days afterall inovva now has a driver named after a supposedly extinct dinosaur. am i the only one who fears were this could lead. i mean soon my bag could have a pterodactyl, triceritops, and a compy in it. meanwhile they are making xds still just nothing like the ones i'm used to. i want the old school xd with that big giant xd stamp on the cover it in the old school dx plastic.

The Champ Orc used to be my #1 distance golf driver.
When the Avenger came out I switched to it because it held up better into a head wind then the Orc and was a hair faster. I also prefered the smaller rim for more accurate drives.
I also carry the CFR Wraith and a Red Star Tee Rex.
The CFR Wraith I will use for pure distance golf drives and for tail wind shots. I use the Tee Rex for anything over 400ft into a head wind. I have found that the dark blue and dark red Tee Rexes to be the most stable and predictable. I have not seen anything but a Star Tee Rex.
In the last distance contest I competed in (Oct '05), The Wraith had only been out for about 2 months so I was still using DX Orcs and DX Beasts. At that time, I threw my farthest distance shot with a DX Orc at 459ft. Again at the same time, my golf distance was approximately 425ft using Champion Orcs. (I use a slightly different variation of an X-step run up to add more rotation to my torso when throwing distance contests shots, hence the difference in the two distances.)
Since then I have started to use CFR Wraiths for my big distance golf shots, and have yet to compete in another distance contest since. However with the CFR Wraith I am now throwing 475ft golf shots, typically getting more then 430ft with a good throw with exception to the occasional "amateur arm" mishap and with a long golf throw of 510ft at the BG Am Championship #9 at White Park. So for my next distance contest at Worlds, I have picked up a set of DX Wraiths which seem to be slightly more overstable then the CFR and Star versions.
So I do think that you can get more distance from the Wraith then the Orc. They are faster discs, and not any more sensitive to inadequate release then any other high speed driver. However, the Wraith will get you in more trouble if thrown improperly. This is the same as the Tee Rex.
Both Wraith and Tee Rex are great discs, but with significantly larger rim widths, throwing them takes getting used to. My main drivers for accuracy(400-430ft) are the Beast and the Avenger though, the smaller rims lend them self to more accuracy for myself due to the grip I can get on them.
However, I have noticed more inconsistency with color stability with the Tee Rex then anyother Innova disc. But in general, the darker colors seem to be more stable then the lighter colors.
Hope this helps.

yeah my red T-REX is sweet i put it 20 feet short on a 494' valley shot that is uphill and hyzer at the finish, and i hit the putt.

I didn't want to quote your small novel there...but you're right....darker Innova plastic for stability....I've also notice this with Millinium plastic as well...espcially with the OFs...it's like night and day!

I have definitely noticed color being an issue.
I have a 172 hot pink Star TeeRex with the first run stamp that flies almost exactly like my 170 hot pink Star Wraith. It likes to flip a bit, and is terrible in the wind.
I also have a 170 dark blue Star TeeRex with the first run stamp that is like a cross between a Star Starfire and Firebird, but longer. Most of the time its great, but will sometimes hyzer out way early.
My 172 baby blue Star TeeRex with the regular stamp seems to be right inbetween the two, but is the most consistent for the combo of distance and fade.
I've found myself using my DX Wraiths for distance, and going to the Star Starfire for headwinds and long hyzers. The TeeRexes might find their way into the bag if I'm hitting a really long, open course with varying wind, but for now they'll stay out.

Used a Pink 175g. Star Teerex alot in DSM this weekend. We had sustained 25+ MPH winds. I flipped it over twice, bot into dead on headwinds and both times it did come back, at the end. I saw everybody flip something, no matter WHO the manufactor was. I wish I had the Red Proto with me, but I dont think it wouldve mattered. It was THAT windy.
Im digging the Teerex for thumbers, also.

They haven't turned over yet into any wind.
I still think the biggest factor is the player.

I find this disc is tough to control on a hyzer line or straight shot. For me to get max D out of a TRX (In a dead wind) I gots to release with annie angle, and throw it high to the left. If I rip it with enough annie and high enough, it'll cross over a whole fairway and finish with a hyzer, dropping to the center. I got it to within 20' of this hole (http://www.local101dg.com/images/HudsonMills/original/orighole4_Backs.jpg) the other day.

if overstable is what you like, the TeeRex and Champion Starfires are sweet. if you want crazy overstable -- i hear Gateway has several viable options. ;)

I heard Avery Jenkins won the Worlds distance competition with a Star TeeRex. Does anyone know what weight and level of wear the disc was that he threw? I know he can pump them out there, but I've never heard of someone throwing something as stable as a new max weight TeeRex for max D.

I would imagine he was throwing it on some sort of anhyzer line. I do know of a guy here with good technique who can snap a rex over, and I'm sure that Avery has that much power.

Avery throws red Teerexs. I gave him one of mine with our Iron Lion Star stamp logo that was 172g. at Illinois States. I handed it to him to throw, as He was BOMBING discs over ball diamonds and fields. Seriously.
He threw it farther than the other Teerexs he was throwing and I told him to keep it if he was going to use it. He said He would in distance competiton. Hopefully that was the one, as I really liked that disc.
That day Avery, Sprague, Mike Robinson, Matt Hall and Matt Orum were BOOMING drives. I saw Matt Orum lay down a roller with a Gateway Oddeyseeyye that is probably still rolling.
One thing I can tell you, when Mike Robinson is standing about 500 ft away, and tells you Averys shots were going far past him, thats really far. One shot ( one with my disc ) went so far they had to go back out and look for it twice.
Hes a monster. This was all after 2 rounds of 27 holes in 90s weather. Unreal.

Its all about the RED star plastic - but don't tell anyone... ;)
My farthest bomb was with a 172 RED Star Tee-Rex (If you look at any of my other posts you will know this, I am really dang proud of it) it was 537' with a range finder, flat ground.
I threw it slightly hyzered (10 - 15 degree dip), it flipped up and turned a good solid 300 hundred, than faded back the last hundred or so. TEE-REX GO FAR.
Avery probably dipps them like we dip Orcs, but he has like 4 inches and 80 lbs on me...
