Let's get ready to rumble!!!!
You may not have asked for it, but here it is! Since every thread on this site eventually turns to who's disc manufacturer is better than the others, here's you chance to spout-off!
Tell everyone why you think your disc's company is better than the other. Let's keep it above the belts, though...remember, one day one of these companies might want you to throw their discs...for $$$$$!!!!

wow, great contest so far...
isn't this kind of like Duke vs. any team in the Patriot Conference?

When I was little I liked dogs. Then I got bit by a #$*&$! and had to get shots that made me sick and feverish. So I got a little leery of dogs and shots. Then I was almost over it many years later when I almost got eaten by a crazed English sheep dog. Fortunately an animal control officer happened to be driving by about the time that the dog was spitting out my back pocket and going for the exposed flesh. This time the shots were not as bad, but I had to get a lot of them in very small doses. So I went back to being leery of most dogs for a long time, but eventually got over it until the neighbor's dog ripped a glove off my hand and sliced open my index finger for no discernable reason. I decided to risk it and not get the shots and almost died of some exotic virus that is not thought to be transmitted by dog bites. Whatever.
I only mention this because there is one disc company that I have had no vendor relationship with that has been somewhat analogous to that.

Hey Bruce. I'm usually pretty good at riddles, and silly party games and certain very focal types of trivia. And I even have a great deal more experience with dog bites than most folks, both in the biting and the getting bit, but just what in the sam hill are you talking about? :o

It turned out I was hyper-sensitive or allergic to tetnus and the medical standard of practice then was that if you got bit by a dog you had to get a tetnus shot. Probably still is, but now I just avoid dogs.
And that exotic virus may very well have been unrelated to the dog bite, but it started up a few weeks after so who knows. Maybe I caught the canine version.
All clear? :D

I really find their disc really dependable and a big variety in the disc that they have.

Naw, I was with you through the tetanus/dog bit/coincadinkel virus thing. I was just fishing for the payoff on the disc golf company/bit on the derriere analogy. :D

Man nothing beats that hard as nails Z-plastic that just lasts forever.
Gummy/grippy discs leave me with zero confidence in their ability to fly consistently.

Top 3 reasons I throw Gateway
1. The Wizard...best putter on the market and all around great disc.
2. Consistency from run to run.
3. Quality of products produced (ie. Their bags are the best out there in my opinion).
Also...Dave and Justin are good guys to work with, along with everybody else at Gateway.

Bruce,
I'm a bit intrigued by your riddle,
I think the poll clearly states above the belt, this seems like your story could be below the belt, but that depends on which company you are talking about.

Gummy/grippy discs leave me with zero confidence in their ability to fly consistently.
to each their own. I can throw JK Aviars just as far and accurately as KC Aviars even though they are same mold; different plastic.
They also fly just as stable and i prefer the added grip.
Is your problem with floppy discs the feel, psychological (anti-placebo effect), or technique (off-axis torque)?
Parkntwoputt
Feb 21 2006, 01:23 AM
99% of the time it is the psychological effect. I am an Am still so I cannot say that my mechanics are 100% correct. Obviously I have seen people throw soft, grippy, floppy discs very very well.
For me my "comfort" disc is the Crystal Challenger. Feeling that hard flight plate in my hands gives me a feeling that the disc with stay true. I am money inside 250ft with that disc.
Considering that this is such a mental game. I have no qualms in preferring one manufacturer over another because of the stiffness of plastic.
But hey, I am a captialist, if a company besides Discraft wanted to pay me to throw their discs, I would be hard pressed to turn them down. Afterall, each company has a disc for just about everything. It is all just personal preference.
"I said that first sentence of the last paragraph wrong. I did not insinuate that I would not accpect sponsorship from Discraft. What I am more or less saying is that I am inclined to prefer discraft discs over the others. Sorry Keith and Jim. "

My dad can't beat up anybody's dad, and I could be talking about a lot of different dogs on that list because I've only carried products from four or five of them. So maybe I'm not hitting below the waist if I'm not landing any punches.
The first time I got bit by that dog, a week later I was commiserating with another big dog on that list and I told him my story without mentioning any names. He immediately said, "Oh, you've been talking to ------ then?" And I said, "How did you know?" And this dog says, "He's the only bigger bastard than me making discs, and I think I'd remember if I did that last week!"
Every dog has a bad day sometimes. Maybe I just tried to pet it when someone else was stepping on its tail. But over the years it just seems like that dog is a tail-wagging biter.

intriguing a company that has not sold a discs is getting 13% of the votes
Can you vote more than one time or something?

you know alot of the local stores and people around here don't even know any other disc companies exsit besides discraft, innova, and millenium. even at the last tourney i was at there was 5 different "stores" and not a single one had a gateway product. that i find strange because evrywhere i look online gateway is always mentioned as being great.

It's all word of mouth and word of throws.
If I'm not mistaken, David has offers in most DGWN about players packages and prizes for tournaments since I started receiving the magazine. His company has gained interest and popularity thanks to great products like the wizard and element. It's just that the two big distributors have such a market on the little corner stores, there's no room for other's products except for true disc golf stores.
Recently, our disc golf store has closed so I'm limited to the other guys if I'm out shopping anywhere but on the internet. I would love to try the full line, but don't have the opportunity to when compulsion drives me to the store! :D

Our local dealer does not stock Gateway products, and has not for over a year.
His rationale is that the newer players who are his primary market do not throw discs that are stable to over stable like gateways products. For instance his best selling drivers are low 160's Sidewinders!
At time of his last showing of Gateway products was back when the Chief was available, before it became the Wizard. So at the point where Gateway was at, they were behind Innova and Discraft on new product releases.
I imagine he is not the only vendor who has gone through this.
Now before anyone gets defensive, remember I am talking about a time frame of about 18 months ago. Gateway has developed some new discs back then. I personally really like the Element and the Wizard. But I have no desire to replace the Buzzz and the Challenger which are currently in my bag for those discs types.
I am not knocking Gateway, just given an explanation.
