I guess you missed my posts about using the Am Crosstown to determine the Advanced players for this years team.

I thought it might be a little more fair to have the players compete for the spots.

The Advanced spots are the only only spots that are really up in the air each year.

If possible I would like to keep the rest of the team as close to the same each year as possible.

MiTTenZZ
Feb 21 2006, 08:57 AM
There will be no MiTTenZZ at the VTI this year. Which means, that VA team has a chance at a few more points this year as I couldn't do squat last year, though I did tie EdPro in a sad battle to the death, and won one full point because I had no opponent...and barely won that one...

whorley
Feb 21 2006, 09:56 AM
Per John Biscoe:
"...there will be the following new restrictions on team-building:

a minimum of 7 players on a team must be able to show some demonstrable link to the geographic area/ course which the team represents, subject to my judgement. demonstrable link need not mean current residence. for instance i would judge mike moser to have a demonstrable link to northern virginia even though he now lives in delaware and i would consider players from tidewater eligible for both newport news and bayville's teams. all players who have been on a particular team previously are "grandfathered" in at this point and count as having a demonstrable link whether they actually do or not. i know this may be confusing, email me if you have questions."

Is every team going to meet this requirement? Or is it going to be a bunch of All-Star teams like last year. Our team this year will contain 8 of 9 players from Roanoke and Lynchburg. We all live less than an hour away from each other. Will Lewis, a Master, is our only out of towner with ties to the Roanoke players. Will is a great guy, but he is far from a ringer. Team Blue Ridge has two Open players total--Me and A. Vanderslice who has won $20 total in his Open career. The rest of our team with be made up of mostly Masters. Could we have gone out and brought in a couple of ringer Open players? Yes.

I think I'm starting to get in a foul mood... must be time for the VTI! This has got to be the best tournament of the year. It draws the best players from NC, VA, MD, and PA. It's played on the best course in VA. Match play format makes every hole important from the start of the tournament to the finish. I also think that team play is more spirited and competitive than singles play.

BLUE RIDGE!!! FOUL MOOOOOOOOOOOD!!!! :p

If I wanted to I could cut some of our Masters players and add Tic Tac, J-Bird and Tim Barr. Hell, Kingsport is probably closer to Roanoke than Charlotte is to Raliegh. But I'm not going to do that, because Team Blue Ridge has true unity and pride.

I just got back from the emergency room. No broken bones but some severe bruising. My foot is currently twice it's normal size. I declined the soft boot and crutches. Sorry, no joke. I stepped off a log and my ankle made a large crack and then it was "man down". Everything went white and I felt like I was going to puke. After the shock wore off I went and canned a 40ft putt to save my three. I finished the round. Now I can't walk and my ankle is making a popping sound every time i put weight on it. I didn't get the drugs and I paid for it last night. I had a restless night and couldn't get comfortable. This morning I went to therapy and everything is feeling much better. The first round I took it easy and played the short layout at Dorey. It was an easy beatdown. I won by a few strokes. I got brave and played the longer layout and littered the round with a mix of birdies(7 :)) and bogeys(9 :(). I got tired and lost my footing a few times. The good news is that I'll probably take a few days off and be fresh for the VTI.

Due to life circumstances beyond my control, I will not be able to attend this years VTI and am looking for a replacement for the team.

I was to be the number 1 Master player, but an Open player would work well also as Linc Morgan is well suited to the 1 Master player position also.

If you are interested please contact Bob Hoffman at deaddogs1 at aol.com (replace " at " with "@") ASAP. The final decision on who gets the spot is entirely in Bob's hands. Please only apply if you are from our region.

You will be joining a team of excellent players full of team spirit and ready to win it all!

Due to illnesses, injuries, family emergencies, people that can't read a calendar, people that can't wake up to their alarm clock, people that can't wipe their own noses without their mommies holding the tissue for them, etc., etc., etc. our Team has had various changes. Great event...great course..thanks RADL for having me on your team...way to keep the jug in NC even if if is tainted by trim now...I had a blast and loved this event...
ALSO, if anyone found/took a pair bags tags (one was a metal NoVa and the other was a Presidents Cup Challenge), please let me know because I would love to have them back. I noticed that they were not on my bag anymore going into the playoffs...thanks again to anyone who had a part in this event and course

I could tell Mike was doing a great job working with everyone to get that course whipped into shape when I visited at New Years. Glad it's working out so well. Hope I can get there to play it some time.

You beat me to it John.

New Quarter played well this weekend. I think I am finally done with tweaking and ready to install the concrete pads. Should have that done by summer. Ms. August is working on the signs and scorecards. Scorecard will have individual maps of the holes across the top. I have also named all the holes after 18th century landowners and 19th century Civil War generals.

Biscoe pulled off the impossible: he created an opportunity for disc golfers to play a match on the incomparable Hawk Hollow course that people tried to avoid like the plague. The play-out match was pure genius. Congratulations to Team Trim. Thank you to John for creating this course and this format. If most fun wins, then I believe we had twelve teams tied for first place.

The story is the same old story. MTL can't spell. He was trying to say Newport News was eliminated.

There is a waiting list for teams to get into this event. Either John needs to make more holes and increase parking and the amount of daylight or a team gets eliminated every year. The two teams with the worst records have to play off for elimination. This year it was NN. Home team and team Spotsy are exempt. The players will just migrate to another team.

meant to say elimanated....the worst two teams from each division met during the semis and played each other - the loser lost its spot for next year.

another unbelievable TTourney at the hollow. can't give enough praise to biscoe for all the work put into this course and this event. TThanks. congraTTs to seneca, or PADE, very good final between 2 evenly matched teams. got to participate in 9 holes of amazing golf with a fellow TTrimmer and 2 legends, good times. also, an exceptional display of sportsmanship put forth all weekend and especially by seneca during and after the finals. i think gawler congratulated each of us at least 3 seperate times.

Thanks to Biscoe for a wonderful tournament.

Thanks Hysell for the floor space and the 360.

And big props to RADL for making the semi's! With all that was happening leading up to the tourney, who would have thought that we would be 1 match out of the finals? I know that I'm satisfied with our performance.

Big huge donkey-ball-sized props to Team Trim. An absolutely AMAZING course to play. For all those who witnessed my "fall" on the last hole, I had to go down on my back... you know... have to protect the nips. ;) Way to keep it in NC. Also, big thanks to team RADL for giving me a spot, and to team Trim for making Kristen feel ttottally accepTTed. She's crazy pumped about learning the sport now and getting into competition. I think any spectator that witnessed the awesome display of talent this weekend would feel the same. We will both be seeing you all again in Charlotte next month!

typical roy williams ncaa performance going down to a team with a fraction of the heels talent just like EVERY YEAR at kansas- the only time he will ever win was last year with matt doherty's players. i am on hiatus as a carolina fan until rw is gone 10-15 years from now.

Thanks to Biscoe for putting on an awesome tournament on one of the best courses i have ever played. Congrats to UniTTy on the win. I'm glad NC kept the title even though RADL didnt get a shot at a rematch. This was my first match play event and it is definitely the most exciting format i've played. Hopefully I will be able to play again next year.
