While I like to think I have a big arm....I took a look at that shot and thought....there is no freaking way, man!
Then of course one of the locals I happened to be shooting with trys that huge turn over and it got spanked down right in the middle of that crap.
So, Ill take the sure 3 on that hole until I had the chance to throw that bad boy turn a few times. ;) :DWhat is the D on that one? 360-380 or something?

Will,
Your thinking of nine straight up the hill.
All holes have 3 pin placements, the hole Matt is talking about is the long pin on 18.
You can get an easy 3 going to the right or try a big anny over the jungle for the 2.
Matt 8 out of 10? maybe 4 out of 10 :D

Mark Kane one of our locals here in the St. Louis area brought to our attention that the full page ad in DGWN on page 93 has the date as May 21rst & 22nd.
The correct date is May 20 & 21
I don't think this will be an issue.
It happens
Tee pads are dug at Creve Coeur and we should be pouring within 2 weeks. Then it's on to Sioux Passage.
About our website:
When you go to www.stldiscgolf.com (http://www.stldiscgolf.com) you can see who is signed up so far. And, you can get detailed descriptions and pictures on some holes. We "really" want to showcase what we feel are some of the best courses in the midwest.
If you build it, they will come
We're almost done building them, Will you come?

I played Sioux Passage while visiting some family in Alton. The course had some very nice elevation changes but didn't blow me away. I tend to enjoy more narrow fairways and that keep you honest, maybe because I don't have a big arm. I'm thinking about making the drive out there. How are the other three courses?
the_kid
Feb 12 2006, 12:26 PM
JB and EndiCott are a lot tighter and Creve Coeur is open and long.

We are in the process of adding 2 additional pin placements per hole 9 making it 3 ) at Sioux passge. I'm sure this will add to the technicalness of Sioux, as at least 6-10 new plaeements will be in the woods, through tunnels or gaps on most of the par 4's. I woulnt consider it a totally open course anymore with the new placemets
SP has big elevation on the fairways but only the new tucked greens are difficult.
SP is the only course we havent choosen the pins for as we are just now getting them installed.
SP should play to around a par 65-66 when in the longest pins and anything in the high 50's would be SMOKIN!!!!!
The variety of the 4 courses is as among the best I could ever imagine! In my opinion these 4 courses combined are heads and shoulders above those in KC and BG.
The only real rival would probably be those in Des Moines!
Endicott is shorter and mostly park-like with a few that are tight and extremely techincal in places.
The course plays much harder than it looks on paper and there is anough risk reward for a wide scoring spread on each hole.
Jefferson Barracks has a lot elevation from tee to green and just as much around the greens but most fairways are not so dificult that reaching the green is the issue. You can 3 putt all over this course!
The length is about average at 6000' par 56-57
Creve coeur, is more technical than most would think for an open longer course. There are alot of HUGE trees that now come into play. If you played the old layout its no where near the same course.
It will play to around a par 69-70 but position off the tee is key on the par 4's not just Distance.
Being flat, it doesnt tire you out to play the course when it's close to 10,000 feet. all par3's are less then 350
We should have a grood field in all divisions as we are already starting to get phone calls and emails.
The players package should have 2-3 discs, a tee shirt, mini and more.
Iknow that there will be plenty of Fat Tire flowing saturday after the event and the food will be provided by one of the best chefs in the St Louis area!

Ray,
I heard we were moving the pour date up for th tees at Creve Coeur to this Saturday.
Is that true?
I am going to give scott a call and work on getting the pins done at SP this week too if possible.
Since we need 1-1/2 yards of concrete out there I was thinking we should get several done by hand and use any remaining concrete from Cc out there.
On the promotion side of the event.
I have been emailing larry Bledsoe who is running Bowling green and it shouldnt be a problem getting a few flyers in the pkayers package as part of Gateways sponsorship of their event.
We should also make sure we get our flyers out and up early in KC, Columbia, Peoria and any where within a 6 hour drive.

Tomorrow Jerry Barklage the Course Captain at Creve Coeur will be installing the forms, rock and screen to get ready for the pour date March 4th.
I just got in the from Innova 20th Anniversary Aviars which will be in the AM players packs.
A question to all? For some out of town player's who have seen the re-design at Creve Coeur, Jefferson Barracks and Endicott. How do these courses rate against the other "A" tier events in the Midwest?
How to see you there.... :)

Ray,
I have grand Opening at West City PArk in Festus this weekend on march 4th, thats a bummer, I may be able to get the 2 chris's to take care of that so I can edge and brush the tees.
I know Bob and Scott have the extra pins dug at Sioux passage and a few already poured, and I think we only need to move like 2 or 3 signs, before we get 1 yard of concrete out there to complete the rest of them.
I am hearing there are 4 pins for some holes, f theres anyplace that could use that many pins its SP, I think we have 40-60 acres and are just now starting to get pins in the woods. Once in the long Siuox pssage, Creve Coeur, Festus and Centralia will be the best 4 par 70's course in one are of anywhere I know.
Our ST LOuis open will have a top notch players package, Titan Portables for 1st place in at least the Advanced and the course will be WORLD CLASS!
Please spread the word and get you a group of 4 to make the trip.
Where's the player party going to be that you made reference to the "best chef in St. Louis" and the New Belgium products? Just curious for planning purposes (where to stay).
I'm coming from Des Moines, giving up Legion of Doom for the first time in about 4 years. I'm really looking forward to this. I started playing in Columbia, when I lived there till '99, and always wondered why St. Louis didn't have a big tourney like this. Awesome to see it happenin! Last time I was down to play that way was in Vichy! I've got one other guy coming down with me, and I'll be working on some more. I know the potential there. Good luck with all the projects Dave.

I know the food will be at Endicott as will the Fat Tire.
Once the park closes, I'm not sure where the kegs will wind up from there.
I would reccomend staying at the host Hotel Hampton Inn.
It is smack dab in the middle of the disc golf courses.
There is plenty of night life within 5 or 10 minutes of the hampton inn and even a bar in the Hotel that attrcts lots of hot young women.
If there are players who dont mind crashing on couches or floors. Just ask and I'm sure we can find some locals to put you up!

A little insight to disc golf in St. Louis. Our park system does not pay for anything. Not only that but they charge us to use the park.
We've managed to work a deal with them the last few years where we make improvements to the park and they let us play tournaments without paying.
What this means to the player is, you get 4 courses with concrete tees 4x12, new baskets in one park, benches and bag hangers as well as paver retaining walls in the parks.
We've re-designed all 4 courses you will be playing. The design and the amenities are VERY NICE.
As far as the bang for the buck. Try this on for size.
The am players pack value will be more than your entry fee. At minimum all am divisions get a Gateway Disc, an Innova Disc and a Discraft Disc. Not the cheap stuff either. And a tee shirt by Johnny Macs our local sporting good store. That's the minimum.
Pros have $1,000 added to their purse.
We have a free player's party at Endicott Park with free Fat TIre Beer provided by New Belgium. Also, we have a free dinner made by one of the top Chef's in Gary Suarez providing his services along with the SYSCO providing the food. This will also be at Endicott on Saturday night.
Here is another bonus we plan on doing 4 pools so you don't have 5 somes and big backups.
Oh, also you pick your prizes. No bag of stuff we're try to pawn off. We'll have several baskets, bags, discs by Gateway, Innova and Discraft. We'll also have shirts and hats.
We've been planning this event since Nov of 2005. We want to raise the bar for Supertour's in the midwest.
Please consider St. Louis on you tour...
I'll be there along with a few other springfieldians!
will there be a spring sizzler like last year?

I think we got 12 tees dug and cleared out the long pin on 5. Took a look at the long tee on 9, it could be one of the best holes on the front!! It will certaialy add a tightness factor that is needed on some of the tee offs.
The long pin on 6 played tough as the approach to the green is tricky unless you are really long off the tee.
I think we should make a nice path through the woods form the regular pin placenets for those who cannot make the turn on their drive.
This will make this hole very interesting during an event!
We played the course going from the pin on 11, wlaked through the small patch of wods, playing up hill to 15, back down the hill to 14 then played 12 and 13.
WE ALL ( 7 of us) agreed that the walk was shorter and made much more sense.
If the new 15 ( old 14 is on the long), the walk is not even that far, all of the other walking transtions are much shorter..
I think the layout today played to a par 60, I shot a 58 with a 6 on a par 3 and an OB on 18 for a bogie., Nikko and Tim Lewis shot 59, but we didnt play any of the wild flowers OB.
Can we get all 4 of the courses set up in the St Louis open layout as soon as posible?
Some peole were wanting to come down to lay the courses before the event and I;m sure our locals woldnt mind honing in on the layouts!!

What do you think?

We had to try and fix a bunch. Took them A-holes 3 tees before they figured out they were wet. Stupid kids, and their little dog too. We still have #9 to do and move the poles on 1-8-18 and install a new one on 9. We're leaving the Rec Tee on 9 and having another sign made for there for the casuals. 1 more yard cart and it'll be done. If someone gets me a cart there tomorrow around 3:30 we can finish up before league.

The website www.stldiscgolf.com (http://www.stldiscgolf.com) is back up for anyone looking to register. I'll be updating the pdga site soon. You can see who is in on our site so far.
A reminder ams get 3 discs and shirt minimum in the players packs. We'll have many baskets for prizes. Free beer and a awesome meal Saturday.
Also, some of the best courses in the Midwest. New concrete tee pads on all courses. All divisions play 4 courses. Pros "B" tier were adding $1,000.

Sioux passage is so sweet even when we played league in the shortys on Monday.
Dr Schmidt shot 50 and nikko and I 51's with a pretty good wind blowing.
Anything near 60 should be pretty good in the tourney layout!
Endicott is really getting green and the course is in such great shape.
If we can get fairways cut for Creve coeur that would add to the par 68 layout and make it easier for players to tell where the fairways are on the par 4's and five's.
Jb is always looking good and there are so many cool shots there and nice benches on just about every hole.
Grateful RON;
When will the JB course be in the tourney layout so we can get some practice before the event?
Can we keep it in the event layoutfrom here on out except for league days?
Your JB homeis wont have to much advatage if they are getting a chance to play the actual course until the week before.

10 holes are already there. We will move more holes before league but cannot guarentee any will be tourny placements. They are getting into position. Lots of preparation going on right now at JB. With Mark being down we lost one of our leaders but a couple of more have stepped up. If you are worried, I would get the Gateway crew up to help SP w/walls. Right now I feel that should be your biggest thing thought wise for the open. JB will be prestine, that is our goal.

SP League will play the Open Layout for weeks 3-5 so it will be ready for practice by next weekend (or sooner if a crew is coming up). I had to go throw the new tee pads at Sioux. It's sweet. Some of the most beautiful rolling hills with trees you'll see in disc golf.
As far as getting the courses in the pins that we will use for the St. Louis Open, we'll be having a meeting soon. I'd personally like to see it at least two weeks before on all the courses. As soon as we get word I'll post.
Hope you can me this one. It's worth the trip.

Scott did yo get the memo about 16, it is supposed to be in the long daddy'o.
I wish we could have a few more in the long at SP, it seems like holes 3,6 and 17 all play to a par 3-1/2, especially without the wild flowers as OB on 17.
We cleared out the pins for 5 and 14, is there any reason we are not using them?
The course is looking sweet, I will try to get some pictures of each course for a new full color stamp.
We sold almost all of the full color fund raisers for the event and feel like a nice disc with a fukll color photo of a hle from each course of the event would be pretty cool.

Justin,
Come on up. You want to see 4 different courses, w/4 very distinct personalities. You will not regret. We have a ton of payers on the bubble thinking about coming to STL. Do not pass it up. Want long flat w/big oaks, 8000 ft plus, go to Creve Coure, want 6-10M+ feet depending on the placements and mainly elevation change, go to Souix Pass, Want 5M to 7M+ w/BIG trees all along the way, go to Jefferson Barracks, Want 5M+ to 6M+ of all you want, placement golf, go to Endicott. These are the 4 courses that will be played for the open. I promise you one thing, you will be tired of your brain going, what do I do next. Yes, bubble players are out there by the numbers, but, anybody that comes and plays the open will NOT regret playing in STLs first A tier, I know of personally. My course is JB, see above. This thing personally, takes your golf game, and test all you got. Also, personally, Endicott is the toughest I have ever played. You must throw 2-250 accurately just to have a great upshot at 75-100 just to par. One of my best friends is Captain, the Chris Lang, AKA Clanger. Adv Masters players know him well. Anyway, that is his course, like JB is Mark and Rons course. We take great pride in our work, as well of the Captains at CC and SP. Also, if you can shoot anywhere near or par at JB, Endy, meaning 54 you are hunting. CC ATA Creve Coure 60s lowerish even upper 60s, is cool. SP AKA Souix Passage, now this is the one of the nicest layed out courses in STL area. Awesome layout, long, challenging, very nice. Any thing in the 60s is AWESOME. If you have any issue, come on down, you will not be dissapointed in the courses.

I just sent this to all 225 River City Flyer Members, our local club here is St. Louis. It's geared to them, but you may find it informative.
2006 A Tier St. Louis Open May 20 and 21:
I wanted to send all the River City Flyers club members some details about our upcoming biggest disc golf event ever in St. Louis. This is our first A tier which attracts more people from out of town as the B tier we had last year. To give you an idea how big these can get, a few weeks back Bowling Green Kentucky had an A tier with over 550 players at the event. We dont expect that many, but we are prepared to run up to 4 pools at the same time if needed.
For those who have not played in a PDGA event, this email will be very informative.
All players will play Sioux Passage, Endicott, Jefferson Barracks and Creve Coeur in the same course layout for all divisions. All of these courses are of championship caliper. The pin placements on the courses now are the ones we will be playing for the event. This will allow players ample time to practice. We chose to not put everything in the long pins but go with a mix of short and long for all skill levels.
We have Fat Tire beer provided by New Belgium for those of age, and dinner provided by Sysco and prepared by Gary Suarez which will be served on Saturday night at Endicott around 6:30pm. We will be giving away a minimum of 5 baskets at the event. For the Pros we have $1,000 added to the purse.
The entry fees:
All Pro Divisions $60
All Advance Am Divisions $50
All Intermediate Am Div $40
All Recreation Divisions $35
All Junior <16 Divisions $35
(note, there must be at least 3 players in a division)
There are actually two tournaments; An A Tier PDGA (Professional Disc Golf Association) and a B Tier Pro event going on the same weekend. Both are called the St. Louis Open. In order to play in an A tier amateur event you must be a current PDGA member. This annual fee for amateur players is $40 in addition to your entry fee. As a PDGA member you receive a quarterly magazine, a rule book and a PDGA number. You can join the PDGA when you register for the event. Since its a B Tier for Pros, you will need to pay an extra $5 if you not a PDGA member.
All players must register no later than 8:00pm Friday May 19th at Endicott. By register we mean sign up and pay. You can register online via our website and pay via paypal, you can get the registration form off the website and complete and mail with a check to the River City Flyers 15947 Silent Creek Ct, Chesterfield, MO 63017 by May 10th. Or you can pay an officer at any RCF leagues. We ask is you are planning to play, please register as soon as possible so we know how much food to prepare. There will be no registration on Saturday.
Overview of the 2006 St. Louis Open:
Register and pick up you players package for amateur players between (noon and 8:00pm) at Endicott Park on May 19th. If you have already paid and cant make the registration May 19th by 8:00pm, please call Mike Fritz at 314-283-4015 to confirm you are coming. You can pick up your players package on Saturday night.
What is in the players packages? At the minimum you will receive the following:
2006 St. Louis Open stamped Gateway Wizard
 20th Anniversary Innova gold Aviar
2006 St. Louis Open stamped Discraft Avenger Elite Z Plastic
Tee shirt with the 2006 St. Louis Open by Johnny Macs Sporting Goods.
Free coupon to throw a shot and win up to 2 portable disc golf baskets
 Program for the Event
(The players package is valued over $50)
There will be no players package for pro divisions.
At 8:00pm Saturday all registered players will have a players meeting at Endicott Park. This meeting is to inform the players of the happenings for the weekend. We will announce what pool you are in, which will tell you what order you will playing the courses. If you arrive at Endicott with players in your car that play in separate pools, your passengers will need to get a ride from a player in their pool. We will announce this and allow time for players to find a ride. Dont forget they will be coming back to Endicott for dinner so they can join you group then.
Players will go to their first round and start at 10:00am. Lunch is on your own and the second round will be at a different course and will tentatively start at 2:15pm. Your pool TD will post the time. Then, its back to Endicott for dinner and drinks.
On Sunday we will start at 9:00am at your 3rd course. The last round will tentatively start at 1:15pm. After the 4th round you Pool TD will have an awards ceremony and hand out prizes and trophies at you last course. There will be no final nine. There will be no combined awards ceremony for all players. We did this to get out-of-town players on the road timely.
We will payout approximately of you amateur division in prizes and trophies for the top players. The Pool TD will distribute vouchers and you will go to Endicott to prize out. This way you get to pick out what you want. The top Advanced Pool will end at Endicott.
Our club has made every effort to make this a premier A tier event. Since its our first, we are making sure every t is cross and every i is dotted. Please consider attending.
Sincerely,
Ray Vuichard

Finally finished the last teepad at Sioux yesterday. Workers blanketed each course for final fixes and clean-ups. Its nice having 220+ members this early in the year. The value of the Am players pack is GREATER than the entry fee. An Elite Avenger, 20th Ann Aviar and a Tourney stampped Wizard, what next? Throw in a tourney T-shirt and free beer at the players party Saturday night. I'm getting more convinced that in a world of paste knock-offs I'm polishing the Hope Diamond here at Sioux. I'm ready for her to be evaluated.

Also, Gary Suarez is a chef and will be cooking us our dinner on Saturday which is also free.

The native grass at Sioux is still pretty short and not OB. You can get a step into your throw from in there. The gravel road between 11,12 and 16 is OB. I told the leaguers last night it wasn't. Ron, mention something tonight at JB please.
RonSTL
May 16 2006, 10:20 PM
JB is looking sweet. Grass is green and cut, trees are greenery, and the course is not simple. Shot -5 in dubs today and even singles at par, 57 par for the tourny or less, is going to be a very good score. If you are still on the bubble, no doubt 4 of the best kept secrets in the core of the midwest.

here are the hole distances and pars, the distances listed are accurate, but do not give the complete picture because of the hills and woods that add dificulty (or ease) of the holes. (except Creve Coeur which flat, with just enough trees to force you to be accurate)
No pools will play Sioux and Creve on the same day...

Hers a prediction for the event
-22 to -25 will win the pro and -12 will win the adv?
CC and SP will be the easist to score on, but if you dont know the courses scoring birdies will not come easy.
There will be very good competition in both the pro and the advanced field from the locals or recently local ;)

I threw a few with Chad D today at Sioux. He likes the 548 foot acerun out back there. I'll be toiling here and there tomorrow all day. A huge tree broke in 1/2 at Endicott on hole 18 today in front of about 6-7 of us. Landed on the green, its a gimme.

Chase,
Have you played the course in St Louis?
Lots of variety, elevation and technical is an understatement, even at Creve coeur which most consider open, but its placement shots on all of the holes except the 5 par 3's, as there are 12 par 4's between 535 and 735 with lots of huge trees if you fade too much, dont get enough D and even get in the way if your too long on some holes!
You need to be accurate and moderately long off the teee, bad #$*&$! accurate on lay ups that require lots of different hieghts and angles and it helps to know which side of the green is better than the other. You wil need to make most of your putts for birds when you get a chance at them, drop in for par instead of having 30 footers and maintain your composure if you bogie, becasue you will.
Most of this is true at all of the courses especialy at sioux passage as it could wear down a guy thats not in shape or is frazzeled after playing Endicott first.
Nikko has a jammed thumb, before that he was favored pretty heavily to win, hanging with Myself, Chris Boro, Schmidt and justin and even beating them quite often, but his odds are down now with the thumb, there is Ben Calhoun who won in open in Des Moines, but I heard he had a lot of trouble at Endicott today and if he doesnt get to know the courses will be in for a rude awakening.
Devan Owens( under 16 world champ sposnored by Gatewway) shot 55 at CC which is a course record as it pays off to be a lefty and huge off the tee there, I think he parked a 565 foot hole where he actually threw well over 600 out, around and over some huge trees.
The advanced field is a bit tougher than the player ratings are showing.
Pat has been working a lot down here but not playing that much.
Chase I'll take all the action you want on Pat to win at 7 to 1, 5 to 1 to place and 3 to 1 to show;
how much you in for?
You can bet up to $200!
Ps,
Jane doe is back in the lou safe and sound :D

Hi Dave,
No I havent played the St. Louis courses. Id like to play them this weekend, but cant miss Legion Of Doom in Cedar Rapids. Gotta play when its one of your favorite courses.
Pat will step it up. It shouldnt matter if hes been busy or not, he can turn it up a notch. I told him his main comp would be Nikko, IMO. I didnt fully decide till this week I was going to Tulsa, otherwise I may have skipped Legion for the A-Tier.
Ill stop in St. Louis on my way to the Okie State maybe .

chuck, what would happen if he took par plus 4 for each hole missed ?
The Competition group has ruled that "par plus 4" is only allowed for up to one less hole than the number on the course for that round. If you miss the whole round it's a 999 and any round after that.
The online unofficial ratings calculations now match the official per round process. However, if the TD doesn't take the effort to properly enter the course layouts each group played each round, then the ratings may not be close. The ratings group doesn't check unofficial ratings so players have to check with the TD or figure out whether the courses were entered properly by looking at the numbers. Obviously, if everyone played the same layout each round, the numbers should be good.

The TD has to enter these layouts into the online setup or the unofficial ratings won't be right.

You may also want to adjust your pars for each layout as an added bonus but it won't affect the ratings.
Mad props to the volunteers of the St Louis Open. they sure showed their heart by pitching in.
Had a great time - the 33foot white circles were an unexpected surprise , especially for all 72 holes.
The food, the gathering, the beer, and no second-hand sm(t)oke this time around was sweet!
i love JB and EP (mix of short, long, technical) whereas the long hard endeavor at SP/CC (long, long, and then long with a FEW birdie opportunities) went south for me.
Congratulations to Nikko for kicking everyone's rump roast. Sure pays off to be a local, eh?
A small suggestion not as necessary as having the water breaks :o, when wondering the distance and location for each hole - i had to constantly look at the program book - had an epihany - thought if you guys could tape (electrical or duct) the distances not used on each sign - that would help reduce the confusion
I vote no final 9.
I am already marking the 3rd wknd of may '07 in my calendar and coming back if nothing cruel and unusual happens!
keep it up, and they will come.

I had the same thought about the distances and being confused, then I was playing a practice round at JB with Kid and asked what position the pin was in, He looked at me and says "the one the bolt is in" After that I noticed that every tee sign at all 4 courses had a hole to the left side of the placements and distances, and a bolt through the hole of the one that coresponds to where the pin is.
Probally the coolest tee signs without maps I have ever seen.
The courses are great, event was top shelf thanks a lot STL.

Sending the TD report is great but it won't do anything to post correct unofficial ratings online. In fact, sending the report right away will soon eliminate the unofficial ratings so players will have to wait for the official ratings until almost July.

Temporary ratings should now be correct according to the course layouts Mike Fritz posted above. I went in and put par in as:

Sioux Passage 63
Endicott 54
Jefferson Barracks 54
You guys can change that if you wish, but it won't affect the ratings.

All I have heard (so far) is good comments from players. I'm glad we got lots of positive feedback on our courses. Those Tee Signs are the only thing the Parks Dept. pay for. You really can go far when you have dedicated members as we do (220+ this year and counting!). See you next year!
