Lots of people I play with carry mp3 players or XM radio when playing a casual round. I'm thinking of getting a player myself and was wondering if anyone could recommend some good portable speakers (preferably that run off AA batteries).
I recommend you eshew any plans for this 'antisocial hardware' and instead focus on how fortunate you are to be
1. Alive and outside
and
2. Capable of playing the beautiful game.
...besides, it's a distraction to you and others, and isn't in the interest of safety.

I've always wondered if that would be a good way to tune out distractions and get in a zone. the volume would need to be low enough that i could safely hear what was going on 'outside' -- but now that i am past 40 volume seems more like a way to ruin your hearing than a way to rock out. i wonder if playing the Yessongs version of Yours Is No Disgrace wouldn't light my putting on fire... ? :D
then again, reality seldom lives up to theory... /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
do any top NT Pros have music in their ears while they play?
... the *best* music setup for the course? Eric Johnson playing live ...

Some great music for the course would be Tab Benoit. His cd, "The Wetlands" or "The Sea Saint Sessions" are pretty good.
As for speakers...I have seen a lot of different types.
I have heard these...and they are pretty good. Speaker link. (http://www.buy.com/retail/product.asp?sku=10348006&SearchEngine=Shopper&Sear chTerm=10348006&Type=PE&Category=Comp&Gad=0&dcaid= 15889)
And as for you Slo...glad I don't have to play a round with you. Unless your comments were in humor...then I apologize for making a snap judgement.

The iPod is under scrutiny from consumer assoications in america becuase of the excessive decible levels in the american iPods.
It seems that American versions go up to 130db, while international versions only go up to 110db.
To me, the simple solution is to turn it down.
I don't listen to music while I am playing, the cables would distract me, but if I did. Nothing but Weezer. That is usually blasting in my car on the way to the course prior to warmup.

I listen when I am throwing and I run the headphone up throught my shirt. After I throw I take one on the earphones out so I can talk and people don't think I am being a punk. I can here when I have them on but people seem to think you can't here then so I take them out. :D

When i was learning to swing the "Stix" in the 80's. I use to wear a walkman and the Older guy's on the course were just amazed that i could play with music in my head while swinging the stix. I told them that with music in my head i did'nt think about my swing /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif it worked for me in ball golf.
I think as long as you can hear your group if they ask a question or something. It should not be a problem. my.02

As for the sanity of the other golfers on the course....
Please don't get speakers...lets keep it civil.
We've got people that think their music is what everyone should listen to and so they blast it. It's only going to cause problems when you give the idea that everyone should carry their own music around and then a nice peaceful course turns into the speaker room at best buy...country, classical, death metal all clashing into a sonic trainwreck while I putt.

Please please please get headphones rather than speakers. It is really agitating when people play their music out loud on speakers at the course, it's also quite rude.

Either that or carry an aluminum baseball bat , atleast 34oz. will do. You also need to swing both left and right handed !!!!! Love to hear that sound of a freshly popped coconut / melon sound !!!!

I really don't mind speakers in casual rounds, but if you listen to music in tournament, put on some headphones or get ready for me to take your batteries whilst your putting :)
