... Players from all around the area should get into this Event & play ( before it fills up ) ... Griffin Park will "sharpen up" a lotta shots in your game ... it's kinda like "a little shorter , dryer version of Mohawk" ... lotsa blind alleys and neat pin positions ...
.
... stay out of the Shule ... "stroke-eaters" ...

Most of them just came off a two day tournament last weeked and its hard for a lot of us to be gone from families two weekends in a row. At least thats my problem and I have to be in Memphis next weekend. So there is no way I could be gone agian this weekend.

How ever if this was a one day event I would be there. I could get away for the day but not for the whole weekend. Have you ever considerd making it two one day events. Then people could play one, either or both. ;)

Doc doesn't want me to be throwing overhands. I have a shoulder impingement that isn't allowing me to play Griffin. No need for a traditional golf game to go play against the thumber specials.

14 thumber holes x 4......56 Thumbers OUCH! :(

I'll be in Pawhuska installing a DISC GOLF course

Twoputt - you rather play a two day unsanctioned event and a one day sanctioned event than the opposite???

kevin - 14 thumber holes???

twoputtok
Apr 26 2007, 02:15 PM
The unsanctioned event ws a special circumstance. FurDog and I go all the way back to jr high. This was his first major event to be the sole TD at, I wouldn't/couldn't have missed for anything.

But being that it was a two day event it does limit how many days I can be gone from home for the next weekend. All I was saying that if Griffin had a one day option I would be able to play it on saturday or play a one day event on Sunday but I can't be gone both days.

I don't like playing any unsacntioned events and the only time I do is when I have a personal tie to the event or the TD. I have yet to play Griffin and would really like to but there is only so much disc time vs family time to go around. ;)

I have just started to become a fan of the one day events. No hotel needed, no hang over the next day, and a half way happy wife when I get home. With a dual event, each one day events, I have the choice to play one, both or either one but I'm not comitted to stay for the whole weekend. ;)

The one day events will be the next wave of tournaments happening around the country. Still with several A or B tier events to choose from that still offer the two day format. its all about choices.

Just run your own poll this weekend and see what the response would be to, two one day events.

Wow. I kind of like that idea. Maybe next year I should run Chandler as a one day sanctioned "C" tier on Saturday and a separate non-sanctioned one day tourney on Sunday....I guess then I would have to get a "BEER ON / BEER OFF" sign though to keep people from breaking the PDGA rules. Maybe I could get a co-TD to run the Saturday tourney so I could play in one for a change.

I know what your what saying. When a friend is running a tournament you gotta be there.

I also like on day tournaments, but every tournament is different. I feel that certain tournaments work great as one day tournaments and others work better as two. I just have to hope that we run a good enough event that the players come back each year and that it doesn't rain :).

As a family man myself, I know that time is valuable and that each player has to choose his/her tournaments carefully. We are offering large payouts, free CTPs, and a challenging course. Hope to see you guys this weekend or at the Pro/Am.

twoputtok
Apr 26 2007, 04:00 PM
Not true but we have become more selective about where we go play. Once you get used to Mohawk, Dovillio, Hunter, Haikey and McClure, you really want to play courses that are not pitch-n-putt. You want to play courses that are considered difficult and challenging. Plus the fact that we have numerous tournamentts up here in T-Town on those courses. It has gotten to the point that there is never a weekend with out conflict or a weekend that doesn't have a tournament some where. So every one has become more selective about the tournaments that they play. Players want good courses for their money.
Its just unfortunate that Griffin falls on the weekend after a local two day event. I haven't played it but I have heard good things about it. Plus Griffin being on this weekend more than likey prevented several OKC players from coming over to Chandler last weekend. We had very few from the city as compared to years past. I'm sure they weighed their decision on the fact that they could skip Chandler and play Griffin. Saves them money, travel time and cost of gas. Which is fine and the reason some players from T-Town won't be traveling to Griffin this weekend.

I would love to be able to play Griffin, its just a matter of balancing disc and family.

So don't think we're stuck up, we just have to make choices.
But we do have the best courses in the State. :D:D

whoever designed Griffin probably should have contacted Mitch Mac, Jack Wilson, Vasicek, or Brent'r on how to lay out a disc golf track. Someone with a little experience in putting together a course would have been very helpful to that place.

The Club designed the course before the split and all of those gentlemen had a chance to make their thoughts known if they would have took part in club meetings. With the exception of Mitch all those guys play the course all the time and like it. Now I dont know what makes you think that you can throw thumber on every hole but it might have been a awhile since youve played the course. It has grown in a lot and is looking nice, and I dont think you can throw a thumber on every hole and have a good score.

Agreed Mitch could have made it a better course and yes there are about five holes in the middle that go back and forth, but it is looking better a couple years into it then when it first came out.

danniestacey
Apr 26 2007, 07:01 PM
while those holes do go back and forth, each hole requires a different shot.

the land was allocated for a disc golf course since 1984. All it took was a little initiative. the invitation was sent, but not accepted. we may not all be master designers, but we have to start somewhere. 98% of the people that play the course love it. is there some tweaking that needs to be done? absolutely. we will get there. give us time. come and play the tournament kevin, i doubt you score what you expect.
