Its non-sanctioned this year

**** --- and same weekend as Coastal Clash, too. Oh, the horror of living in a state with so many disc golf options!

Albeit the courses are over 400 miles apart from each other. Which is the same as there being competing tournaments in Nashville and Chicago on the same weekend, or Nashville and Mobile, AL.

Or between Raleigh, NC and Cleveland, OH. Or Lansing, MI and St. Louis, MO...

Well, you get the idea.

Feb 22 2006, 02:08 PM
It was just very hard for me to find a weekend that didnt have a tournament going on in Texas.

It will be well worth it though!

Feb 22 2006, 02:10 PM
This is a very exciting sounding event!

Please note that this event is not associated with the Lone Star Series that Team Disaster runs or the Texas States National Tour event.

Good luck in getting everything pulled together.

bummer , I am an annual coastal clasher!! if it was on a different weekend I would definately be there along with several others for sure!!

Feb 22 2006, 02:24 PM
This event is not associated with the Lone Star Series or the Texas State National Tour.

It is associated with Drop Zone Disc Golf, The Cedar Hill Disc Golf Association, and the Mansfield Disc Golf Association

Do you think more players would be able to make it if I changed the dates to July 7th-9th?

I'm not sure if there are any tournaments going on that weekend or not.

Feb 22 2006, 02:34 PM
Nevermind, there is a tournament around here on that date.

I'm thinking of changing the dates to June 23rd-25th

July 8th is the Lewisville TX-7 event.

Texas events til the end of the year (http://www.lsdga.com/sched/04eoyml.php)

Even though it is unsanctioned this year, it is prefered that scheduling go through the state coordinator.

Before scheduling events Jeff I would recommend checking with the TX State Cooridinator Gary Duke and look at www.lsdga.com (http://www.lsdga.com)

Even if you are not PDGA, or whatever it is the correct thing to do.

Thanks
Chris

There was a lot of effort put into keeping large events from happening in the same city on back to back weekends.

This is a look at the schedule from a DFW point of view for the rest of the year. Blue events are Major/NT, bolded events are considered local to DFW (within 2 hours with a large traditional draw from DFW). Lubbock usually draws players from DFW, but is more than 2 hours away. Abilene is closer, but is just getting back into the tournament scene.

I have been looking for a large event to move into DFW in the early October time frame.

If I had to recommend a weekend for a large Am event in DFW, it would be against Pro Worlds or Early October.

Feb 25 - Match Play at Cedar Hill
Mar 4 - Texas 7 Tour Waco
Mar 11-12 - Nothing Local, Texas State Doubles [Round Top] and Green Country Doubles [Tulsa])
Mar 18-19 - Good Weekend for Am event. Pro World Doubles - No Am tournaments in Texas
Mar 25-26 - Red Rock Show (Austin) and Crush on the Concho (San Angelo)
Apr 01-02 - Pecan Park and JDGF Z-Boaz (two events with strong DFW draw)
Apr 08-09 - Am World Doubles (good DFW draw)
Apr 15-16 - Easter, Mace event at Crawford and TWC when it's not Easter.
Apr 22-23 - TX States
Apr 19-30 - Paul Gyles Memorial (strong DFW draw) & TWC
May 6-7 - OK Weekend, you will loose a few players. Live Oak and Amarillo
May 13-14 - A-Z Doubles
May 20-21 COTO (Austin)
May 27 Texas 7 Tyler
Jun 3-4 Solo (Lago Vista) & JDGF Wichita Falls
Jun 10-11 Waco Charity Open
Jun 17-18 Big Arms (Lubbock)
Jun 24-25 Abilene Wild Hair
Jul 1-2 Nothing in Texas
Jul 8-9 Texas 7 Tour Lewisville
Jul 15-16 Nothing local- Coastal Clash - last weekend before many leave for AM worlds.
Jul 22 Irish Match Play - Lewisville Many Am players will already be in Tulsa.
Jul 29-30 Am Worlds finishing up - Nothing Scheduled in Texas
Aug 5-6 Nothing in DFW - Texas 7 Tour around Austin
Aug 12-13 Nothing in Texas - Pro Worlds weekend
Aug 19 Nothing in DFW - Lone Star Series event

Actually, I didn't think there was much of a problem with your original dates.

The only other tournament in the state is over 400 miles away that weekend. There's a good chance that you could still get a decent turn out from the North Texas and Okie golfers.

Feb 22 2006, 03:50 PM
The original dates were not bad, the only problem I saw with them was that players planning on going to Am Worlds may be strectched a little thin with World's expenses, and it put three weekends in a row with events in DFW.

Feb 22 2006, 03:58 PM
Well that has been the dates of the Fahrenheit Fling for the last 5 years. We have been undecided about running the event again, but would consider pooling resources to insure a bigger draw. The only down side to this is that you have never done what you said you would do.

Not to further dampen the idea (at least on the original date) but the Shreveport Challenge is on July 15 & 16. Being non-sanctioned will be a HUGE drawback, no matter what the weekend in June or July. Most players around here are going to probably try to hit up the biggest field around to prepare for Am Worlds...if they're going that is.

I agree with gary going against Pro Worlds, theres not much else goin on in August........

as gary pointed out, there is no "good" weekends available, you are going to step on someones toes.

But you need/should schedule through Gary all the same. Specially for larger events.

Well, first of all, the only thing that I said I was going to do but didnt follow through with was helping TD and stuff at the Vet! With me living out on Joe Pool lake, and the gas prices so high, I didnt want to make that drive. This was about 5 months ago before I started playing at Lorch. It only takes me 7 min to get there, and I'm willing to do anything to help Brian out in Cedar Hill!

I didnt know trying run a tournament would get so many people on edge with me. I've already put a lot of work an money into this and, yeah, maybe I went about somethings the wrong way, but I'm new to this and didnt know some of the things that some of you are jumping my ***** about.

This is total BS! It makes me feel like I'm not worthy enough to run a tournament around here!

I was new to the sport and wanted to do what I could to help out. I just guess you dont get a learning curve around here.

Some people have been sending me PMs and email saying that this is a great idea because we need an Amateur only tournament around her. Then I have the other side telling me that I'm doing this and that wrong. I cant do that. Its very frustrating!

I'm going to do whatever I need to do to get this tournament done!

Gary, I sent you an email.

First step in being a successful TD is learning to put up with all of the people that think you did it wrong without getting upset.

The second step is figuring out if any of what they say has merit.

It's not a lost cause, but an Am only event at Cedar Hill could be a very big event, and you will need all of the experienced help you can get. As well as an incredible amount of plastic for payout. I don't know if the $4000 of prizes is added or part of the entry fee based payout, but either way, just having an event at Cedar Hill can draw a lot of players.

Welcome to the land of being a TD. It is the best way to #$*&$! people off (other than flaming on this web site)

It helps a lot if you have helped other TDs run there tournaments. You gain experience and gets you known by the players.

and yes, it is a HUGE investment in runnning a tournament. A well run tournament can cost $500 to $1000 just to run. (this includes park fees and other odd's and ends)

If no one shows up, you can have some pretty hefty bills due after the tournament. (after Athens, I was $1500 in debt in 2004, after the Carrollton Open that was up to over $2500 in debt) I still owe for plastic from 2 years ago right now.

This, and I personally put $1000 of my own CASH into the tournament every year.

After talking to Gary, I'm going to make some changes including the name...

I didnt mean to make anyone mad!

I will post the update in a new thread, but I'm looking to hold the tournament on June 30th - July 2nd. Gary said that date was open.

Thanks to everyone that helped out on this!

If you already have everything printed and the custom discs have been stamped, then worry about the name next year. It's really not so big of a deal that you need to lose money over it.

Changing it before next year where it won't cost you anything is fine. I would start co-advertising the both names as soon as you decide on one so that it will be recognized next year.

I'm not giving you a hard time or anything, isn't pretty much most of the tournies around here in Tejas already overrun by ams as it is! What do they need an AM only event for anyway?

I would love to see a AM only event that is Trophy only, and no pay out. Charge a 2 or 3 dollar service charge per player.

Well lets see.........
Last Saturday he was a no show. The weather was bad so I figured that kept him away. The weather was nicer sunday, but again a no show at the Vet. This past saturday again no show at both Cedar Hill and the Vet. I was told that I would be contacted and yet again here we are with no sighting at all.

Jeff, I would like to help out on this, but if you continue to not do what you say, well I cannot.

Well, Saturday there was rain. Since I wasnt playing, I figured we could do it another time. I never said that I would be at the Vet on Sunday! My family was here for my birthday on Sunday, so I would have not been there. The only day that we had set was Saturday, and it was raining.

What time will you be at the Vet next Sunday?

Just so everyone understands, THIS EVENT IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN IN CEDAR HILL. I dont even know if Jeff Neal is having a tournament at all in July or if he is even associated with Disc Golf any more.

Someone asked me about it this weekend and I just wanted to let everyone know. No tournament by Jeff Neal in Cedar Hill in July.

I emailed Titledisc asking them to confirm with Jeff since it is still on their website.
