I have been thinking about this for quite some time. I want to get together with anyone interested and go to a field to practice drives. The time I have spent practicing in fields is probably three times more effecient than practicing on a course, and I would love to help develop some of the advanced/intermediate players into cannon arms and with more confidence in wind and distance.
I have already bought a metering wheel and have cones so what I am thinking is going down to a field with plenty of room to spray right and left and at least 600' in length. I'm going to set up cones at 300', 350', 400', 425', 450', 475', 500', and 525'. I might even bring my basket down and set it at the 400' mark. I'm thinking practicing all the shots (hyzer, anhyzer, roller, s-curve, etc) at all the different distances. Also we can throw eachother's discs that we are curious about (JonB had NEVER thrown a predator till yesterday!?). Stuff like this could have an immense impact on the level of play in San Diego.
Please let me know if anyone is interested in this. I want to make the 619 Alliance as strong as possible, along with improving my own skills.

I would be up for some practice time in a field. I practice putting a couple times a week, but find it hard to practice driving. I have also been trying to fine tune my driving style, because it is very inconsistent and not very efficient. I really want to shorten my approach/footwork to only the essentials. I am not interested in huge distance, accurate to 375' would suit me fine and would work on pretty much every course I have played. By measuring out the distance with the cones, I will be able to see exactly how far I am really throwing and be able to gauge progress (my guess is not much more then 350 currently on a typical drive).
Let me know when and were. I am willing to try new styles and take the advice to better my game. Actually since you can out drive me, I just need to learn your style to hit that 400' mark.

Hey Nation,
I go to Rob Field once a week. Let me know when you'll be going again. I haven't measured anything so that would be really helpful in finding out what distance I can reach. The only thing is I don't always like the high winds out there. Normally it's not that windy during a tournamnet. I'd be great if we could find a big field where it's less windy.

I will help run putting drills! I have about 4 different drills I run twice a week already. I need help on the drives and am willing to listen and try anything when it comes to that aspect of my game. Also, if anyone could teach me how to turn my brain off during a tournament, so I don't distract myself, that would be great as well!

Hey Richard , just seen this :
"I once heard a fellow player tell me at Worlds "Play the course and not the man." He was basically right. Each throw is unique, not dependent on the previous throw, or the next throw to come, or the shot the other dude just made. Play loose and relaxed. I don't keep track of my score during tourneys during the round itself. Just try to make a relaxed throw on every shot. Breathing easy is important, as someone mentioned earlier, prior to each release. Breath easy and be loose."

My basket spits out putts from 20 feet away that are flying 10 mph! 300 feet away and 30 mph +, I am amazed it didn't knock the basket over or cut it in half!
Ryan thanks for the tips and keep them coming.

I have some homemade explosives left-over from a couple years ago that I found while I was moving. Maybe we could blow it up?
Take it out to the desert and have a little ace competition. First one to get a disc to stick from 300' gets the honors of lighting the fuse. Then again, that might take too long!

You need to rig it up with explosives , so when a disc does hit it from 300+ , it disintegrates  :D
That poor little basket does need some assistance though. :D

Due to popular demand field practice is returning this thursday. I'll be running a casual field practice for driving for anyone who wants to show up.
The format will be the same as is has been in the past. We'll have one cone setup at 250' to practice upshots, then another cone every 50' past that till 500' to practice distance. Come and practice with us!
4:30 @ Dusty Rhodes Park in Ocean Beach (the park on the left when you come into OB).
If anyone needs more information, feel free to contact me.
