Going to Lake Charles for a visit and I'm wondering if there are any courses in the area. Any input would be welcome :). Closest one in the course directory is in Vidor, TX.

If the Vidor course is still playable. Haven't exactly heard good things about that course...
Closest real courses (on this side of Lake Charles) are in Beaumont and Port Arthur.
Fuzzy, any insight?

Fuzzy, can you also provide some updates on the Tyrrell Park course in Beaumont? It was a wonderful pro par 60 course that was destroyed by Hurricane Rita.
I think I remember hearing that the Pleasure Island course in Port Arthur was mostly playable again.
I was recently told that the course in Vidor is still playable but you have to kinda object play on a few broken baskets. The baskets out there were made by a local metal shop and are "interesting" to throw at. The course is a pretty decent 9 holer with execption to a hole or two not being all that great. I suggest driving the extra 20 minutes to go to Pleasure Island or Klein Park.
Klein Park Status: The course is all playable since Rita. A few holes have opened up alittle. From all the uprooted trees there is quite a bit of mud out on some areas. The city is about to start a drainage project out there and will be "crowning" all the low lying areas to drain into the main ditch...Should be awesome. Upon the completion of that project we will be redesigning the course. We will be adding few holes into the dense woods(the woods across the ditch that #4 basket is tucked into). Right now we have some of Tyrrells baskets kinda thrown about in the woods and some out on the course just to goof around. There are no teeboxes(some of them would criss-cross existing holes so we dont encourage play on them) so it looks odd to anyone that dont know. If you are there and not with a local then pay no attention to the Yellow baskets.
Tyrrell Park: Gone. We still have a couple baskets left to pick up out there. Only one basket was destroyed by Rita. A few more were destroyed during cleanup. The amount of tree loss out there was tremendous. The flooding from Rita and the brioken waterlines really trashed some areas. It appears(and I have no confirmation at the moment) that the city reworked the waterlines to follow around the circle drive.
The city is being wonderful with us at this time. They have said that if we wish to use the woods area (which is roughly the size of the entire 18 hole course area) then go for it. We have yet to dive into the woods to check it all out. Current tentitive plans are to put in 2 18 hole courses. Going to take some time to be able to do this since we are going to have to purchase 36 new baskets as well as wait until the park has healed a little more.
No issues with PI. The course is a bit different now but back to normal play(okay sometimes normal since 40+mph wind during the tourney can hardly be called normal :) ) So if you"re coming from Lake Charles head on over to Klein or PI to get your DG fix.
Be sure to check out www.GTDiscGolf.com (http://www.GTDiscGolf.com) forums while you are here. Sign up and post when you will be around or any questions you may have about the area. I am sure plenty of peopel will be wiling to show you around.

Wow...thanks for all the info. It makes me want to play just reading it. I assume then that no one knows of any right in Lake Charles?
There used to be a 9 hole course at a church in Lake Charles that is now removed. There was talk awhile back of a private course going in about 10 minutes north of Lake Charles but I haven't heard anything of it in years.
