Are there any locals going to the Bowling Green Amateur Championships? I would really like to go, if a couple people would like to carpool.

Birdie
Feb 13 2006, 12:31 PM
I am going! And (recent first place finisher at Z-Boaz) Travis Greenway (Stillwater all the way), and Tom T.(still alive) are going as well.

I am looking forward to it, but we havent made any real plans yet...

This is what we have so far...

1) Have Fun!

2) Don't get arrested!

3) Make it back home!

bapmaster
Feb 13 2006, 01:46 PM
I'm thinking about going again. This would be my fourth year in a row, but I've got to sell that idea to the wife (since I'm already taking a week's vacation for World's).

I highly recommend going (obviously, since I've been 3 times), but you should probably work on your wind and rain game before you leave. You're 99.9999% guaranteed to encounter at least one, if not both, with some severity. Last year, there were some brutal wind gusts on Sunday morning. It was kind of like playing in Oklahoma... :p

And I think you'll have to preregister. I'm thinking he's possibly going to limit the field (last year he had a nightmare with 3 full advanced flights).

bapmaster
Feb 13 2006, 01:52 PM
3) Make it back home!

Travelling with Tom, that might be a challenge (you'll have to ask him).

By the way, Bowling Green 3 years ago was the first time I beat Tom Townsend in PDGA play (sorry Tom, I just can't resist). That might just be enough incentive for me to go again. :D

Melissa
Feb 13 2006, 02:35 PM
Well, it sounds like Tom is going to have a car full, so I am looking for others to carpool with if anyone else has plans to go. Or if you guys end up taking two cars, I'd like to try to hitch a ride. I think Carla is gonna try to go also, which would make four of you in one car...with discs and camping gear.

m_conners
Feb 13 2006, 02:55 PM
There is already talk amongst a lot of Okie and Texas golfers regarding BG...I recommended we secure a block of rooms at the hotel. We will all be together and plus this way everyone will have a ride to whatever course they are playing. 3 pools last year in the advanced field, there will be people who ride together but they end up in seperate pools. This means your riding partner's tee time could be the same as yours but on a different course. The more people the better!!

Yo Powell, we stayed at the Motel 6 last year right?

Melissa
Feb 13 2006, 02:58 PM
I heard that the host hotel...Best Western, I think...is full. I'm still debating whether or not I want to play Intermediate or Advanced...they play different courses.

bapmaster
Feb 13 2006, 03:58 PM
Yeah, it was the Motel 6. Last year, I just got my room on their website. Very easy and inexpensive.

m_conners
Feb 13 2006, 04:01 PM
Right on...the best part about staying at Motel 6 was the White Castle that was directly next door to the hotel, it was literally an upshot from our front door.

bapmaster
Feb 13 2006, 04:05 PM
Melissa, if you're up to it, you should play Adv. I can't even imagine going to Bowling Green and missing out on one of those four courses. You won't be sorry, I promise (unless it's at White, when you've thrown far enough to play Dovillio and still have a quarter of a mile to finish...) The 3 other courses more than make up for White.

Rhett, I have a question?

In order to stay consistant with what you have done in the past with the suspension of users that continue to swear on the board, you seem to contradict yourself by allowing WeePee and FurBall to remain. By allowing this to happen, would it be in violation of discussion board policy or be considered a flaming attack if I were to state that you're a coward?

Just asking?

Me too. This will be my first tournament playing Advanced. I'm kinda nervous. The girls who won this tourney and the USWDGA's last year are both playing. Wish me luck!

Don't forget the woman who won Mid Nat's Green Division and was 5th at USWDGC last year.

I am rooting for her again this year. BG was her first big touranment last year and she got nervous.

She has told me she is looking forward to going head to head against Nicole again since she was so close going into the 5th round at USWDGC's.

Now if I can just get her to start throwing stable plastic. :D

Yo Mel, it looks like you might have your hands full.

That course where she won against men was a top level course.

UAH is 7200ft long. Par 58 Monster. Very very windy. Check her round ratings for that event too.

Best I have shot in practice is 54, tournament has been 61 rated at 956. Course record was set by an Advanced player at 50. And it is Deano's home course!

Karen is also the first woman ever to win a mixed division Major!

Thanks guys...I appreciate your support...but, it's definitely gonna be a tough one. Since this is my first big tournament, and I'm just warming up for World's, I'm just gonna play the best golf I possibly can and where ever I end up is where I end up. Hopefully my best will be near/at the top. I guess we'll see. I haven't ever played against the type of competition that I'm getting ready to see next weekend. Besides...it's World's that matters, right! Just wait...!

Since a few of us have never seen these courses, can anyone shed some light on what to expect??? Trees, terrain changes, water.... Just trying to get a visual for the drive...

Mar 29 2006, 03:34 PM
White = Long and OPEN
Keriakas = Slight elevation and lots of EVERGREENS
Hobson GROVE = Slight Elevation and lots of trees to weave through
Lovers Lane = Riverside like except with FLUSH green grass

None of the courses there resemble one another, which is great....If you only have time to practice 2 courses I would say HOBSON for sure, adn Keriakas will be the most benifital to practice.

m_conners
Mar 29 2006, 03:38 PM
These are the courses we played last year.

Hobson Grove - Tall hardwoods with mostly tight fairways.

Kereiakes -Tall grass surrounds fairly open mowed fairways defined with many tall cedars. holes go up and down valley.

Lovers Lane - Rolling hills with mature trees on half of the course. multiple tee and basket locations. wind can be a major factor.

White park - Long Open course. several large mature tres used strategically. 80 acres devoted exclusively to disc golf.

(German Voice) "I'm here with THE RED ONE, and his... GAME. So tell me Andrew, what can we expect at Bowling Green?"

Well I think that it's time to "un-pimp the auto" and tear down a few walls. Because I'm going to be bringing the "Tulsa-water" combo game to this plus-size event.

When I walked up to the first hole Saturday morning I saw the pink revo at the tee pad and thought some girl in advanced was playing up since they bumped them to the other 4 courses. Then I met Billy and it all made sense.

Billy, a little dissapointed you didn't post a win, but I understand you were dealing with other baggers, but at least you got a taste of serious competition for WORLDS.

REMEMBER what you learned from this event and use it to your advantage during WORLDS.

I'm PUMPED UP by lil Boughers finish! This guy is going to be the poster boy for Tulsa Disc Golf for a LOOOOOOOOOONG TIME! Keep up the good work JB ;)

I know what I learned.....Don't play like a ******* and four putt.

I am really looking forward to these courses Kevin, the things Billy was telling me, and with the style of golf I like to play I am thinking everyshot will be a great "thinking game" shot.

THANKS FOR ALL THE SUPPORT FOR JUSTIN.
WE ALL HAD A GREAT TIME.
I WISH I HAD A BETTER SECOND ROUND (EACH DAY). I HAD THE HOTTEST FIRST ROUND (AT FRANKLIN) SATURDAY THEN SUCKED ON THE SECOND ROUND (AT GRIFFIN). THEN SUNDAY I HAD THE HOTTEST ROUND AT PRESTON, THEN COULDN'T GET IT GOING IN THE SECOND ROUND (AT HOBSON).
AND JUST REMEMBER THAT DEVAN FINSIHED IN THE TOP 30 ALSO OUT OF 285 PLAYERS.
AFTER HAVING A BAD FIRST ROUND, HE SHOT THE HOTTEST ROUND AT KEREIAKES (HE WENT FROM ABOUT 80th TO ABOUT 40th, NOW THATS A BIG JUMP)
