There is only 1 truly clear Champion Roc this year. It is 180 grams, carries the Eye Roc design, and is the only disc that was ghost stamped (transparent). A live phone auction for this disc started today at Innova East. It will run until March 8th, 06. The proceeds will go directly to EDGE, the Educational Disc Golf Experience. The opening bid was $200. You will be able to follow the bidding at http://usdgc.com/. More Roc info on the way.

I type the above and go check my mail to find:
Dear ZD Friends,
After carefully considering a myriad of variables, we have decided to push the USDGC Champion Roc release back by 1 week. There are a handful of very compelling reasons as to why this makes sense. Several of which are virtually impossible to sufficiently explain via email. Regardless, we are in better position than ever for our smoothest release to date. That said, here are your new critical dates:
Wednesday, March 8 - 12:00pm EST - Official Roc Release
Wednesday, March 15 - Second orders may be placed (50 disc maximum)
Wednesday, March 22 - Orders may be placed with no minimum
Questions may be sent to me, or to the Innova Eastern Sales office at 800.476.3968.
Thanks for your patience,

Wednesday, March 22 - Orders may be placed with no minimum
Is there like a 2 disc minimum on the earlier orders ??? :D
xterramatt
Feb 28 2006, 05:57 PM
50 disc MAXimum on initial purchases. 50 disc MAXimum on March 15th orders. No maximum on orders after March 22nd.
Let me clarify that:
On March 8th thru March 14th, you can order no more than 50 discs total. If you initially order 30 discs on March 8th, then want to buy 20 more on the 10th, you can do that. On March 15th, (the Ides of March), the counter resets (Just like on Lost). You can again purchase UP TO 50 discs (not to exceed 50 MORE discs by March 21st), this would count multiple orders within the week.
There is no minimum. OK, there is a minimum of 1. :)
So how many are you going to get? 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, or 42?
rhett
Feb 28 2006, 06:07 PM
I paid double shipping last year because I had the four discs I wanted in my cart and I wanted to get them before I went back and shopped what was left.

I'm fine with them delaying these sales a week. If it means we don't have to deal with the problems of last year. Will the new zonedriven site be up prior to next Wednesday? Unfortunatly, you can only do so much internal testing to find bugs. Eventually, you have to unleash it on the public to find the rest. (That's comming for someone who designs for a living).

my brother owns a web development company (everythign in-house, graphics, custom templates, coding, networking, server stuff etc) and he has to tell his clients the same thing.

Folks ordering Rocs at http://zonedriven.com/ next Wednesday at noon will use the Express checkout. You will not need or be able to create a personal ZD account during this time. You will enter your shipping/billing info upon check out.
We would like to thank USDGC Roc purchasers in advance for their sponsorship and support of the 2006 United States Disc Golf Championship.
USDGC Rocs go on sale today 12 noon et @ http://zonedriven.com/. Here a few things to remember when ordering:
*The maximum purchase is 50 Rocs. You can order 50 more on March 15th providing there are still Rocs left.
*We will be offering Express Checkout this year so an account will NOT be required.
*If you have your eye on a particular weight, color, stamp combo and are ordering online, you may want to get it in your cart and check out as quickly as possible. The longer you take to shop, the greater the risk of discs selling out before you can get them. Discs are not guaranteed until you have checked out. In other words, just putting them in your cart does not "hold" them.
*The Clear Roc auction has been extended to Wednesday March 15 5pm et. The current bid is $600.
*Visa, MasterCard, and American Express are accepted. Discover in not accepted.
*Pay Pal is not an option this year.
*Allow 2 weeks to receive your order.

We are still investigating various issues, but here is some guidance:
0) If you receive an error message, you probably need to resubmit your order.
1) If you received an e-mail confirmation that your order was processed, you are good to go.
2) If you did not receive an e-mail confirmation yet but did not receive any error messages, you are probably good to go. There seems to be some delay in the e-mail confirmation process.
I will continue to provide more information and guidance as it becomes available.

Whether you're at the mall, at that boutique you've been dying to peruse or just at your desk visiting a great new online shopping site for the very first time, try not to have your credit card within reach. Your willpower won't be at its very strongest at the moment, and just a minute's walk across the house to your wallet could make the difference between a year's worth of finance charges and a pat on the back in a few days -- which is about when this urge will have passed."

I went with a couple popular ones...
177 Orange Throwback
180 Blue Celt
I just hope the blue SB feels like my 2005 SB. All I wanted was to have a backup for it, and a more overstable counterpart. I had an '05 glow and didnt like the way it felt. Too flat. Hopefully this throwback feels a little better.

I got to touch a couple of SB's last night. I saw some difference from disc to disc...one beauty was super stiff and grippy compared to one of same weight and color feeling more like the pro material.
I tried hiding the stiff disc, but he caught me. :D

Is there a website that shows how many of each disc came out like there was last year?
It used to be at http://www.zonedriven.com/roc_art_2006.html but it doesn't look like its up anymore.
I too would like to know when the X-outs will be aviailable. I want to know if i should go ahead and throw my ones coming in Monday or if i can wait for the X's :)

Are any of you guys getting tracking confirmations or billings on your credit cards yet? i haven't received either and was just wondering if my order really went through...
Already received mine. Got shipping confirm and tracking info on wed. The SBs do not feel the same as the original 2005 SBs. Gummier and not as stiff. Nice though. Although I'm sure some people hanging them on their walls will have some complaints about paying top dollar for discs that appear less than perfect (typical SB/Star visual imperfections). I throw mine and don't care. I love the star plastic.

Mar 10 2006, 09:14 PM
the SBs are the same as the prereleases at the usdgc.
dave was refering to them as semi-ontario rocs. not sure what that means though
: ) :
After comparing the new SBs to the original SBs I noticed that they do apear to have slightly different noses. I'm guessing that they will be more overstable than the originals just like the most recent spectator rocs. I think the originals may become very sought after, as it seems there may not be a comparable replacement. My 180 red Celtic is much gummier and flopier than my 177 original red SB rocs. This is not to say that I won't like the new ones. I'm sure I will. I'm just glad I have four of the originals.

here is a little news to make everything more interesting.
my roommate came home tonight wiht his new SB Rocs. one is like mine. the other is the same as the original '05 SB. dommier, stiffer plastic. and the different nose. strange, wonder how many there are like that, cause i want them.
: ) :
My pink star baby roc is more like the original SBs than my red SB celtic. It's stifer and domier. Still not the same though. Not that it was supposed to be.

Just some friendly advise and a few words about ROC day.
It's alot better to get ahold of Zonedriven either through email or by phone if you have a question or concern about your ROC order rather than posting on the message board.
I've been fortunate to be a vendor that lives close to the warehouse and I've been down there the last 4 years around ROC time. Not only do the folks down there bust thier humps getting the ROC orders ready but they are also carrying on normal business. Fulfilling regular orders, billing, shipping, sponsorship responsabilities, and everything else that goes along with running the biggest Disc company out there. And most of them don't have the time during the day to constantly check the message boards. But if you contact them then they are always willing to help out as much as they can.

They are busy as bees down there. I called them the next day on a custom disc order and everyone seemed a little tired.

Anyone else thrown the '06 champ, glo, or star rocs?
moolie
Mar 16 2006, 05:36 PM
I had the opportunity to huck my beautifull black and gold 180 star Roc and it is a nice stable to over stable disc. I would say it is more stable than the previouse years special blends most likely due to its Rancho VS Ontario mold. It flies similar to my beat in 01 Roc which will go back in my bag when the snow melts.
Furthur
Mar 16 2006, 06:28 PM
How do the 06 SB compare to the Spectator SB? I've only got to throw the Spectator twice, and it was very stable with less fade than the 05 SB. Is this what I can expect from the 06's?

I've got a 2005 SB, 2006 SB, and 2006 star in my bag right now, and I'll probably see what I think about them. For some reason, the flight plate on the 2006 SB feels thinner than the 2005 SB. I don't know whether this is a difference in the molds (Ontario vs. "Semi-Ontario") or differences in the mixture of the plastic.

save all five and buy a Q-sentinel.
Pennywise, How does the Q-sentinel compare to a Z Wasp? How do they hold up? I've broken in several Z Wasps now, and they have a great right turn flight path after broken in. I'm wondering how long it takes for the QS to break in and loose it's overstable characteristics (like ALL overstable mid-range discs do eventually).
El_Verdad. You are not the first to buy a stack of USDGC Rocs and wonder, which one you should choose to throw? Last year, I heard the same thing about the glows you are hearing this year. I pulled one [05 KC Glow] out of my stash, and threw it a few rounds. I liked the way it flew, but I had a hard time finding it occasionally because of the color or should I say lack of color in glow plastic, so I boxed it. A couple months later, a player at our course asked if I had any glow Rocs, I said yes, I have one that is used, but in good shape. He offered me $40 bucks for it. Sold!
The only way you are going to find out if you like one plastic over the other is to get it out and play with it. If you are fairly careful, or not, and its a valuable disc to another player (collector or someone who just loves that plastic), its still going to be worth more than you paid for it, dings or no-dings. (Or if for some reason you know something that everyone else doesnt know that a particular disc is going to be worth mega-bucks someday, which I doubt you or anyone else knows FOR SURE dont throw any of them.)
This year, I bought at least two (or more) of the USDGC discs that I think Im going to want to throw (heavy Baby Star plastic), and a few collector discs that I will keep in plastic for years.
Last year, I stocked up on 05 Special Blends, which I LOVE to throw, and Im glad I have a few in reserve now not that I need them, the 05 SB is one of the toughest discs I throw and mine is almost as stable (and ding free) as it was when I began throwing it a year ago.
Hope this helps but if not, I guarantee you are not the only person wondering which of his/hers special Rocs you want to throw.

Let me help you understand since it sounds like you haven't thrown the clear champion rocs and the glow rocs. Stop, read, ponder...don't answer to hear yourself type. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
---for the people that have thrown the 06 clear rocs and the 06 glow rocs, which model will be most overstable? No speculations, no guesses.
If you threw the 05 champ and glow champs last year, the glows were more overstable...even though they were the same mould. I know this. I also know that every run is alittle different.
What I don't know is how the 06 fly, not how they're supposed to fly.

From other top pros and myself can pretty much say the Glows are the most stable of all nex to the 01 roc. Next would be Champion/Clear then SB. As far as 06 rocs I will find out this weekend.

The most stable CE ROC is the glo CE ROC any year. Most stable meaning harder to flip with the greatest end fade.
List of CE ROC stability.
Glo any year
01
03 through 06 clear
Star
02
SB
Glo CE ROCS will also be the most durable (straight from the folks at Innova)
Disclaimer - this is a list of normal flight characteristics of the disc. Please take into account that no 2 golfers throw the same and might experience different flights based on a number of fluctuations. Speed, snap, angle of release, altitude, wind, whether you purchased an 04 or before that was at the bottom of the case before Innova started using stickers to prevent suction etc.. etc..

Exactly! I have a 179 lime TB that is dark green, a 179 lime eye that is neon or dayglo, anyone else not sure if they have a pink or light red, I have an xout that i'm not sure if its pink or light red, I do have red champions that are much darker than it, but i have also seen very light pink.

thats not as bad as geting 15 discs out of your order of 31 (with about 7 replacements of the 15) because they forgot to ship your order

I love the variety of the pinkies...I'm throwing the highlighter pink and "walling" the lighter, pink lemonade 180 eye.
My grass green with a redeye stamp looks nice looking back at me on my window sill at work (although no one has been able to figure out what it is yet, except one guy from a couple that were looking at a Jetta...yep, they bought!)
He asked if a champion roc came with the purchase of a new car....I couldn't let one of my first's go....but I'm getting ahold of David at ZD today and getting him one.
It's the least I can do....now that's customer service! :D

need help:
if i throw my blue 05 SB Roc how will it compare to my red 06 Spectator SB? i know the 06 are semi-Ontario-like and the 05 are more Ontario-like. how much less stable are the 05's and do they have less fade and/or more hi-speed turn?
...it is a tough decision whether to pull that blue 05 SB Roc down off the wall...

Here's my 2006 Roc experiance so far.
Ordering was much faster and easier. I got my order in within the first 20 minutes. I never got a confirmation email but my credit card showed authorization for the four discs I ordered. After 8 days, I got a call from Zonedriven that there was a problem with my disc order and they did not have the 180 Blue Throw Back disc I ordered. Said they would either find a 178+ blue one or fix me up some othere way. Was told they would make it right. Discs got in Wednesday (two weeks after ordering) and overall, I give the whole process an A-. I got a 179 Blue Throwback, a 179 Ice Blue (instead of 180) Eye stamp, and orange and yellow Baby Rocs at 180g. Almost exactly what I ordered and they are all sweet. It worked better than the last two years so I'm a happy customer.
How do they throw you may ask? I have thrown the Blue 179g Thrown Back and the 180g yellow Star Baby Rock 8 times each on a football field at 5100 ft (Western Colorado). Each throw was between 300-350 feet (actual distance since it's easy to measure on a football field).
I found that the Champion Roc (Throw Back) threw about like the 04 and 05 Champion Rocs. Pretty straight for 2/3 of the flight before hyzering out noticably. Did not really have a high speed turn but a straight flight. Over time my 04 and 05 Rocs have beaten into a nice straight line with some fade at the end but they started out pretty overstable at the end of the flight.
Pretty similar with the 180g Star (Baby Roc) but with a couple of differences. It felt like it had a little more glide and did not fade quite so hard at the end. It had no high speed turn and started its fade a shade farther (about 3/4) in the throw than the Champion plastic Roc. I got slightly better distance with the Star Roc too but based on only eight throws apiece I would not say that's a sure thing. I do not know which will "beat in" faster but I'll start that on the course this afternoon.
I threw them both turned over and they both S-turned out of it. However, I'm at 5000ft+ so things flies more overstable up here. Either way, these discs are what I want to throw and collect so I'm psyched. I only wish my "Ice" Eye stamp was more Ice with less Blue. Still a cool looking disc but it seems to be a fine line between calling a disc Ice Blue or Blue in color. Oh well...Max happy .
Thanks Zonedriven and Innova! I hope to throw well enough at Ft. Morgan, in June, to qualify :D for the tournament I'm a sponsor of again.

Thanks for the feedback on your Rocs Max. It's nice to read a post from someone who's straight up with the info, i.e. no games.
I have had about the same results throwing here in Carbondale, except as you can imagine, at 6170 ft. things fly a tad more stable than in Montrose. I'm very happy with the Roc's I got ... all are exactly what I ordered, and zonedrivens customer service was excellent. I have to say the most beautiful Roc I got was a dark purple "blueberry" throwback stamp (blueberry with silver stamp). This thing is the sweetest Roc I have ever seen and looks great next to my blueberry and gold Star SL.
I will only be throwing one of my 179 Star [yellow] Rocs. I throw an '05 Super Roc that works great for me when I need an overstable Roc.
PS. I got one of those blue "ice" Rocs too ... and was also a little disappointed to see how blue it was. Not really and "ice" color IMO. But it's still pretty cool.

Don't hate the player, hate the game.... /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif ;)
Thanks for the ambiguous posts & two sleepless nights of agony whenst trying to figure if I should throw the glow and settle for max overstable-ness with no cool colors or take a chance throwing my pinky eye and not being happy with the overstability.
I only played games with those that play with me...right Mr. Egger? ;)

So I posted earlier that I thought the 06 Rocs were similar to the last two years in overall flight based on a few throws on a footbal field. Then, I went and threw a round after work with the two Rocs mentioned in the above post and I have to change my overall view of how they fly. The two Rocs are a 179 Blue Throwback Stanp and a 180 Yellow Star Roc. There was a slight 8-15mph wind affecting my shots.
Overall I would say they are more stable (meaning to fly straighter, longer) than the 04 and 05 Rocs I've bought. In other words, they are not "stable pigs" (meaning overstable) as some people refer to discs. During the round, they still did not have much, if any, high speed turn but also did not come back as hard (slow speed turn) as the previous years' Rocs. I would almost compare them to a new Buzz (hope the Discist people who only throw one companies plastic don't recoil in disgust ).
Overall, both still great discs and I still think the Star Rocs are straighter (Less slow speed fade) than the Champion Rocs. I just feel they stay on a line longer before fading than I thought while throwing them on a football field. If I was going to throw a shot for an overstable midrange (and had to throw one of my Champ Rocs), I would probably reach for my 05 Champion Roc because the 04 Roc is a little too beat up and the 06s are less overstable than both. If I wanted to turn over a disc and have it hold the line for a long time, I'd go for one of the new 06s (probably the Star). If y'all want overstable pigs, you better go with Glows of most years (So I hear, but have little experiance with). If ya want a disc to hold the line you put it on with a little fade at the end, enjoy this year's discs. Hope this helps those of who want to throw only a few of your discs and "invest the rest". Sorry it wasn't in time to help you El V!. :( Just got 'em the other day and have been too sick to field test 'em.
Happy Roc chuckin!

I felt that my 180 star was very, very stable in flight with little to no high speed turn...of course it was one of those very windy days...
even in those winds ( I tried both head and tail winds) the glo was the most overstable but suffered in glide vs the standard champion.
I think I'll stick with my gator for my NASCAR (LH turn only) disc and my pink eye ( i love saying that! :D) for the tunnel shots...

Just a quick note to say that my rocs rock. The glo was great this weekend for low-speed S shaped approaches, the champ pinkeye was dead on, and I tried a new SB as a turnover disc...with a few more rounds under it's belt, it's going to be a great turnover roc....it's got potiential.
Also, my friend was throwing a 166 champ eye in mild wind and it wouldn't flip into flat like we suspected. Even the lighter wiehgts are overstable.
Great job on the rocs this year!!!
