Dang it. I don't want to have to pay another $250+ for Rocs again this year.
But I have to. Please don't tell my wife.
All the stamps look sweet. All the plastics sound killer. I need one of each type plastic in each color, plus several pink Star Rocs.
How much is 50 times $25, anyway?

$1250
Why don't you just buy someone a plane ticket with that "Roc" money?

I just showed Kat what they looked like and I was given official permission to buy 2. So I'll need to work on the surprised look when we get more than that...

$1250 worth of philanthropy. supporting the USDGC :D
Think of the service provided by your purchase.
Heck, you could do like politicians do and call it some sort of strategy to help the economy :D
At least you'll have a pretty good case that the discs will appreciate in value fairly quickly...

how are star and special blend different?
Erroneous
Feb 23 2006, 01:15 PM
from what i read the STAR rocs are gonna be the Rancho mold, and the Special Blend will be the Ontario mold.

stolen from dave's thread

Special Blend is Star, but Special Blend was done a year or more ago. As plastics change from batch to batch sometimes, it's sometimes helpful to denote the vintage, so to speak. The first run of Special Blend Rocs were
slightly different from the second. The Star Rocs are slightly different from the two SB Rocs. The first SB version was in a Ontario configuration. The second SB version, was semi Ontario. The Stars are in Rancho. What you can expect from the flight is another matter. This, you can get from the USDGC site, but generally all of the SB and Stars, are straighter flying than their Champion counterparts, I am told.

If you want more info than that, I'd suggest asking him.

could someone who knows SB's help me out. i throw an SB spectator Roc (claw stamp -- i guess it is considered an early release 2006?). I also have an unthrown blue 2005 SB. were there any main differences between the two in terms of stability and flight pattern? Also, do Roc experts expect this year's SB's to be like the Spectator Rocs in terms of flight characteristisc?
i hope to get my hands on a new SB and am trying to answer the dilemma:
"to throw or not to throw -- that is the question"

All I can help with is the 2005 SB Rocs. I have a 180 red in my bag that even after being thrown for over a year now is still as stable as it was brand new. As far as the 2006 SB Spectator Rocs....I have 2 of them on the wall and havent thrown, however I do know a few locals that throw them and they say the discs are less stable than the 05's. Maybe Dave can help you answer your questions better than I. I do know one of the major differences is the fact the 05's and 06's are different molds all together. I know Dave answered the question as to which is which in his thread....somewhere.

thanks for the reply. i know both are based on the blunter-nosed Ontario and are less stable than the sharper-nosed Rancho molds, but i am wondering in terms of flight. Dave doesn't throw Rocs, but i guess he is pretty in touch with those who do :D
So it sounds like if i threw my 2005 SB it would most likely be more stable than my 2006 Spectator Claw stamps... Do you know whether that means more high speed stable, more low speed stable, or both? I'm guessing the regular release 2006 SB's will be similar to the Spectator SB's?
i miss the good old days when Felix Sung could post :D

On the Zone Driven site, it says that you have to get a new account. My question is when? It's getting down to go time.

Feb 27 2006, 03:13 PM
I've had a chance to throw both the 2005 SB and the 2005 spectator, and I'd say the main difference between the two was the 2005 SB is more low speed overstable than the 2005 spectator. I felt both had similar lines at high speeds (stable and straight), but at low speeds, the 2005 SB had a noticable fade, and the 2005 spectator didn't seem to have that.

I dont have the email anymore, but I thought it said something about the site being updated over the weekend, of course then requiring to re-establish an account. You may want to fire off an email to mainzone@zonedriven.com I think thats the 'general questions' email addy.
I signed into the Zone with my old info before I responded to this message.
Good Luck!
By the way.....the 06' Collectors Spread Sheet has been posted there as well, for those that may have missed it!

I've got high arm speed and I've noticed that the SB Claw has more high speed turn (first part of flight) than the 05 SB. When I throw my claw with a slight hyzer, it will bend alittle to the right and find flat to whereas the 05 SB will hold the line you throw it on.
I'm trying to gently beat my Claw in for my turnover roc! Look out trees, here I come!!!
My claw stamp 2005 spectator is floppy but more stable (contrary to previous replys)than my 2005 SBs (which are stiffer but less stable and just better in my opinion). I forget where I read it, but someone said recently that the 2005 spectator SBs were a "semi ontario" mold, and that this years SBs and Stars will be one or the other (ontario or rancho). The 2005 spectator SB is more stable than the 2005 SB but less stable than the 2005 standard or glow (rancho) IMO.
AviarX
Feb 28 2006, 12:00 AM
that makes more sense because if the first SB's were Ontario-type and the second SB's (Spectator) were semi-Ontario then the semi-s would be more stable. My Spectator claw-stamp is only 173g, but it is stable at high speed and overstable during the fade... My 2005 SB (first type) is blue 180 so maybe it will be close.

Reading all of these posts, I can't decide if stable is being used to describe a straight flight path or a hyzer flight path.
Furthur
Feb 28 2006, 04:00 AM
Appearently people have had different opinions of both of them. My suggestion: Buy both, then sell the one you don't want. Or keep an extra, and sell it in a few years for a LOT more than it cost. I'm getting 3 SB and 3 Star personally, and probably selling some of the ones I don't throw.

i'm not sure if we are all using it the same way, but when i say stable i mean the tendency of a disc (when thrown flat) not to flip or fade until it starts running out of gas. at that point -- the low-speed part of the flightpath -- almost all discs fade. some fade back hard -- in an overstable way.
is there a different definition?

If I'm reading this right, that the spectator claw SB ROCs have more movement both at high and low speeds than the '05 SB ROCs ?
It sounds like '05s are more stable (straight) at high speed and have a little fade (slightly overstable) at low speed, while the claw SB ROCs are just a little flippy, but not enough to be called understable, at high speed, and more overstable at low speed.
From experience, this would imply more glide with the claw ROCs as well, is this the case ?
