NINE Big Bags of Trash today :D
The course is looking fantastic and is ready for the grand opening.
Thanks a bunch to the work crew today:
Micheal Olse, 007 Bond, Nate, Zane and the San Marcos crew that showed up later on for a couple more bags of trash.
How's this for a scoring spread on #18 long today:
1 birdie two
1 par three
1 circle three from 80 ft
1 bogey four
1 double circle seven :o

17 and 18 longs are two really good finishing holes. Not too hard to make a 3, but easy to get into trouble too.

18 long meaning the birdie hole??
Yeti
Feb 23 2006, 01:36 PM
Yeah, pretty much a birdie hole unless you fail to negotiate the "S" curve shot through the trees or find the creek.
Hole 16 and 17 are just awesome.
16 long tees from an elevated tee pad across the creek and plays up and along perfect rows of trees to a pin on a slopping hill to the creek about 550 ft away.
17 tees down the outside of those rows of trees to a perfect opening to throw a 200-330 foot up shot (depending on your drive) across a deep creek to an island type of green near waters edge. Beautiful. Another 550 or so type of Par 4.

yeah, the holes 13-18 really make that course, lot of risk/reward.
are there planned mandos for any of the holes?? it seems 8/9 and 16/17 use a lot of the same fairway space.

I actually meant holes 16 and 17... (18 is a good hole too, just not quite the same a the previous two)

There are a few mandos planned for the course, hole #15 comes to mind to take out the huge righty hyzer and the lefty over the house fences.
There are five 500 ft plus holes out at Kyle. All are very three-a-ble, but also can be score rackers :D

Is 9's long tee box over by 2's pin on the otherside of the sidewalk?

OH YEAH that is SIC! I got to play thru 12 holes, well I think I played the correct layout 'cept #9. I played the short box not realizing where the long 9 was till walking from #11 and remembering from playing #2.
Is 12's long box the one with the 1/2 full form in the ground, cause I played that one short as well for obvious reasons. At least I think it was 12, unless I missed that one altogether, I didn't look at the pin when finishing...
The holes I did play were pretty cool, looking forward to playing Sunday.

I just finished a course map for everyone and will have them on Sunday.
The only tee pad that isn't finished is the long pad for hole #13 as they plum ran out of cement. Then some %$##% (don't ban me) thought he would be cool and play the freshly poured cement boxes, thanks genius. Anyway, the P&R department has plans to re-do a couple of the imprinted tees as well as finish 13 in March. There will also be tee signs in the coming months as well as trash cans.
The city of Kyle is really excited about the course. It is up to all of us to represent as the locals are still going to be figuring out if they like this in their park or not. First impressions are everything.
Oh by the way, small town humor. The cops brought the whole force in to track this guy down as he refused to stop playing on the pads and used the 'ol "well this my park too, I help build courses in Austin". Anyway we are thinking he will have a bill coming from the city of Kyle. Of course that was the police's first impression of disc golfers so there you have it.
Be respectful and clean up after yourselves at the minimum :)

Directions:
Take Kyle exit 213 (Hwy 150). You will want to get to Hwy 150 going east from I-35. From the north you will have to go over bridge and go south on frontage until you get to the Valero gas station. At Valero from either direction go East on Hwy 150 for less than 1/4 mile and take a left on Lehman. After about 1/2 mile through a neighborhood you will see park and baskets on your left. Follow streets around to park entrance.
Sweet, got Family in Kyle, and they have been talking about the course going in for a while now, it seems the locals are rather excited about it. Looks like another step in the growth of popularity in the sport we all love so much.
Shame I wont make it Sunday....had my Fathers Funeral yesterday, and going to Mardi Gras today, and drowning my sorrows....with a designated driver of course.

51 players for the first round this morning!! Jay and Des ran the event very good, 25 players in ADV alone. I hope there will be more minis like this one at Kyle, this was definitely the biggest turnout that I have ever seen for a mini anywhere in Austin.

Kyle has officially been Kicked Off :D
What a great day for disc golf promotion. We gave away 80 discs for free to residents of Kyle, Texas to use their new course. Des gave an awesome demo to a large group that ranged in age from 11 years of age to a 65 year old couple that lives on the 15th green.
We had 88 players for the mini's and left a great impression on the locals, parks department and even the comedic Kyle Officer that visited the first player meeting.
We also raised $130 for EDGE with the basket toss donated by Jason Eakins of Victoria. This ended in great fashion with Efrain Salazar acing his first of five shots. A few people had pre-paid and still had to shoot, but as the awards were about to start I quickly wanted to get Efrain's phot with the basket. Just as I snapped the pic, the crowd exploded with another ace rung up by Martin Randon. Martin won the throw off and Efrain showed what a truely classly guy he is by posing for a picture once again, but handing off the basket which he almost won We had a great prize for him as well.
Tee signs should be up in the next month and everyone raved of the challenging course layouts. My course records suprisingly still stand and ready to be challenged at -2 longs, -5 shorts.
Play on, enjoy and please help take care of this new course.

Even was the best from longs (course record -2)
-3 was the best from the shorts and there was three of those (course record -5)
This was using just the standard Par 54. I would imagine the Kyle course plays closer to a Par 58 from the longs and a Par 56 from the shorts.

58 from the longs<>meaning holes 4,9,16,&17 are par 4's?
If so, why not use them as par 4 during competitive play?
