Many people pay dues, and a lot of them expect a place to learn about disc golf without running into foul language.

It's a kinder gentler board, and it's coming whether you (or I or even Rhett) like it or not.

He's just trying to do what he was told to do when he took over the job. Give him a break.

It's Rhett's way or the highway.

Oh, since Rhett deleted all the helpful info, and stuff about this tourney, could someone repost the format. Thanks, and btw, I still need a partner.
I'm with you Hutch, this may be my 1st and last year as a PDGA member. Not because of the whole discussion board thing, but many other factors.
Making the 2 meter rule a special condition was what rubbed me the wrong way. The rules committee is going in the wrong direction.

Oh yeah, and all the Hitler-esque admins. Who watches the watchers?
Rhett, if you get pulled over speeding do they take away your car and burn it? No, so don't apply that principle to the message board.
And don't punish innocent people. That thread was very inciteful. I guess the lazy way is to just delete the whole thread instead of actually censoring it. Way to go, buddy.

Deleting an entire thread for an upcoming tournament is a little harsh based on a few random symbols in the name.

I agree with the previous poster, why not just re--name the thread???

Why did the entire thread have to be deleted? :(

twoputtok
Feb 23 2006, 10:51 AM
Its because Rhett has made it his personal crusade to watch over the Tulsa threads like a hawk. For reasons unkown to us, he has become our own personal watch dog. :(

I guess it makes him feel like a person of great importance to have that much power and be able to delete, modify, suspend or remove users, depending on his mood that day.

I use the example of the Norman thread, one user used more fowl language in on small paragraph than I though was possible and even went so far as directly placing one of those words as a reference to Rhett himself.
What was done about this action? Rhett deleted the post only. Was the user banned? No!

I use one bad word and get booted with no warning? That's real consistancy Rhett.

Did he take down the whole thread that cursed him? No!

But he didn't like the header of a Tulsa thread, so the best thing to do is delete the entire thread, by the way that thread had a lot of good information.
Oh, but he did do us a favor and recreated it for us.
Gee, thanks Rhett.

My biggest problem with his actions is his lack of consistancy. I understand his goal of cleaning up the discussion board and I can abide by it. As I have done since he banned me form the board with no warning for the use of the word fecally.(best way I could put it without being banned again)

Rhett, be consitant and quick using your authority to pick and choose who or what club you have decided to screw with.

It's a way for him to finally feel cool, and the only way to keep himself from being proven wrong.

Here is how it goes.

Step 1) Abolish a post for the reason that it directly criticizes you.
2)Say that it was due to offensive language.
3)After you do this, wait for someone to complain about it and then , (and this is the key), Ignore them completely. Being sure to never, under any circumstance, give them the benefit of a response.

Hunter - tough shot (co-ed will play a modified alternate shot)

Thanks Rhett. I just want you to know that all of us DG'ers here in Tulsa are happy that you are making the sacrifice to stay up late and weed out the WMD from our board. I'm sure our PDGA State Coordinator, Kevin McCoy, knew the consequence of using "%^#$" in the header of the GCD tournament thread. But he did it anyway.... :(... The next thing you know formats are posted, members start communicating, people start looking for partners. Basically the type of thing that occasionally happens on the affiliate club forums.

Maybe Bush should take lessons from your "Scorched Earth" policy. Instead of sending our people over there to fight the bad guys why don't we just nuke the whole place? Yea, we'll kill some innocent women and children but so what. We're bound to get a few bad guys in the process?

Instead of editing the header and punishing the individual you decided to nuke the whole thread. Good for you. Why worry about any good information that may have been there or the members that had taken the time to post it. You weren't going to play in that tournament anyway. Did you ban Kevin McCoy? Did you send him a dirty PM? Should we impeach him from his State Coordinator Position? You're probably right. That guy is scaring away members who may want to post here. Let alone all the potential sponsors.

I heard at one time Hooters restaurant was willing to be a sponsor of the Am Worlds this year but the PDGA turned them down. Something about not wanting to have the PDGA associated with young athletic women and buffalo wings. Maybe Enron or Martha Stewart Enterprises is more our style. Seems to me that I'm a sponsor. At least that's what it said on that letter that came the other day with my new membership card. I'm also one of the less than 22% of PDGA sponsors who voted in last years election and for twenty-five grand I can even get my name on a course in Georgia. Well I'll write a provision for that in my will.

I understand and agree with you and PDGA wanting to clean up some of the trash on the board. I just think that you could use a little more common sense when it comes to deleting entire tournament threads. You are becoming the new Gladis Kravit's and you are lacking consistency in what you do from one day to the next. Do you want to ban "Thread Drift" also? You should see all the thread drift on the new GCD thread you created after you deleted the original. Now everybody is going to have to wade through 2 or 3 pages of PDGA sponsors talking about you.

You want to improve the image of the sport? Get a drug sniffing dog and start drug testing at all your tournaments. If the player runs.....he's guilty.... :o... You need another idea? Report all the pro winnings to the IRS just in case the players forget to claim it on their taxes. Show Uncle Sam that the PDGA loves him too. And don't leave out those Am baggers who win all the time and turn around and sell their plastic in the parking lot. We got one of those guys down here already. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Hey I appreciate the board and would hate to see it go but before you and the BOD go off somewhere and vote to get rid of it, don't forget about who sponsors the PDGA. I'm not trying to legalize curse words. I just wish that you could use a little common sense in the way you are handling your position.

Feb 23 2006, 06:48 PM

Try to sway us with reasonable argument.

Here is the deal, you just leave to Tulsa thread alone. People can ask questions and learn and grow and all that who-ha somewhere else on the board.

Here are the Message Board rules that you agree to abide by when you come on here:
Remember: you are in a public forum, talking to your fellow disc golfers. Behave accordingly. Disagreements are fine; personal attacks are not. This DISCussion board is first a foremost a PDGA resource for PDGA members.
The basic rule of thumb for posting here is this: Don't post anything that you might get warned or stroked about during competitive, santioned PDGA play. In other words, the courtesy rules apply here as well as during a PDGA event. Another basic rule of thumb is that on the Internet you need to be twice as nice on line to have any chance at all of people knowing, from your postings, that you are as nice as you are in person.

This PDGA-sponsored board does not guarantee freedom of speech. Messages containing profanity, inflammatory comments, or other offensive content may be removed at the discretion of the board monitors. Individuals who persist in this behavior may be barred from future posting.

Respect others' time and energy. If a posting would be better served by direct email to the author, contact them directly. Commercial posts are not allowed and will be removed. If you would like to carry on a conversation, please use the chat room.

The PDGA does not officially monitor the message board. For questions directed to the PDGA office, the PDGA Board of Directors, or a PDGA committee, use the the "Contact" link from the main menu on PDGA pages. While PDGA representatives may post on the board from time to time, they are posting as individuals, and their opinions as expressed here do not necessarily reflect those of the PDGA.

This forum is provided by the PDGA for the use and enjoyment of disc golfers. If you have complaints about any content on the board, please use the feedback form and let us know.

Yes, Rhett is trying. I value that Rhett is trying to clean up the board, but I think his methods may not be the right way to go about it. Deleting entire posts and temporarily banning people is one way to do it, the extreme way. Not doing anything is the other extreme. There has to be some middle ground whereby Rhett can let people know the consequences of their actions without punishing EVERYONE.

I think people are getting the word.

And not everyone is getting "punished".

Tips for not losing posts: don't reply to a post that has profanity in it.

The tools available provide only one option: delete a post and all replies go with it. That's it. There is no "pull this post out of the middle" option.

Sometimes the offendin posts don't get noticed for a while, making for a big landslide when it does get noticed.

I would suggest that instead of making the assumption that I am punishing everyone that you take a more pro-active approach and PM the offending poster and ask that they edit their post. That way you can help prevent a section of the thread from disappearing at a later date.

Thanks.

Well if you care to look at my profile, you can see that my last name is Duke, and my first name is Gary. It shouldn't take a great leap of logic to guess that my middle might start with an N. It's the same login name I started with when I started msssing with computers some 25 years ago.

I personally feel strongly about this topic, and don't see why Rhett should bear the burden alone. This is a private board, first amendment rights have no bearing on what can or can't be said here. The rules were available to read when everyone of us agreed to them by signing up. Just because the enforcement of those rules was lax until now, is not a good argument that it should continue to be so.

I'm not saying the rule is good or bad, just that it is the way it is.

Alright,
I have heard enough.....
Yes we pay for the privilige to post on this board.
But, this Discussion Board is hosted by the PDGA.

Therefore...
They have a right to make and enforce rules of its use.
And you agreed to those rules when you signed up to use the board.
<font color="red"> It seems some of you have changed your mind about following those rules. <font color="black">

If you don't like it go start your own discussion board somewhere else.

Sorry guys, get over it, grown up and move on.

Have a nice day.

Let the !*#$ Talk begin! Again.

Who are the teams to beat in Advanced?

You have team baggage: Crutch and Lund.

Then there a couple of young and old teams: Nicholson/Owens and Townsend/Bougher.
Both of these kids have strong enough backs to carry these veteran advanced players. :o

There are a couple of jokers coming up from Texas to look out for.
But, I am sorry PJ, you and Brad won't be contending for 1st.

How about Conners and Wagle? Finished 2,2,1 in doubles competition last year. But hey, that was last year.

What about me and my mystery partner, could I actually be considered a contender? We shall see.

.
... co-rect ... the PDGA points values never seemed to "pan out" correctly in past years for "mixed" or "coed" Teams ... some were Pro ... some were Am ... a man of one level ... a woman of another ...
.
... ergo , habit has been to include the Division in a PDGA sanctioned Doubles tournament ; let 'em play and compete ; but not sanction that Division ...
.
... that's why Okie Doubles shows 190-something players for 2005 ; when in fact we ran 206 Players ...

Believe me I know all the reasons behind the mixed teams not being sanctioned. That is one of the reasons we do not have to pay the PDGA fee.

However my question is are the Mixed Teams being considered AMS in regards to PLAYERS PACKS.

Or to put it another way, if Mixed Teams sign up early and are one of the first 80 teams, are we going to receive a players pack????

I think I can safely answer for him since I am holding all of the mechandise for players packs and I know what the count is. Kev made an honest mistake, we had talked and I informed him 80 players, he simply made the mistake of stating 80 teams. We didn't even have 80 teams last year or the year before.
I can aslo safely state that all players will be taken care of, the first 80 players a little more taken care of. ;)

Doe this answer it to your satisfaction?

Thanks for clearing this up Wise.

There was never a question of the players being taken care of, the Tulsa club always does a good job of that.

Weather is going to be AWESOME!

Sat. High 77 Winds s-sw 10-15
Sun. High 79 Winds s-sw 10-15

Since I am running this event I am going to incorporate some things I would like to see changed in the PDGA.

1. Your cards will be determined by score not division. This will happen until the last round and then you will be back in your division. So the 1st - 3rd rounds you may be on a card with Adv and Masters, but you both will have similar scores.

2. You have already seen Entry Fee hikes for Adv players. If you are "ADVANCED" then you are serious about the game so you should pay entry fees that will make ya serious. Plus I'm trying to bridge the gap between Pro and Adv entry fees to not make the differece in prices between Adv and Pro be so much

3. Awards- We will only recognize the top 3 in each division. If you finish 9th in the Adv division don't expect to be called up. It wastes to much time and if you finished 9th you LOST :o

4. $3 from each of your entry fees goes into the PDGA AM WORLDS VOLUNTEER FUND! This fund will feed and pay for prizes for all the people who volunteer for the AM WORLDS.

5. Expect to see "other" goodies in your prizeouts other than just discs. The Rec division will be a random payout. This is to eliminate the SANDBAGGING effect. The winner will get their trophies but not necessarily get prizes. Each card no matter if your first or last card will have a winner.

ALL AM DIVISIONS are receiving a players pack worth $25

letho

I love your idea about groupings...if an advanced team shoots the same score as a pro team you might get carded with them.

Way to switch things up for the better, McCoy!

Well, Hutch and Lund took advanced, I am not sure if they covered the spread though.
Conners/Wagle 3rd;
Myself and Ganzel: top 5.
Brad/PJ: last place cash.

I think that it was pretty much the Hatfield/Pennington Clinic in Open.

And team Conners took 2nd in INT.

Sorry, that is about all that I can remember; I sat too close to furdog at awards and got drunk off of his breath.

On a serious note:

You, Tulsa, are creating the World Championships.

Courses, payouts, scheduling, all the paperwork, TDs, spotters, volunteers.
Every one of you have the oppurtunity to say
"I helped make that"

So put your heart into it, jump in do what you can, work until you sweat and bleed....only then is the rest of the country and the world going to look at the Am Worlds in Tulsa and say
"You guys put a lot of love into this"

the 06 Green Country Doubles is in the books the Event was boocoo Fun to play in and also well-run props to Kevin , Jose , Courtney , and others who helped out making it a great TDSA Club Tournament Im sure that our AmWorlds funding got a big boost from this Event
.
the new layout at Haikey got some great run , and were able to evaluate many factors of the Course now McCoy & I have already talked a bit about some tweaking around for safety & flow issues and Ill start into some small-stump removal as well
.
but this kinda work has no real rush on it focus now needs to shift back over to Mohawk & Dovillio check with Wise , McCoy , or Jerry Stacey to find how you can best volunteer to help This Weekend , March 18 & 19 , could see some real progress toward completion

We were halfway through our round when we saw Howard peeling out of McClure...funny how word spreads cuz 2 holes later word spread out that Stacey and Dine got really #$*&$! off at each other and quit, they walked away in separate directions....funny thing is the same thing happenned to an advanced team on Saturday at Hunter. I heard one guy got all over his partner for throwing out of bounds and the dude was like screw you, I'm outta here!!

Classic stuff!!

Great job to the tournment staff; Kevin and Courtney turned out to be a great TD combo. Not to mention they had the likes of Power TD Jose Mendoza giving them a hand. What an awesome team of TD's!!

I didn't get to see either one personally, but the second one mentioned here was DEFINITELY a poor showing (the partner that stayed came directly to our card at Hunter to whine about it.) I guess one guy (an am who moved up) threw OB and his partner (a pro who moved down) gave him the 'what for' and the am partner said "I don't like your attitude, cut it out or I'm quitting" and the pro partner said "go ahead" and on and on and on and on and on. Course, that's just one side of it. Can't imagine bailing on a partner during the second round of a 4 round tourney, but sure was nice to see Frederick, hadn't seen him in awhile :D

My partner and I are both sucky golfers but we finished

Yea, I've probably seen more disc golfers divorced from their doubles partners for bad play than from their wives for playing too much. :o

Its like a live version of the Jerry Springer show out on the fairway. :D

It's funny how upset golf makes a person? :p

Hey Paul, it was great getting a round in with you and J at Hunter on Saturday, I really enjoyed it. Remember the capture the flag game going on in the woods? I could not believe the size of the game and how intense they were about it.

MC, I loved getting on your card. Usually that only happens on the first round! Like I said re: the kids, too....I don't remember the last time I had as much fun as they appeared to be having. They were fun to watch.

Sorry, I couldn't resist. It's just too funny.
Some guy gave me the idea from the 3rd floor window of the Motel 6 in Cedar Hill and it became a regular source of ent.

Somehow Dig's SDG magnet flew off of his truck and stuck on my new car. Let dig know I will send him the bill for any damage to the paint.
