This will be a great chance to practice the course for the DisCrazy Shootout only three weeks after this event. Jess and Janie have put in a lot of work to make this a really fun time for all skill levels. I'm pretty sure I heard something about a meal also.

Yes. Jess has almost got a FREE lunch for everyone nailed down. There will also be CTP prizes (dont know how many yet). And, I think there will be a $2 Ace pot.

This will be a quality event for a VERY good price. And, its just a one-day Sat. event. Jess and Janie are working very hard to give you a GREAT value for a LOW entry fee. Its so good, I'm playing Pro ......WATCH OUT ROCK!!! :D

We got some rain finally!!! Saturday night, about a tenth of an inch. It's been a long dry spell, this moisture came just in time for the Spring green-up. Made the course play fabulous! Yesterday I turned in a 45 for the second round of our monthly (that is one throw off the course record!), and managed to keep a two round score under 100. Best I've turned in for quite some time now. Maybe I'm getting back on track - COME ON AND GET YOU SOME!

Are there any requests for course set-up? This month the baskets are half short / half long. Next month - ALL LONG!
I can set it up any way for the Spring Fling, how about all long and everyone plays from the BLUE TEES? Or all short and everyone throws from the WHITE TEES? Should we set up some even shorter tees for the beginners and Juniors? Jess & Janie will have the final say of course, but we can lobby for our favorites :D

DeLynn, Colby, and I are in!!! Anyone else pre-registered?

Now on a sad note: There have been a lot of grass fires in this area due to the drought and high winds. They have been mostly in the Eastern part of the area (Pampa, Skellytown, Borger, McLean, Miami, etc.), so there has been no damage to the Disc Creek Disc Golf Course. However, there are a lot of people who have been devastated by these fires. More than 800 Thousand acres have burned, 10,000 horses and cattle have been lost, and several people have perished. Please, please be careful with ALL burning objects, dispose of them properly.

We need RAIN!

No requests as of yet..he probably has not thought about it. I will talk to him. I imagine one round should be short...then, maybe long the next...who knows. I like long pins from the BLUE boxes one round for Pros...but, thats just me :D

Keep the pre-registrations coming in. Misti and I are also pre-registered. This helps the organizers out a great deal and makes it easy on the player..as they just have to check in the day of.

For pre-registration or questions, call Jess or Janie at 806-381-1852

Yes, Long tees and long pins. I like your way of thinking!

We got some good rain this weekend here, so the course should be greening up soon. We got in late last night from Albuquerque and it was sure good to see that moisture.

Jroc
Mar 20 2006, 12:35 PM
I talked to Jess Fri night. He said, short, then long is fine with him (also, can let Pros do whatever they want :-)

31 have already pre-registred!! Jess said there will be quite a few playing who have never played DG before, mostly Woodman members. I may ask Jess if he wants to set up some shorter tee posistions to make it more enjoyable for those folks (and speed up play). This tournament serves as their spring fun-time member retreat event. And since its non-sanctioned, we dont have to worry about course configurations and propagators for ratings. I was thinking Pro divisons from the BLUE tees for short and long....everyone else from concrete short and long. Possibly even shorter tees for newbies.

Abilene area got a good bit of rain the last few days also. Going to have to get the lawnmower ready soon!!

We got over an inch in our rain guage this weekend (I'm glad we were playing in Albuquerque), and a little bit if snow-sleet-drizzle yesterday. A welcome sight, that's for sure.

I haven't heard much of a buzz about this event yet, but it's getting closer! I believe the discs that were ordered for Spring Fling are here. Enter early, get a players package, and let's have BIG FUN!

Jroc
Mar 22 2006, 04:13 PM
As of yesterday, there are 9 items in the players pack!!
(with more to come possibly) Remember, only the first 60 entrants get a players package.

Layout is confirmed: Rd. 1 - short pins ---Rd. 2 - long pins

Pro divisions play from the BLUE tees both rounds.
Everone else plays from the concrete tees both rounds.

johnrock
Mar 23 2006, 09:25 AM
Allright! The Blues it is! We played from the Blues yesterday. Started out fine, a little cold and spitting sleet. By hole #7 the grass was getting white and the intensity of the snow was picking up. Thankfully the tee lines were marked with Bright Orange spray paint that showed up through the snow cover. 3 out of 4 of us finished in spite of the deteriorating conditions! Looking out the back window it looks like we got about 1/2 an inch of snow from this episode.

Mar 23 2006, 06:22 PM
I got confirmation last night that there will be FREE LUNCH for everyone!!

Also, each meal ticket turned in at lunch is put into a drawing for prizes that are drawn for during lunch time!!

Like I said before.....a QUALITY event for a LOW price!!!

johnrock
Mar 27 2006, 12:01 PM
We may be removing the Out-of-Bounds restrictions for this event. We tried no OB during the Ice Bowl and it seemed to work OK. If we get a North wind, try a roller on the other side of the fence on Hole #18!

Jroc
Mar 27 2006, 12:40 PM
Might not be a bad idea. But, I heard Jess saying something about no rollers for this event......something about them not being real disc golf throws..... :D

Jroc
Mar 31 2006, 04:31 PM
More pre-registrations keep coming in. I believe we are up to 40 now. Remember, only the first 60 will get players packages.

There will be no OB for this tournament as several in the lower Am divisions are new to the sport...some will be playing DG for the first time.

For the Am players out there that want to play against some Pro players, but not 'donate' a huge entry fee; heres your chance. $30 for Pro....great players package, free lunch, drawings for prizes...... You cant beat it.

johnrock
Apr 01 2006, 10:48 AM
Can you spill the beans about what's going to be in the player's pack? I'm sure it'll be cool stuff, just curious. Will it all fit in my pick-up, or should I hitch up the trailer? ;)

Jroc
Apr 03 2006, 12:52 PM
I'll see if I can get some details on the packs. I think a T-shirt and tourney stamped disc are 2 of the items....

Pre registration has made it to 43. As a result, Jess is extending the players packages to the first 75 entrants!! Jess has heard there may be some representation from surrounding areas, so he wanted to prepare for a BIG turnout.

This tourney is going to be a GREAT value for the price. Plus, if you enter the Pro divisions, you get a chance to play the new Blue tees without all the OB to worry about(and, without the potential of losing too much money to the locals) ;)

2 weeks away!!

Jroc
Apr 04 2006, 11:34 AM
Correction:

There will be no tournament stamped disc. It will be a small disc with a tournament stamp (much like a mini). Sorry if I got anyones hopes up, but I had the wrong information.

Jroc
Apr 05 2006, 10:32 AM
The contents of the players package are being kept under lock and key!! We know about the disc mini and the T-shirt, but the rest are being kept in a secret vault buried deep under Jess' house!! ;)

I think there will be disc golf and non-disc golf related items. Regardless, these items are equal near 100% the entry fee...and, thats before payout :D Plus, you get to play the course with no OB!! Free lunch!! Drawings for other prizes!! CTP prizes!!

I also hear that Matt Smart is going to have some DisCrazy merhchandise to give away. Maybe one of those cool disc's hes got for the DisCrazy shootout!! Check them out HERE (http://www.pdga.com/msgboard/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=482650&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=&fpart=3&vc=1)

Also, I believe the Juniors will have RED tee boxes, so they will have reasonable hole lengths to deal with.

This is shaping up to be a GREAT warm-up for the DisCrazy shootout. Come up to Amarillo for a great Saturday of fun!!

Aaaaaannnnnnddddd:
Matt Smart and Tom Grensberg are planning a glow round Friday the 14th. If you get the opportunity to come early, plan on glowin' with the gang! Maybe we can convince them to go with no OB .

Got word yesterday that the players packages now have 13 items! I have no doubt this will be a fun event, and at a GREAT price! Come one, come all!!

johnrock
Apr 08 2006, 11:51 PM
I saw Jess at the course today. He mentioned something about keeping #16 in the long for both rounds. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif That short pin position helps to keep disc manufacturers in business!

Jroc
Apr 10 2006, 11:33 AM
From a design perspective, 16 in the short is more of a quality hole....but, I understand the reasoning :)

The players package is up to 15 items now!! Plus, dont forget about the glow round Fri. night. Show up just before dark and enjoy Disc Creek at night!!

johnrock
Apr 10 2006, 11:16 PM
Oh yeah, #16. Can we have a show of hands of everyone who has found the bottom of the creek on #16? :oFor not having to cross it, the creek sure does dominate this hole.
I like the short position best (it is arguably the signature hole of this course), but the long position really looks cool when the fairways are cut.

Hello Jerry!!!! Can you please tell me what Jesse's plans are for the juniors??? Kids with parents??? Or an adults walking to assist, or can this age group play at all??? My 6 year old wants to play and I was wondering if this was acceptable. He is a bit rusty on the rules. Oh by the way this is not Rock it's me you know that girl DeLynn that he hangs out with. haahhahahahhahah What is your wifee up to???? Tell her I said hello and give the kiddos hugs and kisses. Well I gotta go will talk to you soon. Take care.

Apr 11 2006, 10:56 AM
Hey D,

Jess is setting up shorter tees for the Juniors, and maybe Rec. as well. Jared (my son) is going to play too. Any who want to play are acceptable :D I think Misti has offered to be in a group with Juniors if need be to help with Rules, speed of play, etc. I hope we can work it so that you and M still get to play together if thats the case. I know she always enjoys being in groups with you. M and I will be there all day Fri.....will work this out with Jess then.

Also, I plan on doing the glow round....maybe M too. See you this weekend!!

Both of my hands are in the air :p. I want to get a picture of that hole now that the foliage has come out. I want to include it on the Disc Creek Course Evaluation. Rock, did you see that they have the Course Evals tied into the Course Directory now?

johnrock
Apr 11 2006, 04:15 PM
There is still a little bit of foilage left along the creek, just not as much as before. I'll try to get a picture.

It's good to see the course directory evolving, progress is good. Even though some people act like with it's current leadership, the Eval program is worthless

johnrock
Apr 11 2006, 04:18 PM
Last year at the Shootout, a guy in my first round group threw one in at the first bend, and then another one near the basket. On #17, he managed to find the creek again. And then again on the "A" Hole. He lost four discs in four holes! :o

Apr 12 2006, 12:07 AM
HEY guys,
I only have one thing to say. 16 has to go short!!! Im looking forward to this weekend! I think hole 18 is the signature hole but 16 in the short holds a close second!
Dont forget about the Glow Round Friday night. Its for a great cause and Cool prizes!
See you guys this weekend.

Hey John, Can I get a couple of T-Shirts and tourney stamped discs if any are available ?

johnrock
Apr 12 2006, 09:33 AM
Sure, Gary. T-shirts should be no problem, but we'll have to check Matt's stock on the discs. I'm not sure how many regular stamped discs he has, but I know the full color ones are going fast. There will be several oportunities to win some, so that is an option if you've got some time for a quick trip North ;). We'll hook you up somehow.

johnrock
Apr 12 2006, 09:36 AM
Ooops. After re-reading, I assume you were asking about the Woodmen event discs and shirts? Either way, we'll get something together for you.

Jroc
Apr 12 2006, 11:38 AM
Gary, if you are talking about Woodman merch, I bet that can be taken care of :D

58 pre-registered as of yesterday!! 15 items now in the players package! Plenty of water and sports drinks available as well. The weather looks fantastic....hope the wind cooperates

There are 9 Juniors signed up, and there will be several entering who have never played DG, or only a handful of times!! This is a great opportunity to show these people what a fun and fulfilling activity Disc Golf can be. The better we represent ourselves, the more likely Woodman will support future DG efforts in the area.

On hole 16: Woodman has several discs that they use at a summer camp in Brownwood, a temp course they set up using 6 Skill shots w/ 3 tees each. All the Woodman members who have never played or dont have any discs will be provided with these 'summer camp discs' Jess and Woodman just want to make sure they get them back :D So, while 16 short is a great hole, you will just have to wait until the Shootout to play it ;)

I know everyone is really ok with that....but, I thought everyone might like to know the reason behind it :D

Glow round Fri night. Show up around sunset. Anyone know entry fee?

gnduke
Apr 12 2006, 12:40 PM
Yes, I spent many weeks in my youth at Woodmen Of the World summer camps.

It would be nice to get a couple of T-Shirts and discs.
Maybe a few extra to send home.

johnrock
Apr 12 2006, 04:45 PM
Jerry, Do you know if Disc-Diva did any special dies with the Woodmen logo? Those would make some good prizes.

johnrock
Apr 12 2006, 05:00 PM
Not sure about glow round entry fee. They've always been pretty reasonable when Tom puts them on. It'll be worth it because it will benefit the DisCrazy Shootout (purse and charities).

Jroc
Apr 12 2006, 06:24 PM
Not sure. I know there wont be any tournament stamped disc for this event, but there may be some exsisting discs that I can get a hold of.

The weatherman is calling for "A Major Wind Event" Saturday. :( When they say that, you never know how bad it'll get. Oh well, at least we won't have to worry about going OB!

johnrock
Apr 14 2006, 10:27 AM

"Major Wind" event today!

In spite of that, 88 players signed up. Great turn-out for the conditions. Jess and Janie deserve a huge THANK YOU for all they put into this tournament. Everyone that showed up to play definately got their money's worth. Good lunch and player's pack plus all the wind you can handle.

Jroc
Apr 17 2006, 01:27 AM
It was definitly a major wind event!! 30+ mph sustained with 40+ mph gusts! I think I can still taste the sand.......

Jess and Janie Wilkins along with Woodman of the World would like to thank EVERYONE that came out. The turnout was far greater than anyone thought. 88 Pre-registered: some of those only wanted players packs, and a few didnt show up. 75 players started the day, and 67 finished. There were roughly 15 players who rarely play or have ever even picked up a disc!! One first-timer had so much fun....he bought 6 tourney stamped dics after he collected his payout!!

Personally, I had a great time! Its hard to be involved with making the tournament run AND play in it...but, it was well worth it. To see brand new players smiling the whole day and seasoned players enjoying themselves was great fun.

Big thanks to the Amarillo DG's who helped support Woodman in their efforts. Setting up the alternate tees, moving baskets in between rounds, helping to tear down tables at the end. Top notch group of guys.

Jess and I are already planning ways to make things better next year. Good luck to all those going to Big Spring this weekend!!
